Stalled projects

I hate it when a new project gets started because the anime airs with a lot of hype, then the TL loses interest and no one updates it. As in the forums, project won't be marked 'dropped' until after a period of 3-6 months- there aren't clear guidelines on this...

heh the anime I heard accurately depicts and explains all the jokes in the novels, or so I heard. I watched it myself, but I have yet to read the novels. From reading the novel translations, however it seems to be almost the same. I can not say I would ever want to translate these novels way too hard for me to get the jokes across, and then it loses all its fun. I wish someone translate Koyomi Vamp and the two fire sister's stories.

Yo, for "Kabukimonogatari / 傾物語" I was researching with a friend and his JP coworker about the kanji in this title and it has us completely stumped. Is there some kind of weird reading of 傾 or 傾物 that is supposed to have some relevance to kabuki? It seems so completely weird and out of place that we're wondering if it's actually a mistake somehow (incorrect first kanji or perhaps incorrect translation, as unlikely as either are). Anyone able to shed some light on this?

I'm not 100% sure but the word kabuki is believed to derive from the verb kabuku, meaning "to lean", and the kanji 傾 also means more or less "to lean/to incline/to tend".

I am under strong impression that Araragi-kun is not going to hold a special celebration or some formal memorial service to mark that day, but treat is as an important day in his life, with a meaning special to him first of all, a milestone if you will... "A day to remember" seems to be a more natural way of saying it than the probably more correctly translated "commemoration". Ideas? Please feel free to redirect me to a more proper place to ask this question.

Okay I think this is something everyone who roams around here need to discuss. Should or should we not delete chapter 18? The chapter has been here for a while now and I don't know how many people have read it but I think everyone who has would agree that there is something wrong. It doesn't take someone who has read the original to realize that it is really poorly written with really bad grammar and sentence structure. I mean my translations weren't perfect either but I literally don't understand what is going on in chapter 18. Okay I am personally very well aware of the fact that people tend to refer to the whole series as "Bakemonogatari" but if we think closely that's not really correct. Bakemonogatari is only the first two books and all the others use different names. The Japanese wiki and I believe even the author refer to it as the "Monogatari" series. Usually I can easily see Senjougahara at school, but seldom do I have time to meet her on Sundays. But shockingly, we met up that day.

Having said that, it’s just that she got a free coupon from her father for a cake buffet that is for limited use on Sunday and she suddenly wanted to use it. It’s a dessert café that is too expensive for civilians, so in order for the shop to maintain its style, it usually does not take up such pirate-like behaviour as buffets, but it seemed to be the shop’s anniversary that day.

Speaking of freely eating cakes, when I am standing in front of a counter full of donuts, I can’t promise that Shinobu won't appear from my shadow. Of course, she has never come out in front of Senjougahara, and she has also never been moved by anything other than the donuts from Mr. Donuts (she basically doesn’t eat human food), so I can tentatively relax.

If there was any concern, it would be the store’s exterior. Boys seem to need a certain degree of courage in order to go in, which made me so angry I stiffened, but I needed to tolerate it.

Senjougahara’s mockery doesn’t bother me anymore, and the cakes themselves are rich and varied; also the taste is by far the best I have ever eaten, so I don't care about anything else.

Hmm, delicious.

Even bigger things are trivial in front of all this food. The fact that humans are animals dominated by food — I suddenly felt I experienced that truth deeply.

No, it’s the same even for vampires.

"Senjougahara. Do you get fat?" I said.

Taking a break, I inadvertently said it.

Although I haven’t watched any comedy shows recently, I could still describe the image in the next instant, like throwing a party, a fancy cake flew towards my face.

I don’t know if it’s for the guests' convenience in eating it or if it was just designed that way, but this piece of fancy cake was much smaller than imagined, it could be said that it was mini-sized, so very luckily, my face and clothes were not dirtied: the cake was directly enveloped by my mouth.

It was a very direct method of eating.

"Huh? You said something that you shouldn’t have said? Araragi-kun."

Senjougahara’s eyes opened very wide.

Her deadpan look was very frightening.

"Girls don’t get fat."

"Oh ... ... is that so?"

"Yes. Girls only grow."

Senjougahara placed the fork in her hand and started exaggeratingly eating sections of the cake one after another.

... ... Something worth mentioning, if it were the Senjougahara from some time ago, then certainly, instead of throwing cake from the beginning, she would have mercilessly attacked me by directly throwing the fork at me. Realizing this point, I felt that she has calmed a lot from before.

But certainly I can’t say that she has become very gentle.

"Speaking to the end, Araragi-kun, talking about things like weight in front of a girl, those things are just too sensitive."

Actually that is right.

But seeing Senjougahara eating so happily, I was shocked even as I was drinking black tea, so I wanted to pull her down a notch.

On this steel-skin face, or rather steel-shell face, I wanted to reveal a little flaw in that face.
