"A demon is about to be born."

She said.

"...demon?"

He asked, and she nodded in reply.

"Yes. A sad demon that fears loneliness..."

At her words, he turned to face her.

A beautiful young girl leapt into his view. She looked to be about twelve or thirteen.

She had a thin, young body that could not grow because she used her power.

Her long hair was stained purple by poison, and she wore a tired expression.

Pale skin and closed eyes.

She looks at scenery with her closed eyes.

A scenery far, far away that nobody should've been able to see.

That place is called 'the future'.

The scenes she saw were scenes from the future.

That's what her cursed eyes are called, and that's what she sees the future with.

And she said that a demon was about to be born.

He asked,

"...by demon, do you mean it literally? The kinds that appear in fairytales, I mean."

Then she opened her eyes - her eyes were stained purple as well. Her originally black eyes were stained by a pale shade of purple - so pale that it looked white. If she kept using her power, she probably didn't have much longer to live.

And he,

"Don't overwork yourself, Ene."

He called her name.

Ene smiled and looked at him.

But her eyes did not reflect his figure. She overused her power, and lost her sight - her ability to see reality.

Ten years ago.

Only ten years ago, her beautiful black eyes were still able to reflect his figure, but now, her purple eyes did not see anything.

Despite that, she still looked at him in happiness.

And she said,

"...don't be so kind to me, Tiir. I'll become afraid of death."

Tiir narrowed his eyes at that.

"I'd like you to not die, if possible."

"I said~ Don't be so kind to me. Geez~"

Once again, she smiled sadly at those words. She smiled, despite her tears that threatened to overflow her unseeing eyes.

And Tiir continued his words.

"And I'll be troubled if you died now. You have to keep on leading us, the bearers of God's eyes."

Ene smiled and said,

"They'll be fine with you."

"I can't do it. I don't possess the light that can charm others, unlike you."

"You have it."

"I don't."

Ene giggled at Tiir's reply.

"You do, Tiir, you just don't realize. If you didn't, I wouldn't have followed you to a place like this."

She said, and turned upwards as if looking at the sky. She was in a narrow, small room, so she shouldn't be able to see the sky, but her eyes always seemed like they were gazing at a far and distant sky.

She closed her eyes for a moment.

And opened them again.

A strange pattern appeared in the center of her eyes. A vermilion pattern that looked like a bird about to take flight.

And she sees.

The future she sees isn't set in stone, and she might not see what she wanted to.

But she can see the future of her companions.

The future of the bearers of God's eyes.

She can see the future of the ones who are called bearers of cursed eyes and despised by humans.

She can see, touch, and - just for a little bit - change their destiny.

And right now, she was trying to see-

"A sad demon will be born."

Ene said.

Tiir asked her,

"Is he the one that you always took notice of?"

She nodded.

"Yes. He's an important person who'll bring about change.


"Ryner Lute?"

"Yes."

"You mean the idiot that remained amongst humans?"

She smiled,

"Yes. That kind person who could not give up on humans. But even now, he's still submerged in despair."

Tiir's face darkened at her words, and he muttered to himself.

"As I'd expected....it was a mistake to leave Ryner amongst humans. That's why I tried to pull him towards our side, even by force..."

Ene shook her head.

"That won't work, Tiir. You're not doing him any good by separating him from humans. Because he won't be filled with despair by humans. No matter how much he's hurt, he won't be filled with despair."

"But what about his heart, then? All '''Alpha Stigma''' bearers will continue to be betrayed, and finally die after going berserk. Even Ryner..."

"He will be alright."

"How can he be alright? He alone remained amongst humans..."

Ene interrupted his words and said,


"He'll be alright, Tiir. Because there are lots of humans who support him - who love him. And he'll be the connection between us and humans...."

"We don't need a connection like that. You trusted humans, and what did you go through? No, what did all the bearers of God's eyes here go through? They...the humans always did the same thing. They despised us, made fools out of us, betrayed us, and in the end, they were only using us for our power. I don't think it's necessary to forge a connection with such humans."

Tiir said.

Ene stood up at that. She looked at him with a kind face and began walking towards him. She extended her hand and - though she shouldn't be able to see - touched his cheek.

Then,

"...Ryner will heal even the wounds in your heart."

