High School DxD
"Just like that I got the thing from Zenovia that would make me a newly made live coal. " -This line seems very awkward. I changed live coal to "man" , but it still doesn't feel right. In this sentence is Ise worried that the other girls might burn him into charcoal if does make children with Zenovia or something along those lines? (Vol 4, life 1) -Hiro Hayase 15:02, 26 February 2012 (CST)

Hm, a better statement would be "Like this I got elements from Zenovia that created further friction."
It's extremely vague as to what the elements mean.
The next line of perversion is a bit vague as well if you noticed

EDIT:
Scratch the second line, I thought of the exact translation while pondering, screw Jap grammar: "Even if I say so myself, I was feeling my perverted spirit when I couldn't refuse her."
-Akuma

But remember the narrative is in past tense, especially when Ise's narrating. I'm not sure if its the same for Japanese, but for English it is. -Hiro Hayase 19:44, 26 February 2012 (CST)

Yep, should be I felt my perverted side. Though the one present there works too "my perverted spirit couldn't refuse her" or something like that. What matters is that the message is conveyed which is done perfectly.

Paper mache?
In Volume 4 life 2 of Highschool DxD it says that Issei used paper mache to make a statue of Rias. Are you sure it's paper mache? It mention that Issei molded the statue using his hands and I think that can only be done using either clay or plasticine. Can anyone confirm this? - Cataccountant

Yep, that's the exact translation. 紙粘土 which literally means paper clay, I googled the term and paper mache was what I found. -Akuma

Why not just use "paper clay" directly?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_clay

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_mache

"Papier-mâché paste is the substance that holds the paper together.
The paper is cut or torn into strips, and soaked in the paste until saturated.
The saturated pieces are then placed onto the surface and allowed to dry slowly"
Comparing the two, the paper mache process seems to be too involved for a casual classroom activity.

I have used PVc clay and already given my reasons as well. PVC clay is more widely known. It is used to make figurines already, an conposition of paper clay is highly variable. If you want you can change it, do as you wish. --Akuma 20:55, 8 March 2012 (CST)
The line "When the leader of fallen angel invaded" in vol04 life02; isn't Kokabiel one of the echelons of the faction n not the leader but Azazel? That's why 'removed that 'leader' thing. --Chancs 23:17, 3 March 2012 (CST)

It's fine now. I changed it to "When one of the leaders of the fallen angels invaded" which is closer to the actual meaning and grammatically correct. Kokabiel is one of the fallen angels leaders, Azazel is also one of them. The other fallen angel leaders consider him as the commander like what Michael is to the angels. -Hiro Hayase 23:38, 3 March 2012 (CST)
Hey Akuma, I should have sent a PM in the forums about my editing request. I just wanted a clarification on this phrase "
arrhowThe ead was of gold make, if it pierced his chest he would surely be killed by an arrow"Since this is the first time I'm editing, I'm reluctant to make any changes without consulting someone as I don't want to leave a bad impression. However, from looking at this sentence I would like to change it to "The arrowhead was made of gold" rather than "was of gold make" which doesn't make sense. Kirisa (talk) 02:36, 11 August 2012 (CDT)

I remember actually hesitating when I read that phrase since I wasn't too sure about it. I did consider "The arrowhead was made of gold" but slight problem with that is that gold is an extremely malleable and rare metal so it wouldn't make sense from a practical or economic standpoint to use gold in arrows. I would assume that iron, bronze and copper would be more frequently used or even just sharpened wood/animal bone. An alternate interpretation is that gold refers to golden age rather to arrow and thus it refers to time. Gold could then be referring to The Momoyama Period in Japan—from 1568 to 1615—was one of the most dynamic and energetic eras in the country's history or it might even refer to kyoto or some other place although you would need to see kanji to tell. Misc 13:23, 11 August 2012‎

"the arrow head was of gold make" it actually makes sense the style of
is slightly old english style very formal at that. though im not entirely 100% sure. though i could confirm that this really make sense.

I think I made a mistake here, the exact words are: 金属製. Which I broke up and made as "Gold make". However, in fact this is a general term referring to things made of metal. Reflecting changes, thanks for bring this up. --Akuma (talk) 21:14, 11 August 2012 (CDT)
I am unsure whether I understand the last sentence but if you mean that I should upload the book unto my computer and use a program to do the bulk of the translation, aside from the fact that I believe uploading copyrighted material is illegal, I do not have the technological capacity to do that, so I'm afraid that my process will remain read phrase, doublecheck words I'm unsure of, translate into english and then type my rough translation(and it is rough, the complexity of the task really eats away at my punctuation skills and for speed's sake I often can't spend the time to get a sentence just right, so if you want to help please edit). The process is slow but, with practice I will get faster. -Sashiko
Don't worry too much about punctuation. We can cover that for you based on the context of the text, as long as we can tell where the sentences start and end. Good job with chapter 3 of Presidential election and the queen. I didn't expect that development, but I like where it's heading. 1. Are you working on the light novels or the web novels? What's the difference?

I'm working from the Chinese translations of the light novels. The web novels were published before the light novels, but the light novels contain more content in terms of character development and extra scenes. In addition, some lines in the web novels were toned down in the light novels. (And there's more fanservice in the light novels.)

2. When are you going to translate the Afterwords or The Late Great Favorite?

Uh, probably some far distant time in the future. (read: never) The Afterwords and the Late Great Favorite bear no impact on the story itself. They are merely the author's thoughts as each novel comes to a close. Hence why their priority is very, very low.

