No, it's just to look good. (Personally I think red and blue looks good together)

If the background had a mixture of light and dark colors, then the glow helps by providing contrast to make the text stand out.

In this case, since the image is relatively light in color, the black text already stands out well, so the glow is just decoration.

White looks best so far, at least to me.

On a color wheel, purple/magenta would be opposite to yellow.
But that would be similar to the first red one.

White still looks the best for now.