Tiir grasped her hand touching his cheek, and said,

"....my heart isn't wounded."

However, Ene smiled sadly and said,

"Really?"


"Yes."


"I see...but you need him. All of us bearers of God's eyes need him. We need the existence of Ryner Lute, who will [[Dai Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu:Volume 6 Translator's Notes#Solve|solve]] all the equations of our despair."

And she looked up at the sky again.

She looked up at the future.

Then, she suddenly smiled a bit smugly,

"...hey, you people watching. You're scared of him, right?"

She said.

He didn't know who those words were directed to.

But she continued, facing something that only she could see.

"You're scared of the Demon who Fears Loneliness[Ryner Eris Reed], who cannot give up on kindess, who cannot give up on humans, who cannot give up on friends - right? Because you cannot comprehend him - you cannot comprehend him with your laws, you're so very scared of him, right?"

She said, but Tiir couldn't understand most of what she said.

But she continued alone.

"Serves you right. But, you'll know further fear. Because we'll be helping him. We won't let anything go your way. We'll help him, and tear apart the worthless scenario you envisioned. We won't let you do whatever you want with Sion Astal, with Riphal Edea, and with Ryner Lute. If I could interfere with you, I'd even abandon my life."

She said.

And Tiir asked,

"....just who are you talking to?"

She answered without looking at him.

"God."

She said.

"God?"

"More accurately - the fools who mistakenly think they're controlling the laws of everything."

At her words, Tiir turned to face her, and then looked at the room's ceiling that she was looking at. He said,

"...oh, you mean...the fools who created good-for-nothings like us, who could only cry and blame ourselves?"


She smiled at that.

She looked at him, and smiled.

Then,

"As I thought. Tiir, you're wounded, after all."

She said.

She touched his cheek again.

"We aren't good-for-nothings, Tiir. Us bearers of God's eyes aren't good-for-nothings. We were born for a reason. And I'll prove that to you now."

Tiir smiled.

"By defying God?"

She smiled as well.

"By defying monsters who think they're God."

"And who are they?"

"'''Priests'''."

"'''Priests'''?"


"Yes. And that's all you need to know for now. Tiir, will you go on a journey again? I want you to save him once more."

"Ryner?"

"Yes. Save him. Because he's trying to become the king of humans."

"...king of humans? So I should just prevent him from doing that?"

But she shook her head again.

"On the contrary, I want you to help him with that. And make him the king of both humans and us bearers of God's eyes."

She raised her hand - which had been touching Tiir's cheek - towards the ceiling.

And,

"He stood up from mountains of blood, despair and corpses, but still cannot give up and overwhelm his heart with despair...make him into a gentle king of demons who - if he can save someone - will not hesitate to murder even God-"

She said.

Question: What general tensing are you trying to use? First couple of chapters seem to be mostly past tense, then they switch to present. I was trying to edit them all to be the same, but ended up not being sure. >_<

To me, since it talks about time loops, it seems like the main character is experiencing it first-hand in the present(since he doesn't remember much from his "past" loops) But I'm not 100% sure if thats the narration view -SwiftStrike
:I tried to use present tense in the first few loops, but then switched to past tense. In the book everything is in present tense and written in the perspective of Kazuki. But I thought it "might" sound more natural if I used past tense for actions and present tense only for his actual toughts. In the end I have no idea which one is better. Bleh, it might be better to switch everything to just present tense then. I'm going to play around with changing the tensing for the first few parts of chapter 10876 to past. Take a look at it when I'm done. It might take some heavy editing, so we can revert it if it doesn't work for you, 3E. ~Macavity

Thanks for the example. I thought it was easier to read than the old all-present version. My only fear is that some direct thoughts of Kazuki might start to sound strange by putting them into past tense. e.g.
There's no way I'd know if you ask me suddenly like this.
→ There was no way I'd know if you asked me suddenly like that.
Past tense, but directly pointed at Kokone. Might as well just be because English's not my mother tongue.
The easiest would be to adopt the tenses of the book. But that would make it harder to read, I guess. And for, say, [http://hmtbs.wordpress.com/category/light-novels/ Ore no Imouto] it worked with the thoughts=present/actions=past mix.

