In light of the recent spam

Do you have a fully fleshed idea that you think Baka-Tsuki should adopt? Post it here.

In light of the recent spam

In light of the recent spam

I'll like to suggest a new user group

Entry: able to post, but all tags don't work, and urls are censored or deleted.
Normal: Here users have to be approved manually

Or, there's the standard moderation until post count>something.

hmm....yes, but at the same time, this would give guests another hurdle, as they should inherently be lower than users.

I certainly don't disagree with this idea, but this would also require someone be here 24/7 to do this. (or at least get email notifications to approve someone.)

The idea of a new captcha/question system as TLG said is probably the simplest....otherwise someone has to work quite a bit. :?

Hmm, the idea is that the users aren't moderated, but the guest are. For most people, they don't require the url or the img tags for example. So, they still can discuss things in that sense even if they aren't added to the normal group.

But certainly an improved question system should work.

Edit: hobogunner suggested trusting the users after 15 posts or something

Forbidding them from posting links for 15 posts is frankly too harsh in my opinion. For 5 posts, maybe, but that's a big maybe. We're an open community after all, doing this would give the wrong signals.

Expanding the approval-system to include posts with links from users with less than X posts might be too much work for the Big Boss to implement and the mods to check, possibly.

So I think better measures to automatically keep bots out (captchas have been mentioned) are a better way.

I wonder if that 5-posts thing can be automatic.

Copy-pasting a PM I sent today:
A captcha would be a good solution to avoid invasions from bots.

But it doesn't work if a real person creates a lot of "normal" accounts. This bypasses the captcha and we would still have spam on the forum.

It would be better if we have a captcha system AND removing the right for members without a post to create a thread AND a Presentation sub-forum.

That way, we filter a lot of people:
- The captcha blocks the bots.
- The post rule blocks spam attacks made with a lot of new accounts.
- The Presentation sub-forum makes sure that everyone reads the forum rules at least once (thus, making people avoid asking about new updates).

Spam will still exist, but this method could make spamming harder.

It's still an idea, but because of the recent events, it might work.

Custom captcha question has been created for guests, so all guest are advised to be familiar with general Baka-Tsuki wiki and community.

Newly registered users have a 10 post limit under moderation queue, (10 post must be approved by Baka-Tsuki team) before being transferred with full standard forum access.

If anyone has a suggestion for some captcha questions, feel free to send them to me.

They should be in a simple format and relating to baka-tsuki and must be in English.

i.e. "Which Alternative language that Baka-Tsuki provided is not a naturally evolved, written or spoken? (Hint: it's not Korean)"
Answer: Esperanto

Something like that, it will be only present to guest, so please send me some good ones. :)

In light of possible vote spamming

Post by KuroiHikari »

Could guest voting be turned off across the whole forum?

It's not that good, but I hope we can make guest type some stuff like this :D
What do you not talk about in the forums?

thats a good one, but people might say not asking for translations... maybe if you say four letter word starting with R and ending with s?

How about: What does BT host.
Light Novel Translations
(hmm... looks a bit long)

maybe: what kind of Novel translations does BT primarily host?

That's a really good news! But i think their is a problem with the 10 post limit. Does it require a moderator to change the status?

I think the guest should vote, for example 1 LN between many novels that a translator is suggesting to work on. The only worry I have, it is if they create multiple guest to vote many times. Is it 1 IP address = 1 vote?
