Second that.
When I'm trying to load a chapter I get something about SSL handshake

Code: Select all

class javax.net.ssl.SSLExeption: SSL handshake aborted: ssl=0x5819d6f0: I/O error during system call? Connection reset by peer
Mobile browser also gives CONNECTION_RESET error with and without proxy (tried proxy because it's the only way I can access the site on PC, but that may be because our (Russian) goverment tries too hard at creating Internet-related laws and enforcing them "blidnly and without hesitation")

So the latest patch caused a variety of problems. The first and foremost seems to be a lack of connectivity and downloads. So I can't download novels from baka tsuki. I can however browse novels on a different site which links are hosted. But when I'm disconnected from the internet, i.e. On the bus or train through a tunnel, those novels are not saved to my phone, which is a problem.

Because for a while now, I've been going off saved novels. Problems have popped up and I'm unsure why, but thumbs (while reading) prior, weren't loading when I wasn't connected to the internet, when I was connected they had appeared. Offline didn't matter because I'd tap the broken thumb and the saved image on my phone would appear.

This was how it went until the last patch.

I have about 8 GB worth of images downloaded on my phone. Absolutely none of it's loading now, and images keeps saying it's failing to connect/retrying, failing and I'm left with a broken image icon, when without a doubt they're stored on my phone.

Hello, I've got an error since a while, I can't get any novels on the database, everytime I get the "HTTP error fetching URL".

I can connect to bakatsuki from my phone browser and I'm on Android Lollipop 5.1.1.
Also I tried to tick/untick the "Load App Keystore", and to download an older version, but it's still the same error.

You need to update your android version.

Well nevermind, it works again with the new update, it's weird since it happened with no reasons, but everything is fine now so thanks for your work.

I love this app and I have beem using it for a few years now. But I have been getting this message every time I try and update a light novel
"class java.io.IOException: Wrong version of key store."
I have updated the app and that didn't work so I uninstalled and reinstalled it twice to no avail.
My android version is 4.1.2
I can only think of one solution and that is to factory reset my phone, please help and thanks for the awesome app

For those who are using multiple android devices (like me) yet want to sync BakaReader files between them, it took me some time but I finally found a way to share files directly. If your devices supports direct wifi, you can use SuperBeam app to transfer files, even if your device isn't rooted. You can still use any wifi but speeds will be significantly slower as opposed to using direct wifi.

The free version has some limitations (can only send files, can't designate where to save received files, etc), but the full version (only $1.99 USD) can transfer full directories and will allow you to specify where to save incoming transfers to. If you just want to sync bookmarks & novels you've downloaded, you can just copy pages.db within com.erakk.lnreader/files/databases/ directory and the free version should be enough for that provided that you've pointed the default download directory to reader's directory. If you want to sync images (including thumbnails) however, you'll have to use the full version to sync the entire project folder in com.erakk.lnreader/files/ otherwise good luck in figuring out where the new or changed images are within that folder.

Granted, option to sync them to cloud storage (dropbox/google/etc because it would only sync the new/changed files) or to export few novels (fewer files needed to transfer) would be more convenient but this is something I'm willing to deal with until then.

Edit: On a separate topic, I noticed that there is unreasonably large amount (over 10k in my case) of thumb.php_f=* files within the project directory. I'm assuming that they are thumbnail information for each thumbnail generated within the app, but they remain even if novel pages containing thumbnails are removed. Same for the actual thumbnail images as they remain even if I've deleted the novel pages, so I think it would be the same case for actual full size images (although not confirmed yet). Does that mean over time the reader app could become bloated with redundant or unused files if I'm continuously adding and removing novels and their chapters?

There was an unexpected server migration and it may be possible that the app has some problems now.

Can a dev say if it's alright or not?

I'm not sure what I'm doing, since I don't really participate in this forums. Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I have a problem with the BakaReader EX app. I used it years ago to read Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu and it worked wonders. Now I have a new phone and redownloaded it to read Tenkyou no Alderamin, but I can't read the chapters. I think this happens when the chapter contains an image, because it worked well with the prologue which I don't think contains any images.
I'll post a picture of the error because it's too long for me to copy it.

My phone is a Moto G4 running Android 6.0.1. I'll appreciate any help you can give me, I tried going to the settings but I don't really understand a lot of the options... :(

Give this a shot:

For BakaReaderEx users, please disable Load App KeyStore in Settings -> Update and Notification as it use the old cert.

Testing your issue as I type with the S6 Active, Android 6.0.1, new device install. App version 1.1.44.

- Nothing loaded automatically, including searches. I had to manually refresh the main page. Once I did that, I could see and search titles.

- Attempting to load Densetsu gave me the same error you reported.

- From the side menu, I opened Updates, then refreshed the page. 151 novels found. Not sure if it did anything.

- Opened Maria-sama ga Miteru, met with same SSL error.

- Disabled Load App KeyStore, refreshed Updates.

- Reopened MariMite, overview text displayed, error with Bitmap Empty something (error popup display length should be increased). Opened Volume 1 Illustrations, met with same SSL error. Opened Prologue, same error.

- Closed the app.

- Reopened, double-checked settings to make sure Load App was still disabled. It was.

- Opened MariMite again - Bitmap Empty error, overview text visible. Opened Volume 1 Prologue, page loaded. Went back to Novel Illustrations, images loaded.

- Opened Densetsu and Tenkyou - Densetsu opened with Bitmap Empty, Tenkyou opened with its cover image. Chapter 1 and Prologue for each respectively opened.

Seems it should be fixed by disabling Load App KeyStore and restarting the app. If that fails, try reinstalling the app.
