== Story Synopsis ==

Baccano is a light novel written by Ryogo Narita with illustrations by Katsumi Enami. "Baccano", which author Narita translates as "stupid commotion", is Italian for "ruckus". Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control - Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together, creating a world straight out of the movies.

Baccano is a light novel written by Ryogo Narita with illustrations by Katsumi Enami. "Baccano", which author Narita translates as "stupid commotion", is Italian for "ruckus". You asked why I didn't translate 'Chinese mafia' as 'Triad'. What I actually wanted to put in was 'drug dealers, the Chinese Triad, the Russian Mob, human smugglers'. However, Firo specifically talks about people labelling everything as 'Mafia', and the Epilogue chapters are meant to carry a more 'Japanese' feel... You'll notice I translate 'Chinese-dress' as qipao later on XD

Ermazing: Some of these have to go. While it isn't exactly a huge priority, it should probably get done. I found some sites [http://www.oop-ack.com/manga/soundfx.html here] and [http://jpsfx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page here] just now that should make things easier, I think. I haven't really checked them out.

Elkin: Lots of SFX in novels are fairly intuitive, unlike manga. They're onomatopoeia, so I hesitated about converting them. One question is whether to integrate them into the text (e.g. the shower of items clattered onto the desk) or to keep them separate (e.g. the items showered onto the desk- ''crash clatter'').

Ermazing: I think we should integrate them into the text. The onomatopoeia use is normal in Japanese, since sometimes the verb itself becomes the sound effect, but in English, if it has a word, it just sounds better.

Elkin: Cool, let's do that then. Rather busy atm though- can you do it?

Also, I'm thinking of changing his name to Ronny. More sinister name, no? Demon doesn't strike me as someone particularly frivolous.

-Yeah, I think Ronny looks better. It's hard to translate from light novels sometimes because they're so utterly Japanese, like when they switch from kana to kanji, hiragana to katakana on purpose, and there's no way to translate that...