Gah, whoever edited that is a real pro. That's ridiculously readable. (Well, ignoring a lot of stuff on here is about on the same level). Alright, if that's what you want to go for. I'll probably revert the past tense edit and work from the present tense version. It'll be easier.

Thanks for translating this series and I'm looking forward for what's yet to come. I'll probably do some editing in the future, but as I'm pretty lax about it this may not come to pass (I've noticed a couple here and there throughout my marathon of what was translated... On board of the ship traveling from Rosais to Tristain, Saito was having a nightmare while lying in the cabin’s bed.

He had received more damage from the fight with Jörmungand than Louise.

“Ugh, ugh” - though he was having a nightmare, somehow Saito’s feelings were refreshed. He had now somewhat straightened up his feelings on the things he had to do.

Thinking about this and that, Saito was gazing at the ceilings…

<Knock knock>

Someone knocked against the door.

“Who is it?”

“It’s me.” Answered Louise’s voice.

“…it’s open.” He said in an ill-tempered voice, with an awkward expression on her face, Louise stepped in.

“Excuse me. Just in case, I came to check. Are you alright?”

“You… hit me more than enough already.”

Louise pouted and said in a sulky tone.

“Y-you were the one on the wrong. You said you love me only as a familiar. I-it was a lie wasn’t it? Truly. You love me, right?”

She sounded almost desperate.

Saito glared at Louise and said.

“Such a thing can be said to anyone. As a noble.”

“S-still, you love me?”

“I don’t dislike you.”

“So you like me?”

“Isn’t that the opposite? Aren’t you the one who likes me?”

“N-n-n-n-n-n-no way!”

Blushing Louise, whirled her hands fast.

“So you were not this jealous because you love me? And you even recollected your will power fast because you were angry I was kissed. It’s so obvious.”

“Uuuuuh” Louise let out a half-sobbing groan and nodded.

“…Really. I might be so.”

“…Huh?” Surprised, Saito stared at Louise. Seeing him like this, Louise once again gave a triumphant ‘nya’ smile.

“No way. Dog is drooling again.”

“Y-you cheated!”

“And you got all ‘dokidoki’ from that. Idiot.”

Saito turned to the other side to hide his embarrassment and said.

“Really… I’ll just gradually find a way to return home. And then I will definitely drink miso soup.”

“What is miso soup?”

“My country’s soup.”

Then Louise gently said.

“I too would like to drink a soup from Saito’s country.”

Saito’s cheek turned more red than from a kiss.

Louise became embarrassed as well and turned the other way.

“It may be very difficult, however… for a moment, the way things are, I would like you to continue helping us.”

Though she said it calmly, Louise was burning with the feelings inside.

Surely after all this, Saito will deny such a pledge with curses.

‘Why should I do such a thing?’

Why doesn’t Saito say such words.

That time… he saved her from Fouquet’s golem.

And today, he came to Louise’s rescue again…

That’s why behind his snappish words, Louise felt Saito’s love. And now, when he went through Tiffania’s spell… It wasn’t a familiar’s affection, but a genuine love.

However, why do I still doubt? That it isn’t given by a familiar magic? Why can I not get rid of this fear?

… because I am still not confident in myself.

Because I am not confident, I refuse to accept my feelings and doubt Saito's words. Therefore, all I can say are such things – while thinking so, Louise shyly said.

“I-I am being manipulated too.”

“Eh?”

“I hold affection for my familiar as well. That’s why I felt such burning jealousy, even though I did not want to. Really.”

Louise placed her palms on both of Saito's cheeks and suddenly brought her lips close to his.

Two pair of lips slowly melted with each other.

Gently tracing Saito’s lips with her own, Louise thought absent mindedly while kissing.

When I used Void, why was I so angry?

Was it because… Saito did that with another girl? Apparently, it recharged real fast. What an annoying willpower – Louise thought.

Besides I got angry from the bottom of my heart.

It was hateful, it was painful… however, there was nothing I could do…

Louise’s lips kissed the corner of his mouth before pressing themselves hard against his lips again.

After continuing kissing him wildly for a while… Louise suddenly pulled her lips away from his, catching her breath.

“Poor me - I have been manipulated by the Void to feel an attraction towards my familiar. I am such a poor girl.”

After saying those words, Louise leaned in and passionately recaptured his lips again.

