Thanks, it's a lot nicer than my old place - and now that I've got internet connectivity it's even better.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, thanks for all the work done over the years translating this series, I haven't read any of your work yet but I am hoping to read through this series, I have watched all four of the Anime Series. My only issue, is that some volumes are not translated and some are, I am assuming some of these volumes are side stories and such, But i am slightly concerned that Volumes 7-14 are not translated, and a few others. As I said, I have watched the anime series, but I would like to read the actual light novel and the story as the author intended it, and I'm hoping that there is more to the story than what is shown by the end of the 4th season. But pretty much I don't want to read it if the main story isn't completed, as that will completely ruin the flow for me. I'm not asking for anybody or a group of people to translate if there are any missing volumes, it will just be disappointing, but I will probably just not read it then.

Thanks for any responses I get!

Finally, I found my way here.
enn_are wrote:Everything's fine - I've recently moved apartment and it's taking ages to get my internet connection hooked up. The good news is I've continued translating and have almost finished the next two full chapters. The bad news is my internet still doesn't work so I can't put them up yet - I'm posting this from my parent's place.
Hi enn_are, I have been wanting to say thanks to you (and all Marimite translators) for a long long time. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Thanks for your hard work even during moving. ;) I have just moved (like cross country) myself, and it's been quite tough with a lot of things. (And no family/friends on this side of the country)

Marimite novels are wonderfully written, and they are not only being translated, but being beautifully translated. (I have been subjected enough to badly (and commercially) translated novels in my native language to know the differences.)

Reading "Holding a Parasol" has helped me quite a bit going through time when things do not go as well as you have hoped.
Left, right, left, right.
If she continued walking like that, she'd soon be home.
Left, right, left, right.
In the same manner, tomorrow would surely come too.
So I'm grateful. :)

By the way, after you are done with "Holding a Parasol" and still feel like translating, please consider "Cherry Blossom", since there are few volumes that focus on the white rose sisters. (Sorry, just had to put it out there; since I love Noriko.)

ps. Not sure if I'm blind, but I don't see this thread on the main Marimite page, I was on the verge of figuring out how that Discussion tab work. Perhaps if we can put this link somewhere here, more people would come to discuss.

Hi Airen,

Sorry for taking so long to reply - I've been away visiting family for Christmas. Thank-you for your compliments, when I read the novels in Japanese I'm often struck by how beautifully constructed certain passages are, and I try to capture this as best I can.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through some tough times, hopefully things pick up for you soon :) Moving's never easy, although in my case I didn't really move all that far.

Good idea about linking to the forum thread, that should make it easier for others to find. I'll add that now.

Hello!

I found this discussion board through the forums and finally got a chance to thank all the people involved in translating this series to English. Thank you for allowing me all the joy I've experienced while reading this series, it is really beautifully translated and as a result the characters feel so real and identifiable :) The anime series really doesn't do that part justice as compared to what was written in the novels.

Once again, thank you all so much!

Best regards and have a great year ahead!

Once again, thanks to enn_are for the translation of volume 11.
I have just ended reading volume 10, so it's just perfect :)
Any idea for the future?

It's amazing to look back on the updates of this series and see all the hard work put into it for almost 5 years time. It's paid off; if I counted right, there's only 9 1/2 more main-story volumes left to translate now. Oh and thanks for translating 27 for me before moving on to 10, 11, etc. I gotta find time to read it soon :).

Once all volumes are translated though, I plan to enjoy this series again by just going to town and reading it all consecutively. It's been quite a while since I've seen the series, and I think experiencing it through the light novels will be a lot more insightful/enjoyable because the anime can't cover all side-stories and such.

I look forward to the day this is complete, and hope it will be completed at some point. Thanks enn_are, you're doing great work. And even if, for whatever reason, you can't continue translating, such a fact won't diminish the respect I have for you and others who've worked on this series. Thank you very much *bows* I hope whatever force in the universe that rewards people for awesome acts of service will bless you for your hard work.

Thanks everyone for your comments. One of my favorite parts from volume 11 was the interaction between Yumi and Kashiwagi - there seems to be a bit more going on there than the anime shows.

When I first started translating this series, I never imagined that I'd get as far as I have. I'm still not really expecting to see it finished - to me even the idea that it would be finished seems somewhat unrealistic - but I'll keep forging ahead for as long as I have the enthusiasm, the time and the ability.

I chose volume 7 partially because it meant I could delay making a decision about volume 12. Harunako's done a lot of work on volume 12 (roughly 1/4 of the story) that I don't want to throw away, but I also don't want the final result to be jumping back and forth between Harunako's translation and mine, since that would seem to be quite jarring. The approach I'm leaning towards (if/when I get up to it) is to edit Harunako's translation into my style (this should be much quicker than redoing the translation), then continue on. If anyone has an opinion or better idea, please voice it.

Most of the interactions between Yumi and Kashiwagi are interesting and funny. In the first volume it was presented in such a bad light (i kinda think that there was a change of heart on the character by Konno later), but in the rest of the story the character and the dialogues with the cast show that is rather capable and a funny 'adversary' to the girls (and Yuki).
The story on volume 12 has a lot of points of contact with the previous and has some elements of 'continuation', so personally i think that the idea of uniformity with 10/11 is good. And because the work already done is significant, i think editing is ok.
Thanks again for the hard work. I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for continuing on with the translation!!! I absolutely loved Volumes 10 and 11. The ending of Volume 8 was a nice surprise - something we never got to see in the anime (the "Rose Ceremony" between Sei and Shimako).

I've read Volumes 10 and 11 twice now and I love them. So beautiful.

I also quite enjoyed "Answer" from the Premium Book.

I know you were asking for suggestions on Volume 12. The approach you outlined seems very reasonable (editing rather than translating). I personally would like to see more of the Yumi/Touko relationship translated - I think there are about 4 books - 23/24/25/26 - so that would be my request. But, truthfully, they're all so beautiful that I know I'll enjoy anything you decide to translate.

Thank you again!

Hi Sucasa,

I think I'm going to translate the books roughly in order from here on, so it's going to be a while until I get to Volumes 23-26. On the plus side, Touko makes her debut next volume, so I'm sure that will be interesting :)
