I take as little creative license as I can when translating (stylistic issues are the editor's job) so it may seem a little forced at times. Of course, I'm also new to the translation business so there'll likely be plenty of errors. TLCs will have their work cut out for them.

ロレンスがミローネ商会にとりあえずこの話に興味を持ってもらうことに成功したその後にしたことは、まずゼーレンといいう男の存在を証明することだ。

After having succeeded in perking the Milone Company's interest in his story, Lawrence's first task was to prove the existence of the man called Zelen.
ロレンスとホロは早速その日の日没にヨーレンドの酒場に出向き、ゼーレンと連絡を取りたいとウェイトレスの娘に告げた。

They were informed to go to a bar in Yorrend at sunset of that day, and inform the daughter of the waitress immediately if Zelen appears.

ゼーレンは案の定毎日定刻にここに顔を出すわけではないようで店内に姿がなかったが、ウェイトレスの娘はたまたま今日だけいなかったようなことを言い、そして日が沈んでしばらく経ってからゼーレンが姿を現した。

Though Zelen didn't show his form at the appointed time every day as I had thought, unexpectedly the waitress' daughter wasn't around, and a short while after the sun had gone down, Zelen appeared.

ロレンスは他愛のない商売の話をゼーレンとしていたが、その模様は事前に打ち合わせをしておいたミローネ商会の人間が近くの席で秘密裏に観察していたはずだ。

Lawrence had an innocent business story prepared for Zelen, while the Milone Company had secretly made arrangements beforehand to observe the man in the nearby seat.

これから数日間、ミローネ商会はロレンスの持ちかけてきた商談が事実であるかどうかの判断を、ゼーレンの身辺を調査することでつける手はずだった。

For a few days, The Milone Company would judge the truth of Lawrence's proposal by investigating Zelen's background.

ロレンスは、まず間違いなくゼーレンの背後には大商人が控えていると思っている。

Lawrence believed that a large merchant company surely had to be backing Zelen.

そして、背後に大商人が控えていれば、まず間違いなくロレンスの思ったとおりの構図がそこにあるはずだったし、だとすればそれをミローネ商会が確かめるのもたやすいことだと思った。

And if a large merchant were indeed backing him, the underlying threads linking them would be there, and easy for the Milone Company to confirm.

ただ、問題はあった。

There was just one problem.

「間に合うかや？」

"Will we be on time?"

ミローネ商会がゼーレンの身辺調査を開始したその日の夜、宿に帰ってホロはそう言った。

Horo asked when they returned to the inn after the evening the Milone Company had started its investigation.

ホロの言うとおり、間題は時間だった。

As Horo said, the problem was time.

仮にロレンスの仮説がすべて正しかったとしても、場合によってはもう利益など見込めなくなる可能性がある。

There was a possibility that the profits would not be as expected, even if Lawrence's hypothesis was correct.

いや、出るには出るだろうが、ミローネ商会が商会として動いてくれるほどの利益は見込めなくなるかもしれない。

Well, it's likely to happen anyway, but the Milone company might not be possible to predict the gains.

そうなればロレンス一人でこの話から利益を出すのは難しくなる。

If not, it becomes difficult for Lawrence to gain profit from this venture.

その代わり、ミローネ商会がすばやく決断をして計画に着手すれば、転がり込む利益は途方もないものになる。

If on the other hand, the Milone Company decides quickly to go ahead with the project, the profits that roll in will be extraordinary.

ロレンスがゼーレンの背後に見た企みと、その裏を突く企みは、そういった類のものだった。

The scheme of Zelen that Lawrence uncovered, and the scheme to counter it, was of such a kind.

「まあ、おそらく間に合うだろう。そう思ったからこそミローネ商会に頼んだ」

"Well, we'll probably be on time. I thought as such when I asked the Milone Company."

ろうそくの明かりを頼りに、酒場から小売りしてもらったぶどう酒をコップに注ぎ、ロレンスは中を覗きこんでから半分ほど一息に飲んだ。

Lawrence poured some wine from the bar, and after glancing at the half-full glass under the candlelight, drank the whole thing.

ベッドの上で胡坐をかいて同じくぶどう酒の注がれたコップを手にしたホロが、中身を干してからそんなロレンスを見る。

He similarly poured a cup for Horo, who sitting cross-legged on the bed, and watched as she took it and dried its contents.

「あの商会はそんなに優秀なのかや？」

"Is that company really that good?"