While kissing her lips repeatedly… Saito understood that Louise’s words were a lie.

It was painfully obvious.

Louise’s kisses were increasingly feverish and hot.

Hot because Louise’s feelings for Saito were outspoken.

The moment he saw the lower half of the Albion continent covered by a white cloud from their ship, Saito mused.

Was… Tiffania’s magic really effective against me?

Originally this ‘Fake motive’ might have been nothing more but, in Cattleya’s words, ‘The locked mind’.

Well, when he thinks about it, it may have been just showing off Saito's natural optimism.

Something that even your own heart is not aware off.

However, he knew one thing for sure.

Looking at Louise always makes his heart beat fast. Even Tiffania’s magic could not change that – it still remained the same.

Saito recalled a dream he saw in Tiffania’s house.

That time, Mother asked Saito.

““Haven’t you forgotten something?”

After all, the meaning of a man’s existence, was to protect the girl that makes his heart beat hard.

Even at the cost of life.

That was all that there is.

That was what, inside the ship, drifting further away from the Albion, and continuing to exchange passionate kisses with Louise, Saito thought.

Quick comment on your translation for ALO. While I haven't seen any official English translation for its name, the Japanese Wikipedia calls it Alfheim Online. Personally, I agree with it since it follows the Mythology theme, with Álfar meaning elves in Norse Mythology, making Alfheim mean Elves' (Alf) Home (Heim). The reason I think it follows the Mythology theme is that I believe Yggdrasil makes an appearance (I couldn't find where I read this, and I have bad memory at best, so possibly wrong), Kirito's class becomes a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spriggan Spriggan], Lyfa (or whatever it ends up being) is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylph Sylph], and Yui is a Navigation Pixie. I thought hey why not use ATLAS to translate the raw to at least get a hint of what's going to happen.
This did not go well, I mean although the program boasts its amazing accuracy in translating, when I translated the whole novel it didn't even make sense at all. In fact, a Google online translation did better than the $1,400 program.

I actually did the same thing, but I could understand like one sentence out of 15, and it also helps if you know what ATLAS translates the names as. I also found a timeline of SAO's events, and used Rikaichan to skim through it (I probably look for spoilers a little too much on series I really like, and I wasn't disappointed). Anyway though, I've been meaning to ask this: sharramon, are you using official Korean translations or fan translations?

I did as well. Oddly, I can figure out quite much of chapter 5 with it. It hurt my eyes and mind though. It feels like deciphering a code @-@. I decide to quit because the deciphering work reduce the enjoyment in reading it and when I read sharramon-sama's translation to find out he bits I'm missing, it just won't as fun since I got to know part of the stroy already.

I apologize if I'm bothering you. But, in chapter 2 there is a weird sentence: "To jump into the game." It feels incomplete, or just completely unnecessary. I know I'm just a reader, and all your doing is directly translating, but I think you should either expand the sentence or possibly remove it.

Well it actually seems fine.... perhaps I should change it to "To jump into the game..." it's like a sort of statement of.... surprise? Or something similar. I'm reluctant to take it out since it was actually in the book exactly like that. I don't mind changing some things about a sentence but taking out a whole sentence altogether seems a bit....

Okay, and I completely agree with you about detracting from a work. It just seems a bit off, and incomplete.
:How about using: "To literally jump into the game"?

I've checked the Chinese version of that line, Sharramon. Would these sound more complete in a sense?
"We've completely entered the game." / "We're completely in the game." / "We've completely leapt into the game."
Just a tip on translation. Sometimes you need to completely reword and even add words to the phrase for it to make sense. English often needs a subject for the meaning to be clear. Chinese and Jap don't seem to need that as often.

I know this is a minor point, but semicolons are meant to separate two closely related things that could be sentences by themselves, like the first line of the synopsis. For parts like "...floating castle, 'Aincrad'; he distinguished...", it should really be commas on both sides of Aincrad.

Thanks for chapter 6. This is a really good light novel. Can't wait for the next chapters. I would like to know though when you get volume 2 whether Kirito stays with Asuna after volume 1 or not. Because looking at the covers for volumes 2 and 3 it seems he teams up with other girls.

He does stay with her. Book two's about the past and the third book is about saving her from a game or something by what I gather...
