A place to introduce oneself?

Do you have a fully fleshed idea that you think Baka-Tsuki should adopt? Post it here.

He posted this two months ago and I didn't see him posting a message telling us clearly that we couldn't do it after that.

As it stands right now for SnS, anything regard Vol 1+2 is on hold. We'll leave the prologue up for now, but don't add any more. This is until Big Boss makes his decision on whether we go through with it or not. I'll send him a reminder PM sometime soon to refresh the topic for him. 8)

Suggestion:
If such a place is made, I would suggest creating a new sub-forum for this purpose. Instead of having a thread for people to say "hi" I propose letting every individual, new or old members, to be allowed to make 1 optional thread for themselves. This way, we can find out more about each individual, and can engage to each one more easily. Similarly, new members can find and chat with other new members and make friends more easily. They can also do "look-up" on the older members to find out more and may notice if they are friendly, nasty, or may find out if they can get along. Personal chats could also be allowed, meaning it is indeed a PERSONAL thread, which I believe would help create a bonding to B-T, especially since we have people who are so chat-able and talkative. A small area where most rules and regulations do not really exist, just to have fun. Of course, flaming, defaming and such are not allowed. WARM welcomes, not overly hot... What do everyone think about this?
i actually really like this suggestion

its like the myspace of the forums... would be like... the mythread (completely original i know....im just that good)

that way me and Assassin can continue role-playing and i could write out more of m adventures

Well, in reply to that, that is what I have in mind. At the same time, if you are looking for a particular someone to have a chat with, and does not mind if others read it, you can post in that person's thread if he has one. This way, people can join in as and when they want, and you can have little chats among yourselves and such.

First off- Assassin, there are actually a few tired old folks reading this forum. And some people who have never had good vision. I am actually old, tired, and not naturally endowed with sharp eyes. I'm assuming you set the font size in which you post to something smaller than normal. I'm in no position to tell you not to do that, but it would be much easier for me if you at least left it at the default. It was not easy for me to read your posts, and I can't imagine reading type that small on a regular basis. Sorry to complain ;) It's just very hard for me to read your posts. I don't mean to tell you to change your font settings, but I won't be reading your posts if you don't.

As for what Shadow is saying, I think I understand it, and I think it would be a good idea, if it were constrained so that it didn't cause undue trouble for the mods. Of course, I have very close to no history in this forum, so my ideas won't carry much weight, but I do seem to have signed myself up for a chapter of S+W (and I will finish at least that chapter, because I always finish things I sign up for, short of major catastrophes) and I would welcome a place where I could say "Actually, it turns out I have to move by the 1st, so I will be even more slow than I initially suggested. I'll try to get some work done soon, but..." I can tuck that into other threads (like this one, actually), but it would be nice to have a place where I could say that without worrying about whether or not it is on-topic (wwww), and where other people could go to find out what the hell was up with me. Also, I could post nude pictures of myself there. OK, that was a joke ;).

Of course giving a personal thread to every member of the forum, immediately on signup, might pose problems for the moderation staff. I can't pretend to know what those problems might be (*cough* nude pictures *cough*), but I am willing to posit their existence. I'd like a thread of my own, but I can't pretend to know what problems that might cause for you, so... I'll just say that, like Shadow, I think it would be nice.

Yes, I think people are catching on to my idea, roughly at least.

Well, about the moderating part, it should not be that much of a problem, as the idea is not to make a thread for everyone, but if someone wants their own thread, they can just create it. So lurkers and the ghostly members of the forums can continue being ghosts, without any posts. But people who really want to participate and join in the B-T community can make their own little space. Naturally, if the owner of the thread disappears, eventually the thread will die off, unless the souls of the owners continue to taunt the people to carry on chatting in their threads.

By putting them all together in a sub-forum, it would be easier to monitor and to find what you would like and such. Unless you intend to get information about members, you can just stay away. I think it would provide good interaction. Thus this proposal. Of course, it may have a lot of problems, so I would like to just bring this suggestion up for discussion.

That's the sort of anarchic thing I tend to like until the Cialis King shows up and introduces himself, repeatedly. Then again, I'm not sure any forum on this site is immune to that sort of abuse. One of the problems with off the shelf forum software is that it's hard to create truly custom users. Still, if you just take the simple route and let people have their own threads in a sub-forum... it's hard to see how that would differ from certain other sub-forums. Actually- it occurs to me that there might be a simple way of subverting the forum software to this end.

How many users must a group have? Can a group's sub-forum be set to visible for global forum members who are not part of the group? Why not just let people ask for a personal group that is world-visible? This would create (a ridiculous amount of) extra work for the mods at the outset, but it would allow them to control who had a personal thread, by making it a group. By imposing a few guidelines on who could ask for a personal group, the mods could make the number of legitimate requests quite small.

So yeah.. why not give all qualified users a group? And define qualified as you like? If there's a Yuki-fan group why can't there be a Duncan group (which could, by the way, coexist with a Duncan-fan group, not that I'm suggesting anything here- I just don't want to rule out the possibility.)

Making that high amount of groups would instead create more work and problems... Not really feasible... However, to make one single group may not be that bad. Instead of naming it after someone, like TGM, we can just make one called "Your friendly neighbourhood user" or something. Then anyone in this group can view and post in this user sub-forum group which can let people make friendly interactions.

About how it differs from other sub-forums... You mean by comparing it with forums other than B-T? Well, firstly I dont visit that many forums, so I do not know this very well. But my question is, why not? Do not seek change just for the change itself. If the idea can work out, there is no need to find a newer method just because it seems... new? Indeed, it is hard to create truly custom users. But that is not the aim. The idea is just for more interaction between people.

And indeed, you may have suggested a good point, to make guidelines for making personal threads. Sure, it sounds good. Well, next is to see if such an idea is agreed upon and may be implemented in the first place?
