Maybe it's because he didn't want things to change? Since the purpose of the club is to make friends, maybe Kodaka thinks that having the club serve its purpose means that it will also come to an end. Can't really think of any other reason, unless he doesn't want to be friends with them, which is absurd, LOL.

I've only watched the first season so idk where Season 2 ends at...but...the anime is a pretty good adaption, it pretty much follows the novel exactly.