3. Hey, dude, the chapters are out of order! Why did you translate Chapter Y before Chapter X?

Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

4. So when's your next chapter coming out?

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me this, I would be able to do this for a living. Click on the User Page tab on the top left corner and you will find my progression on the latest chapter as well as a rough estimate on when the chapter will be complete. And, no, it has been scientifically proven that asking me to work faster/harder does not improve translation speed. I am working off of PST in California, so do take that into account when looking for the new chapter on my update days.

5. Are you going to translate all the volumes?

Until otherwise stated, yes. Volume 5 may get delayed though, since it is a collection of side stories rather than advancing the main plot. We'll see what happens after the Nine Schools Competition.

6. I got the chapter summaries from somewhere else, may I post them in the forums?

Please don't. Last I heard, the chapter summaries flying everywhere absolutely killed all motivation for the translators. So...... Please don't. Please.
I don't have the power to actually grant that, since I am not the project leader for MKnR, larenthian is. If you are interested in joining the project, drop by the Feedback Thread to let larenthian and Seitsuki know. Following that, inscribe your name onto the Registration page next to which chapter you would like to work on. Thanks a lot for 5th chapter. And i also got a question, on the Mahouka page on facebook there's something called Double Act 7 which is set in the second year, can you tell something more about it and does it come as a novel or in a magazine. Again thank's a lot for 5th chapter. --Silver Horn (talk) 04:28, 16 January 2013 (CST)

Double 7 is in Dengeki Bunko or whatever that magazine is. So far, the first 2 segments (I guess chapters 0-6) have been released, and it is 2nd year as you say. It's an unedited portion and "spoiler free," so it's more akin to the web novels. It would take place after Web Arc 6, of course. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 05:15, 16 January 2013 (CST)
Awesome job Dreyakis, its getting exciting with each chapter release. however, in my personal opinion, i'm not that hyped about the story spanning over two volumes. Indeed. It's difficult not to appreciate just how fast and capable both Drey and zzhk are. Even given a masterful command of both English and Chinese, there's a lot of cross-referencing that has to happen when you're not translating straight from the Japanese text. Drey as ardent follower of your translation of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, your ETAs keep me and i most certainly think others as well from checking Baka-Tsuki every minute or hour, so please do reconsider your decision. P.S i have said this before about you but "all hail the translating king"--1fortis1 (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2013 (CST)
I can imagine that putting in a ETA puts pressure on yourself, so I think getting rid of it is a good idea. But my opinion matters not, do whatever you want, that and thx for everything you've done so far. --Lenn 11:24, 4 February 2013 (CST)

I'd have to say no matter what Drey chooses to do, he'll be somewhat screwed over. If he puts an ETA, fewer people will probably harass him about when he'll be finished, but if he's "late" for this "deadline," little pissants will show up again; however, if he decides to keep the ETA omitted, he'll probably just have all the other little peons messaging him or posting on this user talk about when the next chapter will be finished. As for the pressure, good god, I think the only pressure an ETA should put on him is not the time constraint but the inevitable knowledge that someone's going to bother him, whether it's there or not. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 14:03, 4 February 2013 (CST)
Well, I'm glad he put the note up because frankly I've been worried that something bad happened to him. Hopefully, whatever was making him miss his personal deadlines is pleasant or only mildly uncomfortable. So Drey if you are sick or something like that I hope you feel better soon-Sashiko
The fact that they're both efficient and consistent is just staggering. <br />

Questions and Answers

Please.

7. I want to join the project, where do I sign up?

I don't have the power to actually grant that, since I am not the project leader for MKnR, larenthian is. If you are interested in joining the project, drop by the Feedback Thread to let larenthian and Seitsuki know. Following that, inscribe your name onto the Registration page next to which chapter you would like to work on. I will not provide RAWs, so do not ask.

8. I have more questions that you haven't answered here!

In the previous arcs i felt the transition to the next volume didn't go over so well, hell i'm still lamenting about the enrollment arc. that being said the author did improve with the nine-schools arc. maybe the author will surprise us this time. great story anyways. share your thoughts. Keisanichi (talk)

I had the feeling that he took his time with this chapter. But that is kinda good, because sometimes i get the bad feeling that he works to much for us and even then he is still so fast that you can by no means complain (still one of the fastest translators I seen till now) (not that we have a right to complain anyway).

hey just 1 question please dont feel offended , just wondering, that are you going to fully translate the whole series in future as per now ?
thanks (kakaroet)
^Please don't start harassing him. He has no obligation to translate and has been doing a phenomenal job. Most people don't even post estimates on when they'll finish but he does to help us. We all want to read the chapter and we all are probably thinking the same as you but asking, putting pressure on, or otherwise demanding anything out of him doesn't help the process (it may even act as a demotivate). over 200 pages in 4 days, who the heck is able to translate and type over 200 pages of text in 4 days? A god, that's who. Has it been made clear how awesome you are, Dreyakis? --PrairieEagle (talk)

Just so you know, it wasn't 200 pages in 4 days (well, it's possible he did, but that's besides the point). The ###/### is the page he is currently on compared to the page the chapter ends. Still, his pace is quite quick, and yes, he clearly is quite awesome. --EnigmaticAxiom (talk) 14:14 22, January 2013 (CST)

:As Enigmatic surmised, I'm starting on page 220 out of 253, where the chapter ends. Trying to do 200 pages in 4 days would be pushing it even for me. I roughly put out 15 pages/day on most days, with a modest spike in production on my days off. Dreyakis (talk) 23:08, 22 January 2013 (CST)