「異国の地で商売を成功させるには、とにかく強力な耳を持つことだ。

"To succeed at business in foreign countries, it's sure to have a powerful information network.

酒場での商人達の会話や、市場での客達の会話。

Conversations of merchants in bars and in the market.

それらを周りより飛びぬけて多く集めなければ異国の地に商会の支店を構え、立派な大きさにすることなどできない。

If they didn't have excellent communication between their branch offices, being a company of their size wouldn't be possible.

その点、あの商会はかなりのものだろう。

At this point, that company is considerable."

ゼーレンという男一人の身の回りを調べるくらいは造作ないと思う」

The easist way is by examining the background of the man called Zelen.

喋りながら、ロレンスは酒を注ぐようにと催促するホロのコップをぶどう酒で満たし、喋り終わる頃にはホロのそれは空になっていた。

The cup of wine that Lawrence had poured at Horo's request while they were talking had been emptied after they had finished.

その上に次を催促する。

On top of that she asked for more.

呆れた早さだ。

What speed.

「ふうん……」

「どうかしたか?」

"What did you do?"

ぼんやりとした顔で遠くを見つめて気のない返事をしたのでホロは何か思うところがあったのかと思ったのだが、どうやらだいぶ酔いが回っているだけのようだった。

She replied indifferently while staring off into the distance with a blank look, seemingly having gotten considerably drunk.

手にコップを持ったまま、まぶたがゆっくりと閉じかけていた。

Her eyes were slowly closing as she held her cup.

「しかし、ずいぶん飲むな」

"But that really was fast."

「酒の魅力は大きい……」

"This wine is very captivating..."

「まあ、それなりの酒だしな。普段はこんないいものは飲まない」

"Well it is quite passable. Usually you wouldn't drink wine of such quality."

「そうなのかや？」

"Is that so?"

「金がない時は、葡萄の搾りかすでどろどろになっていたり、砂糖や蜂蜜やショウガを入れないと飲めないくらい苦かったりするようなのも飲む。

"When you don't have the money, even something as bitter as squeezed pulpy grapes without sugar, honey or ginger must be drunk.

コップの底が見えるようなぶどう酒は基本的にぜいたく品だ」

Basically, wine that is clear enough to see the bottom of your glass is a luxury commodity."

ロレンスの言葉に、ホロは手元のコップを覗き込んでからぼんやりと眩いた。

At Lawrence's words, Horo gazed blankly at the cup in her hand and felt dizzy.

「ふむ。これくらいが普通なのかと思っとった」

"Hmph. I thought this was normal."

「はっは。そりゃあよいご身分だ」

"Haha. Only if you were upper class."

ロレンスは笑いながらそう言ったのだが、ホロはロレンスのそんな言葉を聞くと途端に顔をこわばらせて、うつむきが
ちにコシプをベッドの下の床に置くとそのままベッドの上で丸くなってしまった。

Lawrence said as he laughed, but while he was talking Horo's face had stiffened up and, lying down on the bed, she put her cup on the floor underneath, and curled up to sleep.

あまりにも唐突過ぎて、ロレンスは驚いてそんなホロの様子をただ見つめていたのだが、少なくとも眠いからそうしたとかいう雰囲気ではあり得なった。

It was so sudden that even though she was sleepy, the atmosphere in the room had changed such that Lawrence could only just stare at her.

少し自分の言動を思い返す。

He reconsidered his actions a little.

何かホロの気に障るようなことを言ってしまったのかもしれない。

Perhaps Horo was annoyed at something he'd said.

「どうした？」

What's wrong?

しかし、特に思いつかずそう尋ねてみるが、ホロのとがった狼の耳はピクリとも動かない。

However, even after asking as the idea hit him, Horo's pointed ears didn't prick up.

どうも相当怒っているようだった。

It seemed she was somehow quite angry.

ロレンスはそれ以上声もかけられず必死に頭を巡らせていたのだが、やがて思い出した。

Lawrence mulled it over in his head without saying anything, and before long, remembered.

ホロと出会った時に交わしたやり取りを。

The exchange they had when he had met Horo.

「もしかして、よい身分だって言ったのに怒ったのか？」

"Could it be, you're angry at the social status thing I said?"

ホロはロレンスに狼の姿を見せろと言われた時、恐れおののかれるのが嫌だと言った。

When Horo agreed to show Lawrence her wolf form, she had said she didn't like how I had been afraid.

