I just went ahead and translated the rest of the Japanese names of the chapters. I noticed a few chapters having different ordering comparing the the Web novel. The current chapter 16 should be the 19th chapter from the web novel since, the naming make sense with the chapter's contents (trying to be as spoiler-free as possible). But the problem here lies in 'Black Headed Dog' chapter's contents (according to the web novel's version), which will be very weird without reading chapter 17-19 (preparation, armor, and hourglass) first. Although since the Light novel's version is different from the web novel's one, the contents might be slightly different(but both should be talking about Raphtaria's memory). With that said, what do you guys suggest we should do about this chapter('black headed dog')? Should I just translate according to the webnovel's flow, meaning: re-arranging 'Black Headed Dog' to ch 19?
 There is also chapter 20, 'sword', I don't remember reading any of the web novel's chapter that was close or similarly named around the time line of volume one ( before Wave 1 and a day or two after ). Should we just skip this chapter for now?

- why Fittoria(present Filorial Empress) not included as list of hero?(carriage hero, the forgotten 8th of 7 star heroes) 
- why whip hero name is Taniko?(that's nickname Naofumi give to her, the real name is Wyndia(since my katakana name reading not too good, it's sound like that to me at least)) 
- why the ship hero name is rough?(it based on Raphtalia, so it ought to be Raph-chan. Yes, CHAN is part of the name, thus it would be Raph-chan-chan if other use suffix chan) 
- I never read any part that Filo ever being chosen by the axe weapon. It already midori's by time it spread out 
- likewise, Taniko(Wyndia) not originally meant to be whip hero. It supposed to be Rato's, but she use Wyndia as shield when the weapon approach her, thus it end up as Wyndia's 
- who the heck is Kagami?(u probably meant Glass, the fan hero, though I dunno how u end up with that name instead...) 
- why クズ not included as one of king alternate name?(even history book in 2nd to last chapter of main tale use that name instead) 
- why ビッチ and アバズレ in 1st princess page translate as same?(I know it literally mean same, but at least use different word for variation... Like b*tch and wh*re instead just b*tch) 
- common error of エアスト translated as instant everywhere 
- Motoyasu's curse series spear is supposed to be lust-envy spear, instead just envy spear 
- still in Motoyasu's, Buryunakku is supposed to be Brionac 
- every hero char(4 main + 7 star + 1 n additional 8) have 0の(weapon name) and 0xの(weapon name)... As these are only weapon that allow to damage final enemy(I mention this due Naofumi page include 0の盾 in his skill list) 
- why アトラ read as alta?(it's either Atla or Atra) 
- why there are only 1 Gaerion page? There at least 2(3 if gaiden included) different Gaerion that exists in story(Gaerion(parent of Wyndia), (Gaerion(Pet of Naofumi also pet of Wyndia(male)), and Gaerion(in gaiden story, pet of Naofumi and little sister of Wyndia(female))

I have filled up all the chapter names, some name which I don't understand I leave it as japanese and please do note that there are differences between the light novel and web novel. Hi, regarding Vol 1 chapter 10 お子様ランチ and Vol 1 side story 2 お子様ランチの旗, I am not sure whether did the publisher or author just put up one of the main chapters as a side story. But I can tell that chapter 10 お子様ランチ is based on web novel's お子様ランチの旗 and side story 2 お子様ランチの旗 is based on web novel's 旗、再び. Or Maybe you want to wait until volume 7 is up, then we do the side story which we can put a note there saying "Unable to finish the volume due to repetitive chapter names with unknown story content". Thanks for translating, but I want to ask about what kind of differences are there between the light novel and the web novl version? Is it something like SAO or Mahouka that first started as a web novel?

Light novels are physical novels that got published by publishers, they usually have illustrations. While Web novels are basically free on the authors' respective websites for those web novels, they don't usually have illustration and the chapters might not be nicely divided into sections (A.K.A arc or volume) comparing to the Light novels, which is the case for Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (there's no arc or volume or even chapter number on the web novel version of tate no yuusha no nariagari). - [[User:Alpaca|Alpaca]] ([[User talk:Alpaca|talk]]) 02:38, 25 August 2014 (CDT)

This has been a translation of the web novel since the beginning, just so you know. It is just not so obvious since nobody has bothered to make it so. I enjoy reading LNs when I have the chance, and I prefer fantasy-type series over the romance and slice-of-life types, mainly because there are too many harem elements otherwise. When I'm not reading LNs here, I read through light novels, first with a dictionary/wiktionary to learn kanji, then with a machine translation so I can actually make progress. Any "translation" you see under my name is going to be a machine translation, even if I put the effort to translate with a dictionary, since I am absolutely confident my skill is currently below a machine translation. Below are some of the series I have invested time in or plan to do so.

I'm getting this question more than I expected, so I'll put what I do up here (roughly). 
Preparation 
1. Find raw text or convert raw images to text. ABBYY FineReader does well for the image to text conversion. 
2. Insert any line/page breaks that might be missing. I match this up with the raw novels so it's easy to find any mistakes I might notice in the future. 
3. Change any common terminology/name to English with Find/Replace. It just makes things easier. 

