I am still alive... sort of

Post by shiratoriryuuko »

Yea, after the last stint with doing the author's notes and going off doing nothing, I better come back given that season 2 of Suzumiya Haruhi is likely to happen...

You'd better! **shakes fist!**

Nice to know that there's something nice on the horizon after 'disappearance'

Godspeed, man, Godspeed!

Shira, here're a few tips I've obtained while translating, concerning how the characters address each other:

1. Kyon calls:
Haruhi - "Haruhi"
Mikuru - "Asahina-san"
Yuki - "Nagato"
Koizumi - "Koizumi"
Tsuruya - "Tsuruya-san"

2. Haruhi:
Kyon - "Kyon"
Mikuru - "Mikuru-chan"
Yuki - "Yuki"
Koizumi - "Koizumi-kun"
Tsuruya - "Tsuruya-san"

3. Mikuru:
Kyon - "Kyon-kun"
Haruhi - "Suzumiya-san"
Yuki - "Nagato-san"
Koizumi - "Koizumi-kun"
Tsuruya - "Tsuruya-san"

4. Yuki
Kyon - (never heard calling Kyon by his name, until later on......)
Haruhi - "Suzumiya Haruhi"
Mikuru - "Asahina Mikuru"
Koizumi - "Koizumi Itsuki"
Tsuruya - (never heard her addressing Tsuruya-san)

5. Koizumi
Kyon - (I don't think I've seen him addressed Kyon properly as well)
Haruhi - "Suzumiya-san"
Mikuru - "Asahina-san"
Yuki - "Nagato-san"
Tsuruya - "Tsuruya-san"

6. Tsuruya
Kyon - "Kyon-kun"
Haruhi - "Haru-nyan"
Mikuru - "Mikuru"
Yuki - "Nagato-chi"? "Yuki-chi"? (I have to watch the anime to confirm again)
Koizumi - "Koizumi-kun"

You can't get wrong with these. :D

Awww, the only one I was interested in. I was thinking I never heard Yuki say Kyon's name, maybe she wants to use his real name and not the nickname everyone else uses. As for Koizumi never saying Kyon's name, I never noticed.

Also, what are "chi" and "nyan"? A different form of "chan"? I've heard Tsuruya has a weird way of talking.

"-chi" is a cute variant of "-chin", which in turn is a cute variant of "-chan". For example Tina addresses Taeko as "Tae-chin" (Ai Yori Aoshi).

Other cute variants of "-chan" are "-tan", "-chama", and "-tama", though these are used mostly by kids as far as I know, especially the last two.

Well, since "Imouto" is the only person without a proper name (Kyon, while not a real name, is still a name). I would prefer to use the direct translation of "Little Sis" instead.

It's just pronounced "kun", the small "tsu" at the end is not pronounced. It serves as a silent elongation of the sound near the end. Something like "kun~".