また、特別な存在に祭り上げられるのも嫌だと言った。

Moreover, being admired and revered was also something she disliked.

ロレンスは旅の吟遊詩人の歌を思い出す。

Lawrence recalled the song of the wandering minstrel.

神が年に一回の祭りを要求するのは、そのあまりの寂しさからだ、という歌を。

The song of god requiring a yearly festival and the lonely remainder from it.

「悪かった。特に深い意味があって言ったんじゃない」

"I'm sorry. I didn't get the deep meaning of it."

しかし、ホロは相変わらずピクリともしなかった。

However, Horo didn't stir as normal.

OK some of you might notice that this thing has an editor all of a sudden. I've done this 'without' a supervisor..... I hope that's OK.... O.o

Feel free to keep editing if you see something wrong though, we're only two pairs of eyes and it's highly probable that we'd miss something. Also we aren't perfect.

This is also not going to affect the speed in any way (well except for only today I think... since y'know it's going to be first 'gap' but it'll be back to normal. Actually you guys won't even notice).

You're never be going to be waiting for too long.... well unless I'm translating slowly. If the editor hasn't put the next chap up in two days I'll put mine up first. The editor can chance it with his (or her???? Now I think about it I don't know O.O) version. But I don't think that that's going to happen.

Far from perfect. We're both ESL (English as Second Language) people after all. The good news is that I can do Chinese-English proofreading/editing, the bad news is that tenses are a weakness for me. I'm trying to keep an eye out on other people's edits and track what kind of things I miss, but if you notice a particular pattern that I fault in please don't hesitate to fix and/or drop me a note. Thanks for chapter 6. This is a really good light novel. Can't wait for the next chapters. I would like to know though when you get volume 2 whether Kirito stays with Asuna after volume 1 or not. Because looking at the covers for volumes 2 and 3 it seems he teams up with other girls.

He does stay with her. Book two's about the past and the third book is about saving her from a game or something by what I gather...

You are awesome and so is this book! I know this is a minor point, but semicolons are meant to separate two closely related things that could be sentences by themselves, like the first line of the synopsis. For parts like "...floating castle, 'Aincrad'; he distinguished...", it should really be commas on both sides of Aincrad.

I thought hey why not use ATLAS to translate the raw to at least get a hint of what's going to happen.
This did not go well, I mean although the program boasts its amazing accuracy in translating, when I translated the whole novel it didn't even make sense at all. In fact, a Google online translation did better than the $1,400 program.
So in conclusion, I decided to patiently wait . . . okay never mind! Please!!!! I can't wait! where's the next chapter...

I actually did the same thing, but I could understand like one sentence out of 15, and it also helps if you know what ATLAS translates the names as. I also found a timeline of SAO's events, and used Rikaichan to skim through it (I probably look for spoilers a little too much on series I really like, and I wasn't disappointed). Anyway though, I've been meaning to ask this: sharramon, are you using official Korean translations or fan translations?

I did as well. Oddly, I can figure out quite much of chapter 5 with it. It hurt my eyes and mind though. It feels like deciphering a code @-@. I decide to quit because the deciphering work reduce the enjoyment in reading it and when I read sharramon-sama's translation to find out he bits I'm missing, it just won't as fun since I got to know part of the stroy already.

As this is a teaser image, it isn't going to give away who or what he saved (but I do believe the kanji says friend/companion); just like volume 1.

And about the part why she's a Beast Tamer. Just speculation here, but it's probably an Extra Skill like Kirito's Dual Wield. Maybe even just a profession, like Asuna's cooking. ~EnigmaticRepose

I've read two chapters of SAO and up to chapter 4 of PR's Vol3 and so far the settings are really similar, although they're different in terms of characters and amount of comedy and other things.

It may be very similar, but you can't say that this setting is very unique in terms of anime and manga, I mean, look at .Hack. I think that this is the similarity is only a result of the similar settings.

You could add it as a preview I guess, as the people over the Zero no Tsukaima section do. It is not a bad translation though, they are by Harukano from Otakyu, the same guy who did the Juuni Kokki translations until it got licensed.

I added it next to v12. It's not whether it's a good or bad translation, so much as I'm just intending to power through everything nonetheless. We'll see if my stance changes later on, when the novelty idea of translating 30+ volumes wears off ;p Bunch of stylistic differences and all that I assume exist, since there were no guidelines agreed upon or anything.