Conversion 
Program: Translator Aggregator w/ Atlas, Google, and Excite always running. I will use other free machines (i.e. Bing/Babelfish) if I need them. 

Process: Convert by line (i.e. block of text) 
Convert by sentence if conversion by line is difficult 
Convert by fragment if conversion by sentence is difficult 
Mark anything I find difficult to understand, poorly converted, or difficult to convert 
Read the converted chapter to check for inconsistencies (i.e. lines which were poorly converted, or re-converting if more information was derived later in the chapter/book 
Read the converted novel for a general English edit.

A note for those who are wondering or have asked, for Madan no Ou Volume 6, I will eventually make a pdf, and for Volume 7, I will eventually read it, but I will not likely be releasing anything for it other than a pdf from someone else. There are a few reasons for this, the two main ones being that I am getting busier with work and classes and that I am currently reading Mondaiji Volume 3 and Hiera-Glaphicos Volume 2. Cleared up a whole bunch of comments because I get tired of looking at the wall of text when someone wants to leave a message! Anyway, the answer to the two above questions is this. 1. I am not doing anything with Madan no Ou Volume 6 since there are translators working on it. Since I'm learning the language, my pace would be no faster, if not slower, than theirs. 2. Parabellum preview is already up on the appropriate page, so just go download it. That one was a mostly a personal translation (with a dictionary and everything), but I was (and still am) quite weak on the grammar, so I'm not sure it's much better than anything else I've put out :( --[[User:EnigmaticAxiom|EnigmaticAxiom]] 10:31 2013 May 12 (CST)

Process: Convert by line (i.e. block of text) 
Convert by sentence if conversion by line is difficult 
Convert by fragment if conversion by sentence is difficult

Read the converted novel for a general English edit.

That's the best my crappy mind can come up with. The kanji themselves are, for the most part, lost on me. 弦 can mean bowstring or chord (as in sound), and 武 tends to be more of a militaristic type thing, I believe. For 羅 and 轟, I looked to online dictionaries for the Chinese meaning, rather than the Japanese meaning, and the results are roughly what I wrote above. Again, I could be completely wrong, but that's my interpretation on it. Either way, the name Olga is correct. If you were worried about that, it would be "Yoh" rather than "Yuh." Honestly speaking, I think it should remain as is. Also, I'm not sure how confusing it would be. Her name is capitalized like all names should be. "You" as a word is only capitalized if it's at the beginning of a sentence, and the following word should tell who it refers to. The translators are also maintaining titles and honorifics for a lot of it, so it'll be "Kasukabe," "You-san," and "Kasukabe You" for the most part, so I'm not sure how awkward it is reading it. You can make that assumption, but in this case, it's wrong, sadly to say. The original text has no such acronym of RTB. It is possible the chinese translator used it, or it is possible Drey added it in himself. Also, any acronym in MKnR is explained in full terminology at least once. Since RTB is only ever used once in the entire text, there is no particular reason to believe it was in the original. Nothing in particular. I was originally starting with Anki and Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji" to start off, but I stopped doing that. It's actually quite a good method, but since I was trying to read Light Novels anyway, I ended up spending a lot of time just picking out kanji and looking them up in dictionaries. I would highly recommend the Anki (flashcard program) and Heisig method, but it takes two years or so depending on how much time you invest every day. I plan on returning to it eventually, but that will probably only be when I've gotten through the LNs I really want to read.

Another method I considered was to make my own, physical flash cards. Go to the wiki "Kanji by Stroke Count" page and start there. Write the symbol on one side and put the pronunciation, 1 or 2 meanings (they're usually very similar anyway), and the stroke count. Though it is more methodical and includes stroke count + pronunciation (Heisig's only includes meaning), it doesn't offer helpful stories to remember the kanji like you might see in the former method. Heisig's is a good method for reading, but since you don't know what the pronunciation is, it does crap for your ability to speak the language.

If you're looking to read, then Anki + Heisig works well. If you plan to speak, consider Rosetta Stone or a similar program (I gave this a try and just found it somewhat annoying. Very good, but very annoying). If you're looking to do both, it might be best to go for the self-made flashcard route.
Really, it's up to you to decide. There are plenty of methods you can find online, just find one that suits you and tailor it to the time you can offer to it. I can't read Japanese. I'm in the process of learning. I've had katakana/hiragana down for a long time, and I have a rough grasp of what is being said when I hear Japanese, but I can't read it. The grammar is something that can be picked up by reading, but what I lack most is probably vocabulary, which is why I'm focusing on kanji for now (I've been using my LN method for a month and a half now, or something like that?). Since I've been doing this in my free time, I'm getting a whee bit better, but I still think the machine translation is a better interpretation than my own. What I released was primarily the machine translation; I just went through on my own beforehand purely for the sake of learning. I doubt anything I ever "translate" will be anything but a machine translation until I can read without referring to the dictionary for every sentence. Even if it does get to that point, I may very well be too tired of doing all this to properly translate anything for the wiki.

