Spammer

First case of spamming. Check History, an IP went "rawr" and deleted it. Obviously to leave a marking for himself. How the hell do I get rid of this? Rollback is *NOT* working.

Yes, I did notice it, to be honest I think s/he was just testing, if it was real vandalism s/he, would not of reverted it back. Of course a verbal warning should be given, which has already been issued by you, so in my opinion this incident is over. However we need to be vigilant for the more serious vandalism, and I have tested the rollback function on a test page and it is working fine. However if there are any reported incidents of it not working I will have a look at it.

Person with three different IPs attempted to put viagra spammage on the Talk page:

http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/index ... on=history

Darkoneko was quick to fix it, but he could only do so through an edit. Rollback was not possible.

Is there really no way to like delete these logs and make it as if the spammer never ever came on the wiki? That would be great. Please bug TLG about it. ^^;

Like I said before, ALWAYS MAKE REGULAR BACKUPS to prepare for such vandals. So far, all the chapters that I've translated have backup copies on my computer.

I dunno if that's possible with the logs, but if it does get out of hand I can ban them.

I was thinking that if it escalates to the point where it's a huge issue, maybe taking down anonymous posting help solve the problem? Then again, anonymous posting is almost necessary as this is a wiki...

It is unfortunte case that anonymous contribution is more suitable for wiki's, but i do not think it has to be so drastic, at the moment it is fine as it is.

If things do get out of hand, i can always simply change the affected artical for registered contributors.

And at the worse case, a simple block is all that need.

At this moment, we had some minor incident from suspected bot spammers, that inserted links of a pornographic nature into certain articles, but luckily it was in forum/html format so it did not show up as in intended.

And one or two IP's have been noted for vandalism, and have been issued a warning.

Besides that, nothing major.

I suppose we are very very very off the "main route" of most users so we are lucky in some respects.

It's becoming quite clear that all these IPs that are randomly coming in to put crap on the wiki are probably coming from bots and the like. Needless to say, our current system with issuing Yellow cards is insufficient.

the warning system is fine, for minor incident.

But i think those that show bot spamming behaviour, such as publishing vast amount of links into the Wiki article should be noted and immediately blocked.

I think that is the most effective way of stopping them, the other way is to disable anonymous editing.

I would like for everyone to please p.m. the IP of any anonymous user who display such actions, so that i can check them myself, before I block them from the wiki.

N.B: May I remind anonymous user, if you find yourself unable to edit the Wiki the reason is because your temporary IP is one of those that are block.
You can still contribute by reseting your connection, or register on the wiki.

I do apologise for the inconvenience,
But limited measures must be taken to protect the wiki from malicious abuse.

Thank you.

There's a captcha plugin for mediawiki that might help. Haven't tried it, but it's been around since version 1.5, apparently.