Uh, I don't think anyone would mind if you did that, but I (still) haven't finished going through my friend's proof-reads of v1 and vV2, which is why I was hesitant with doing it for v1 and why I haven't really done it for v2. I don't know how (or whether to) upload single-volume versions of your translations, but I recently converted your translation of Ibara no Mori to a single volume. I did it for myself so I could read it on a Kindle, so it lacks links back to baka-tsuki. Conversion is easy, I'd be happy to do it for earlier volumes once you're done with edits. I was wondering if it would be possible to keep dialogue line and the explanatory author's line in the same paragraph. Because else it is a bit too confusing - someone speaks a complete thought, and then we are told who said it, but this two things seem unrelated.
If it is fine with you I would have liked to edit already translated chapters this way. Just punctuation, nothing else =)

Hate doing this, but I'm gonna give up for at least two months. I'm graduating in three months but I've got nowhere to go afterward... which is a big problem. Hopefully I'll figure out what I'm going to do this summer and beyond, but until then translating isn't even at the back of my mind. I just don't have the time nor presence of mind to do it right now... if I forced myself I wouldn't be paying the work enough respect, and I honestly would rather not have this hanging over my head. Hopefully I'll figure things out in the next few months, and if/when I do (or if I end up being a rounin) I'll poke my head back in and see if I'm still needed. Until then, gokigenyou, and thanks for putting up with all the difficulties. When I started up I honestly thought I'd be able to go a volume a month, but I sorely underestimated how busy I'd become in my last year of university.

I'm not a translator...just a reader commenting on the story.

I'm sure you didn't mistranslated Koizumi's time loop explanation or least Kyon's interpretation of the left loop ("The left loop was the time I missed. It was the time from when I lost consciousness after being stabbed up to when I woke up in the hospital. Those three days were this loop.").

But when I tried to do it myself (yes I have lots of free time :p), I got a different diagram, so I think the author got it wrong or something:

If you look at the linked diagram, the right loop in Koizumi's diagram would be 3->4->1->3 in my diagram (which correspond to the events in Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi), and his left loop would 3->5->3 in mine (which correspond to the 3 days b/w the stairwell accident and Kyon waking up from his coma). But notice how there is no 5->3 in my diagram. Instead the left loop should be 6->3->5->6.

If you look at the diagram, you'll also see what Koizumi was talking about when he said "The memory we have but you don't have...... when you fell down the stairs on the eighteenth, to your awakening on the twenty-first, three days later, maybe it never existed." This involves deleting the line segment 3->5, and merging 4 and 5 into a single point that would describe 2 things: Kyon pressing the <Enter> key to travel to the past again; and the alternate timeline morphing back to the original timeline, where the memories of the deleted 3->5 segment are fake.

The second should really be singular too, but it could be argued that it refers to things that are performed every year, hence can be left as a plural.

I thought hey why not use ATLAS to translate the raw to at least get a hint of what's going to happen.
This did not go well, I mean although the program boasts its amazing accuracy in translating, when I translated the whole novel it didn't even make sense at all. In fact, a Google online translation did better than the $1,400 program.

I actually did the same thing, but I could understand like one sentence out of 15, and it also helps if you know what ATLAS translates the names as. I also found a timeline of SAO's events, and used Rikaichan to skim through it (I probably look for spoilers a little too much on series I really like, and I wasn't disappointed). Anyway though, I've been meaning to ask this: sharramon, are you using official Korean translations or fan translations?

I did as well. Oddly, I can figure out quite much of chapter 5 with it. It hurt my eyes and mind though. It feels like deciphering a code @-@. I decide to quit because the deciphering work reduce the enjoyment in reading it and when I read sharramon-sama's translation to find out he bits I'm missing, it just won't as fun since I got to know part of the stroy already.

I've read two chapters of SAO and up to chapter 4 of PR's Vol3 and so far the settings are really similar, although they're different in terms of characters and amount of comedy and other things.

It may be very similar, but you can't say that this setting is very unique in terms of anime and manga, I mean, look at .Hack. I think that this is the similarity is only a result of the similar settings.

:On an English level, the interrobang (?!)comes in both forms. It works as a tone modifier when making an explicative sentence. If it's more of a question, the question mark comes first. From what Thelastguardian tells me, Kyon's dialogue is not contained in parathesis in the novel. This sounds like the author is trying to allow the reader to connect with Kyon on a more personal level by making him less a character in a story and more a familiar friend sharing a personal story. Of course, that makes for some confusing dialogue since his words are not differentiated from his inner thoughts. And even if we put parenthesis around his words, there are no ", said Kyon" or ", mumbled Kyon" like is found in most novels that I'm familiar with.

