My gosh, can't believe this recently ended (by recent I mean this year 2014).It felt like an eternity when I first watched the anime; but now not only have I watched it, I read the full Light Novel series all the way through. Usually a lot of stuff doesn't get completed with a proper ending (like the author said) let alone translated, so thank you very very much for doing this Js06. I hope you get to doing other awesome light novels afterwards.

Anyway, for my thoughts on the series as whole, it was quite enjoyable and fun to read even though it was confusing at times. Volumes 1-5 is what the anime covered and featured pretty much the same content except with some extra inside thoughts on the characters which is an advantage in any light novel comparison. The 6th volume was great in that it gave a fun and less serious tone to wound down on. A break from the deep concepts volume 5 touched up. Volume 7 got right back with CIMO 8 stuff and was still interesting with the story. Volume 8 was okay, however volume 9 I did not like at all. This was because it honestly felt like a rehash to volume 8! The villain was almost the same as the 8th volume's having almost the same motive but only altered slightly with different scenarios. It was like I was reading volume 8 over again and by that point, I was sick of it especially when v8 wasn't as good a read as v6 or v7. The 10th volume brought it back to a light story again (good!). Volume 11 was good, volume 12 was ugh (no ruining more story)...Then finally v13's first half gave a quite sweet semi-ending (how you dare-say main protagonist heaven) while the last half was so deep that it was difficult to follow (probably have to reread it multiple time). Still, overall I liked it and am glad to have read the whole way through.

Can someone please explain volume 13 for me and a bit of 12? So does everyone die, go to after life, Akuto gets some time with his haremm (only made up of 3 of the girls though) and they spend some time that way until he decides to make new stories to save the world? But what world is he even saving at this point? What was up with that stuff where he called the Sea King guy as a Ghost? From whose perception was that stuff about Junko being a Coworker and Fujiko being married from? What was that stuff about being saved? Where the hell did everyone go and what is Hiroshi doing?

I really could not follow any of that and it really pisses me off. The story was going so well up until volume 11 where everyone just starts to wig out and go crazy. It feels like the rest of the volumes were pointless because the ending just kind of goes off on it's own. But please if anyone really understood the ending please explain it more fully because I don't completely get it.

As far as I know:
1-more or less.
2-He gave up on saving the "material world" and instead saved its "people".
3-I don't know exactly what do you mean.
4-Hiroshi's (probably implying that Hiroshi is the author of the series). Junko is his editor.
5-Everyone went to a new world, supposedly free of stories, but Hiroshi, as the storyteller, couldn't follow.

I see. Again I'm really dissapointed with this ending. it completely destroys the cohesiveness of the story to try and go all philosophical on us. I know the idea of "Stories" and such were always a part of the series but it was always more of an idea not something quite so literal as "everyone literally being characters in a story written by gods" and the worst of it is Akuto takes everyone in as Data and goes with the Law to the new world..... WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HE PREVENTED THE COMPUTER GODS FROM DOING IN THE FIRST ARC!

Anyone remember that? "We can't destroy the world and just save the data because the lives of the people here would still have to end" and all that stuff? Isn't the MC going "Screw it I'll just do what I said I'd never do at the start" pretty lame? Plus doesn't that really make most of their struggle pointless since it all could have ended ages ago when the gods wanted it to?

Again it breaks up the cohesiveness of the story. It would have been better for Akuto to simply stop the war and have the Emperor candidates work together to rule in order to being peace or something like that. Something that feels like what Akuto would normally do.

Actually the way the computer gods would have done it is different and would have continued the cycle they were in but this ending has broken that cycle because even though there is a 'story teller' there is no 'true story' and there for will not have a 'normal end' like a story dose. In other words this time when the world is re-created there is not a 'fixed' story to be repeated.

It still went full evangelion at the end, even with the chair in the dark.

Been meaning to rant on the ending myself!!!   It went from an awesome, light-hearted harem comedy to total, melodramatic, philosophical evangelion at the end there. I kinda saw it coming in vol 5 or 6 (not really sure, it's been a while) when he starts taking down the machine gods, an obvious deus ex machina allusion that gave me the sneaking suspicion he was going to go for an overarching philosophical theme, but was hoping not. Not that I don't appreciate a deep metaphorical story, but frankly I read LN's to get away from stuff that makes me think too hard. As a parent and business owner, I get enough of that in my life. And considering this story didn't start off in any way, shape, or form like that, I found it to be a complete derailing of the original plot. Still though, massive kudos to the translators for ensuring we got to read the series to it's conclusion, as I know that I for one would have always had a hole in heart without it. :D

Given that the last volume took a long while for it to come out, I believe that the author may had run out of ideas. And he identified himself too much with Hiroshi (and he may have revealed the people he's based some characters on), which may have contributed to this "hey, I think this series got axed, so let's wrap some loose ends" kind of conclusion.

Still, this Gainax ending is nothing compared to the one of the manga Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Negai wo, which seems like pure revenge against the fact that it got axed.