This LN method may be far more time consuming than other methods I mentioned, but it's enjoyable for me. It lets me compare my own interpretation to a (sadly) more accurate machine translation. Even if I don't actually learn anything, I can continue the next day because it is enjoyable. I think one of the biggest reasons people say "I can't read Japanese/Chinese" is because they have an interest, they give learning the language a try, and then they give up after a few days. Language isn't something so simple to learn that you'll pick up a few words here or there in a few days. They don't find it enjoyable and quit; I'm no different. I've been down this path 3 or 4 times, and I've only got hiragana and katakana down to show for it (and sometimes I have to check those as well, if I'm having a brain fart).

I will say this again. This will require a lot of time, no matter what method you choose, so do one you can devote time to (the Anki/Heisig Method is good if you can give it an hour or two a day, every day, since it's good for review). It takes a child approximately 4 years to properly learn how to speak (birth to age 4) during a period of rapid mental growth (which none of us have now) in an environment conducive to learning (they're constantly in an area where the language is being spoken). Read line by line. If confusing, read sentence by sentence. If confusing, read fragment by fragment (between punctuation).

Keep things in the back of your mind, so if you find something that differs from what you read earlier, recheck both portions and compare.

Attempt to keep things coherent on at least a page by page basis. If it doesn't make sense in one line, chances are you fucked up somewhere else.

As for how long it takes, no idea. My schedule now is different from my schedule before. Since I attempt to read myself, I catch some of the kanji errors that occur from ABBYY Fine Reader, but my pace is probably 2-3 pages an hour at most (for Vanadis, since my vocabulary is a bit more geared towards it, maybe I can double that on a good pace). "Electron" was written in hiragana/katakana, instead of kanji, so it was not a mistake. Remember, the energy used for nuclear fusion is used to force the nuclei together, but the electrons are left floating on their own, exerting their own repulsive forces, which is why it is called electron repulsive forces. While I can't be 100% sure, I have translated this passage twice, using google/atlas for the web novel, and a dictionary for the light novel. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_fusion#Requirements, the "primary obstacle for thermonuclear power" that Suzune is talking about should be the repulsive electrostatic force between positively charged protons. Nuclear fusion involves bringing the two protons together and fuse them to form helium nuclei, and this involves very short distances that I don't think the free electrons will come to play at all. Also, it has been a while since I took chemistry, but I think the term "ionized electron" doesn't make any sense. Ions always refer to the atomic nucleus that has lost or gained electrons so that the whole become positively/negatively charged. So, if we are strictly following the physics, I believe it should be changed to protons. But if that is what is in the original raw, I guess it is more important to maintain translation accuracy?

It is possible the author used "Electron Repulsive Forces" because "Electric Repulsive Forces" does not quite exist in the Japanese language, or because that phrase would refer to a more electricity type phenomenon than an atomic one. It is also possible he uses the term as an all-encompassing one, including both the forces from the nuclei and the electrons. If you read further down in the requirements section of the wiki page (geh, I hate referring to wiki, but it's the easiest to find and understand resource), there's mention that removing electrons requires much less energy than fusing the nucleii together, and other electrons are released due to the instability of the atom, which provides enough energy to overcome the energy barrier required for fusion to occur. Assuming this is the case, there would be a mass of electrons floating about, which could also pose a problem, since their repulsive forces should theoretically be about the same as the nuclei repulsive force (coulomb's law is dependent on charge and distance, not mass).

Anyway, I'm ending it here now. It's a pointless conversation, I think. I feel the author tries to be as accurate as possible to the science, but the explanation is a bit too vague for such a complicated topic (despite how many pages he spends talking about it) to really say anything one way or the other :(

Double 7 is in Dengeki Bunko or whatever that magazine is. So far, the first 2 segments (I guess chapters 0-6) have been released, and it is 2nd year as you say. It's an unedited portion and "spoiler free," so it's more akin to the web novels. Awesome job Dreyakis, its getting exciting with each chapter release. however, in my personal opinion, i'm not that hyped about the story spanning over two volumes. In the previous arcs i felt the transition to the next volume didn't go over so well, hell i'm still lamenting about the enrollment arc. that being said the author did improve with the nine-schools arc. maybe the author will surprise us this time. great story anyways. share your thoughts. I had the feeling that he took his time with this chapter. But that is kinda good, because sometimes i get the bad feeling that he works to much for us and even then he is still so fast that you can by no means complain (still one of the fastest translators I seen till now) (not that we have a right to complain anyway).

Indeed. It's difficult not to appreciate just how fast and capable both Drey and zzhk are. Even given a masterful command of both English and Chinese, there's a lot of cross-referencing that has to happen when you're not translating straight from the Japanese text. The fact that they're both efficient ''and'' consistent is just staggering.

I think you should add Js06 to the list of one man army translators as well. Sure, he takes longer when translating other LNs, but when a new To Aru Majutsu no Index volume comes out, he can finish the LN in about a week or so with daily updates. I'd have to say no matter what Drey chooses to do, he'll be somewhat screwed over. If he puts an ETA, fewer people will probably harass him about when he'll be finished, but if he's "late" for this "deadline," little pissants will show up again; however, if he decides to keep the ETA omitted, he'll probably just have all the other little peons messaging him or posting on this user talk about when the next chapter will be finished.