A solution that I believe will do nicely is to simply italicize Kyon's words throughout the novel. Thus, we are both maintaining the author's literary style and differentiating Kyon's words in a way not overly invasive of the original text.

Also, I think there are parts that are supposed to make the reader think that Kyon said them, which then are followed up by lines like, "Or that was what I would have said." Hello fellow Editors & contributors.

Lets open the debate on the topic of standardlize writing format.

While we all respect each translators scripting style, it has been general agreed by thelastguardian that it would be unwise for readers to experience different styles across each chapters, and he has suggested that a translater undertakes a volume each.

I personally find that this will only result in the same problems except it will be by volume to volume with each translators taking more time, and forcing the reader to take longer to change from one style to another as they will have grown familiar with each volume style.

I suggest we let the translators to get on with their jobs, and have the editors worry about it, let you lot standardlize it so that they will flow together.

lets find a compromise between all the translators styles, finding the easiest and less labour edit intense would be preferred.

MSN doesn't let you idle 24/7 (or is bad at it), keep idiots out of the channel (especially since everyone is an "operator"), or do file transfers very well (8 KB/s limit, anyone?). Plus, I use Trillian, not the crappy MSN software that likes to pop-up every five seconds on my screen.

If you want to make IRC simple, we could always do Java IRC chatrooms. Just click and go. I can handle the "complicated" stuff that involves IRC channel moderation and such, if needed.

Is real-time discussion really necessary?

From my prospective, more doesn't necessary mean better.
I'm all for it if there is a real benefit in key areas that'll improve the project that the current system cannot provide.

At this moment I don't really see the justification, as not all Translators or certain Dedicated Editors are active every day.

While it is evident that certain discussions here do take their time to respond, I think its part of the Baka-Tsuki way, we don't take things so serious that we have the need to take this to real-time.
Everyone has a chance to reflect on their response, and at the same time give the project an atmosphere of laid-back, and most important, that this is a fun venture, that people have taken the time to do.

It seems to me that it might make it easier to differentiate seperate portions of the text, and just be more easily read altogether. Yes, the first one is available now. YenPress is publishing it. I picked up a copy for 9 bucks for the sake of supporting the author, and it was very much worth it. Right now, I'm using this until the future volumes come out in America. (Lack of a signature: Anon Y. Mous)

**The official American/English Language version of the novel is very much worth buying. The quality of the translation is naturally more consistent from cover-to-cover than you tend to see here on this site, no disrespect intended to the volunteers who have provided these unofficial translations. The hard-bound version looks and feels classy, has all of the illustrations (bw/colored), and just feels good to hold, read, and look at. The only downside is the lack of footnotes explaining cultural references, but I didn't find them to be all that necessary when I read it anyways. If there's something that goes over your head (which I doubt), there's always wikipedia. I highly recommend buying the official releases and supporting the publishers work; maybe it will spur the author to complete volume 10 to know he has an international audience willing to buy his books.

I know this is really jumping the gun, but maybe you should consider adding a "Patch" section. :On an English level, the interrobang (?!)comes in both forms. It works as a tone modifier when making an explicative sentence. If it's more of a question, the question mark comes first. As far as I can tell, the translation is pretty much done, and just needs to be proofread and some edits made, correct? Yet it seems like it's been sitting at that state for a very long time, with no updates at all... I'm aware of the existence of the unofficial patch, which seems to be the only option for people at the moment (say what you like about it, but it really is unreasonable to expect people to wait months or longer for something that may not even materialize, when something suitable, albeit with a few hiccups and typos from time to time, already exists) but is there even any plan anymore of creating an "official" patch? I mean I could probably go through and proofread the thing myself, and put up a clean version myself, if I really felt like it, but I dunno that you people would care much for that... Insertion tool? Sounds useful, though for our Higurashi stuff Shion & I are just doing the translation/editing within the script itself, and leaving the original Japanese (commented out). Just though I'd say, I did turn down the text insertion job when Sterling01 contacted me, since there seemed to be coding problems in Umineko (as in things that made Onscripter unhappy.) I still don't think that text insertion is the best use of my time, but I'd be happy to help sort out the coding bugs and see where Onscripter might need to be updated to handle new Nscripter features. (As in, I'm fine with being the Onscripter coder, literally.) Higurashi is still my first priority, though.

