Well we used to have problems with spambots registering on the forum eveyday that I had to clear the list on a daily basis, the occasonal one also manage to post as well. But the situation improved after forum update. After that we had a few minor occurances with guest posting from spambots. This was ramped down with increasing captcha level and setting guest post/topics to be authorised by staff.Krikit wrote:oh yeah...we can always go back to the old password, just have to change it twice...haha...just a minor inconvenience, which saves us from spammers!
Also, what happens to those 57 spam links, I've never seen them before. But I know when I had my own forum they came like everyday. Is this really a daily problem here?
You won't see topic/post that require authorisation until a staff member approves it, since we have a large numbers of moderator-citizens many of these spambot post are deleted quickly. Hence you won't know if we get hit by a successful spambot. Even now I have to check logs to see how many guest post we have deleted sice we are too efficient. But the good news that thist year we get about an average of 2.6 guest spam per week.
The registered spambot is the first I've seen since....oooh....2006-2007ish? Somewhere about that.
Haven't had to ban any I.p. since then let alone any users.
