Phew, finally finished the preview translations... I think my favorite line was "If I were to add one more thing, the man of Zhcted with a barren wilderness on his head admires you too much". Such a way to refer to bald Rurick, lol.

Loving the light novel and I can't wait for the next one.

Spoiler! :
Especially since Elizavetta Fomina kinda nearly broke down in tears when urz just disappeared and she is determined to find him. She really dependant on him and how she is afraid that he might get his memory back as she doesn't want to lose the urz she knows. (To me she appears more attached to tiger than Ellen). Kinda don't want him to get his memory back now as I feel sorry for her.

Also about the new Vanadis that might get selected it can be anyone doesn't need to be from Zhcted as Ellen was originally a mercenary along side lim/rim believed to be from another land. So with that in mind anyone could be the next Vanadis so could be tieta (doubt it) I think it might be the queen of brune only reason is because she kinda took a back seat after the civil war and have not seen much of her and another civil war appears to be coming into brune . However and I could be wrong here didn't it mention when we hear about how Ellen got her sword that it told her to report to the palace and guided her there. What if the next Vanadis is told to report to tiger since we know the dragon tools seem to respond and communicate with tiger at times

Also in the future I can see Valentina Glinka Estes losing her dragon tool as she will no longer be deemed worthy of it. Now from what I understand she wants to become queen the leader the big boss and not report to the current king yet she still hasn't lost her tool. However If she were to attack tiger (directly) I think her tool will disappear and deem her unworthy due to the following reasons

1. the dragon tools at the moment don't communicate with the king (at least not mention) they only communicate with there owner and tiger so they may not see the king as there king any more.
2.the lore says the king was an incarnation of a black dragon his black bow has displayed a black dragon image when he shot it and when he fought the long bow leader the leader thought he saw a black dragon wrap it's wings around tiger. so he could be the king they want
3. none of the Vanadis at the moment seem to respect the king they just follow unlike tiger who some have mention do you want to become king

4. None of the Vanadis have directly attacked him(yet) even Ellen didn't attack him she just deflected his arrow.

What's the deal with volumes 1-5 being in "PREVIEW" status? Are they fully translated in English? Or are they partially translated?

At the top of every chapter it says "Be warned that the degree of translation error may be higher than usual due to the translation method employed." In this case it is because all those chapters were machine translated, which has a much lower degree of accuracy than most human translators.

Are the people who translated volumes 6-9 planning to "re"translate volumes 1-5 more properly (with Jp-Eng translator, editor, etc.)? If not, are volumes 1-5 translated well enough to at least understand what is going on or should I skip it?
asking because I'm planning to watch the anime

Is it possible to replace "preview" with "machine translated on the Madan no Ou to Vanadis project page?

1. Don't hold your breath for it; I'm not 100% on this, but I think the translator has effectively said they're not (they're more interested in their other projects than retranslating those). If you want to know what happens in terms of overall plot, you can skim or read it, just don't expect the sentences to always have the correct nuance or details.

2. Haha, that would be logic, and we don't have any of that around here. (That proposal was already brought up, but it's currently on hold/waiting.)

No, because the Baka-Tsuki administration wants to actively deceive readers into reading crap. God forbid - people might not read MTLs if they knew about the downsides. Though as far as I've heard this one is the best MTL around, it's only downhill from there. Well, implying readers can be deceived, sad reality is that a good portion wouldn't be able to tell a Google Translate script apart from Shakespeare - they just suck that hard in English and are of the category "MOAR CONTANT". Long story short: readers get what they deserve.

I used to use Altavista's Babelfish back in the '90s, you have no idea how unreadable machine translations can be if you're complaining about Google Translate.

If you care THAT much; go learn Japanese, read it in its native language and leave us alone.