Then it's okay. Still nscripter is upgrading monthly and onscripter is mostly stagnating. For that sound bug, it's actually easy to fix, you just have to replace the value of seplay, seplay2 and dwavestop to good range, since now its off range.

Hi guys!, im less than 20 minutes i have finished playing the second patch of umineko and it was greeeeeeat! with this second release we can have a sneak peek of what is coming, so anyway i wanted to thank you guys for doing this project! ^^

=About the removal of the scripts=
It seems that many people had some heated reactions towards this peculiar decision we made. In order for all of you to understand our decision, I will explain in further details why we removed the scripts.

As sterling01 already explained, our primary goal is to actually get some support from Ryukishi07. What people really misunderstood here is: no we aren't asking for permission or whatnot (heck it is too late and especially ironic to ask that only now). By support, we mean some acknowledgment from his part, but especially material we can get from the author himself in order to provide a proper translation for the fans. As explained in the glossary, Kanji can have a lot of readings, unnatural included. As result, in many instances, some words are using double meaning or peculiar reading (the first example to come in my mind is 福音, which we romajized into "Fukuin"), hence for translation’s sake, knowing the reading would be a plus in order to keep consistencies and to provide a better subtle translation. The other possibility from such support is also some original background that were used for the game, but which would be difficult to work on (especially Episode 3 ending scroll).

This is what we call "support": some help from Ryukishi07 in order to provide a better English patch for everyone. We are not trying to tie license and whatnot. We are fans after all.

That said, this support has also another advantage: it would lessen our chances to get in trouble (read: usual legal issues). Despite the game is a doujin, we are still using someone else’s intellectual property. Sure, we do not make profits or use the scripts on someone else's behalf, yet it would be very idiotic and troublesome if we carelessly work on such novel, and then get prosecuted for that kind of fan work. As result, despite we aren't licensing the game or what not (impossible task anyway), it would leave us margin of freedom, which would permit the game to be known to the western market. As we already know about it, it certainly won't make everyone buy the game (let's be frank: the vast majority of the English readers did download the game illegally before we could make that patch for the demo version), yet it would be a nice opportunity to generate "more chance of sold copies" for 07th expansion, but primarily: the game would be known outside of Japan.

Therefore, in order to make us able to gain Ryukishi07's support, it would be preferable for us to take down the scripts. Hosted publicly, it would be quite troublesome as the scripts hosted have the original Japanese script, which would be even more troublesome for the author, as, like we said, the script itself is the main dish, even if reading it would be far less interesting without music, SFX, character sprite and BG. Yet, it would be very silly to push and gamble our luck that far with Ryukishi07 if we leave the script in the wild like this.

Another point is that the Wiki system wasn't really successful for us either, compared to other projects of the same kind. Despite the clear open source of the scripts and our repeated requests of help, we barely got some help of a handful of persons. To them, we would like to express our gratitude. That said, we must admit that it was a failure and that it didn't really give us improvement in our progress. As result, it doesn't really give reason to actually keep the script on the wiki.
That aside, the wiki will still be used for what it is worth, and we can use it as a sand box, discussion about standards, typo/mistake reports etc, so it isn't all useless.

Finally, as already explained, the scripts we took down were the rough which weren't considered as a real service. Theace did a digest translation and it is readable, but it wouldn't be really the best option as people would go impatient and read it as it is, and lose interest in the retranslated patch despite it is highly probable that many details and subtle occurrences were omitted in the first drafts. That would be like leaving out alpha on the loose despite we can provide a beta or "gold" release, if you want a silly comparison.

Nevertheless, if you really want these scripts so badly, you can make a request on Animesuki, sending [http://forums.animesuki.com/member.php?u=37964 me a PM], with a proof of purchase (something like ebay: the CD case with your username on a paper or something). Yes, it is again a very incisive condition, though we believe that those who actually bought the game deserve such "privilege". For the rest, we won't condone the use of illegal copies, but that won't prevent you to use the upcoming patches. At least, we will be glad that you will enjoy Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

That said, rest assured: we won't use any complex installer at all, the patch structure will stay the same. We will also continue the current type of release: partial patch in order not to leave you in the dark for too long.
I cannot provide you a proper ETA for the next patch, but I can hereby say: it will be soon enough, and it will contain chapters 0-8 of Episode 2, which represents the whole first day, 4th october 1986.
