*turns off the spigot*
Hope that tides everyone over for a while.
And so on. At least volume three chapter two clued us in that Vermillion is a northern country that's colder than Japan, which is something, even if that only says that Vermillion isn't Mediterranean (pretty much every non-Mediterranean European country is more north and probably colder and drier than Japan). And why did Stella learn Japanese from recordings of Japanese pop culture, as you'd expect of a common foreigner, without even a crash course from royal tutors specializing in diplomacy, as you'd expect of a princess interacting with another country?
Ikki is culturally "from the default culture" and Stella is "not from around here, ha ha, look at how she gets things wrong". Clearly the story isn't putting much substance into the culture divide beyond what's needed to drive the romantic tension. That's fine, for a romance story, but it won't much help the argument that we should use Japanese name ordering to accent the culture divide. I could argue that we should avoid drawing attention to that divide as much as possible to conceal how superficial it actually is.
Well, it'd be nice if we visit Vermillion at some point and discover it's not a generic European kingdom. I'm not expecting it, so far.

I didn't have time to get into this before, but I feel I have to point out that this statement is not wholly correct. Stella... doesn't actually come from a culture--at least not from what we've seen in the story so far. As far as culture goes, she is a Generic Foreigner, and her cultural traits are all based on stock characteristics of that archetype. If I asked you to describe the culture of the Vermillion Empire, what details would come to mind? It's a small European monarchy, among the most generic of foreign origins; how is it different from any other European monarchy? Stella gets Japanese proverbs comically wrong like a stock foreigner; what proverbs from Vermillion does she ever think of? She uses the Imperial Arts which seem to be particular to Vermillion; how is that style different from Generic European Longsword? She expresses some interest in the food available in Japan; what Vermillion cuisine does she feel homesick for?deathmailrock wrote:but in this story specifically, since the 2 main characters are from 2 different cultures,

Re: Rakudai Kishi no Chivalry
ok gonna drop this bomb here.
I might pick tjis up again from v4 but that's after june/July.
also I need someone to do something for me which I can't demand here as asking for raw ocr'ed text is against the rules.....maybe. but since I didn't say it out loud it's ok and I hope noone is stupid enough to link anything related to raws here,
Well..later..I will be KIA'ed for a month or more.

Hi Cat!
Good to hear that you'll take a look at volume 4.
PS: No no, I'm not ignoring you. The PM system just isn't working for me at the moment. Yes, I'll probably finish volume 3 by July. That's the plan, anyway.

I'm supposed to clean the images: 1 done, 1 halfway and 1 untouched.
(I'm posting because all the TL'ers and editors are posting and I wanna be part of the group)
PS: Cat, the image links in the OP are broken.
