Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

The title literally translates to 'I have few friends.'

This is a new series from one of the more 'eccentric' light novel authors, Hirasaka Yomi. People who read his books in the past will know what I am talking about

Anyway I just thought this series (along with another series which I will get to later on) are some of the more entertaining series I have read during the past few months.

Of course, the pretty illustrations don't hurt either.
Kodaka Hasegawa is just trying to get through his school live, but one day he saw the cute but forever pissed off girl Yozora Mikaduki alone happily talking. “Can you see ghost?” “I am just talking to my friend here. My invisible friend!” (She is a goner…) Kodaka and Yozora started discussing how to make friends, and Yozora, with her excessive action powerness started a tragic club. Then, as if something went crazy, one by one other ‘regretful’ cute girl also joined the club. Together they played galgame, they went swimming, and they played stage acts. Can our hero, who got suckered into the mass, make good friends with other? The even-though-it-really-give-much-to-desired-for-but-still-very-entertaining tragic youth romance story has been born!
Sounds like Haruhi, doesn't it?

He lives!

When was this published? Honestly it sounds like something that was written to ride the Haruhi wave.

Seems like a supernatural version of Haruhi.

Two questions here: who is Hirasaka Yomi, and secondly, when did this series debut?

According to Amazon jp, the first volume was released on Aug 21, 2009, so this is a very new series.

As for riding the wave, I agree the summary does look similar. But the author is leading the story towards a different direction. In fact, I would say the series is imitating Seitokai no Ichizon rather than Suzumiya Haruhi. In which that the book is composed of very short chapters, with mostly the characters talking (and acting stupid) in the club room.

And there is no supernatural power whatsoever- it is a story about a group of people you don't want to hang out with getting together.

The author Hirasaka Yomi...I don't quite know how to describe him, or his books. Out of the list of novels on BT, I think Seitokai no Ichizon is closest in terms of style. They both have the same amount neta and moderately preverse jokes thrown in at the same time. His jokes are usually pretty sharp and witty, which is why I like his books, and he does know how to parodying sterotypes to the extreme.

I'm reading seitokai no ichizon now. And I didn't know he wrote it. :!: Guess I can expect a few shout outs here and there.

Nah, the authors are different; what I meant was that the style is similar. It is very probable that this author is imitating Seitokai no Ichizon's style.

May I be the first to comment on how surprising it is that after 6 years you have less than 100 posts...

I guess you never really noticed, I've been trying to fix that for the past few years. He has yet to bite though. :?

Please only suggest projects to get full project status IF there is a translator that intends to continue the series for a prolonged period of time...

If the translator only suggested it as a teaser, please leave it as a teaser...
