Which explains why the character designs of the different manga adaptaions are drastically different.
As the canon, you still have the cover illustration on the published novel anyway as well as a few maps inside. But as far as I can see the mangakas doesn't really pay much attention to the illustrator's character designs.
It is even more chaotic in the doujin territory and there is something like this:

BTW, I want to try something with the translation of this project, since it's mostly short sentences.
1) Machine-translate from Chinese.
2) Word-separator and translator from Japanese.
3) Check with the Chinese.
4) Replace the words in order.
5) Match with Chinese
It would he like a semi-machine translation with the Preview tag still.

If you are fluent in Chinese and the text is in short sentences, wouldn't it take less hassle to simply translate it? You would be spending your time fixing a machine translation involving rearranging or even replacing a substantial amount of stuff, while still have to come up with proper translations for the specific terms.
Probably, but I am currently testing some ways. Though I doubt that I'll put up these translations, I want to understand how machines cut their sentences. Also, I'm constantly wondering if I have put up the right term, since I'm not really text-to-text with translations.

I have the first volume (or book since we're using volumes in reference to the chapters) of Maoyuu in Chinese (it was released in HK recently) and I would also like to give a try at translating it.
The first book has 11 volumes, I'm not sure how long it would be before the 2nd and 3rd books come out in HK though.
How should i go about doing this? (i've posted the novel's intro to the wiki site, am i allowed to do that? T.T)
Pretty interesting series, quite special with the economic and diplomatic lessons integrated in the story. It's a good thing that someone is interested in it.
