Normally in english when a non-character narration occurs (ie: when the narration is not done by one of the characters, in IS' case Ichika, Houki, etc) the tense used is past tense, got, was, were, had, etc (of course there are exceptions). I think you should leave it as it is. I had to go through everything and change the non-character narration from present to past tense. It was tough work. Character Narration is another story, it can be in past, present or future tense depending on the circumstances. In lue of what u said, there might be consistency but grades refer to those who still persue their schooling while 'year' is only for those persuing degree courses. Though after 10th it is said that college has started, grade system still applies there. Changing grade to year will compltely diviate from the timeline. Actually, ''''Year'''' is used quite commonly outside of Canada and the U.S. for primary and secondary education. Using the term ''''high school 1st/2nd/3rd year'''' would actually be the least ambiguous. Especially for English readers outside the U.S. who are not acquainted with the 12 grade system (Britain's system goes to Year 13, for example, while Ontario schools in Canada only moved to 12 grades in recent years.) That said, there's nothing wrong with calling high school seniors 12th graders since Japan does have a 12 year system. Just slightly jarring to people who think of high school graduating at Grade 13. Perhaps a translation note in the first volume when the main character starts school would suffice.

Officially dropping the edits for DxD. I began to start back up today but as I looked at what I had previously edited, there just lacks a continuity in the decision for the tense choices between the other editors. First, i want to thank you for your work. I am a great fan of the Monogatari-series and have just finished reading the novel of "Kizumonogatari: Koyomi Vamp". Of course I wish to continue reading it. I noticed that after the novels of "Nekomonogatari", the following novels aren't yet completely translated (wich, of course, is to be expected). Therefore i would like to know how things are progressing with this series. Basically meaning, can I expect that the chapters and novels will be translated soon (one at a time of course), or is the progress-rate of it rather slow.

I apologize for asking such a bold question and hope you understand it as just pure curiosity of a fan who, sadly, doesn't understand japanese, and therefore has to wait for a translation.

Pants are essentially trousers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trousers) which are an item of clothing that covers from the waist to ankles while covering each leg separately. Pants would include cloth to cover her legs with and be much longer.

Sorry for the trying to make it more readable to the English speakers and readers at large. I really like the anime! It is what brought me here. Translation is more subjective than objective, as words have more than one meaning, even in Japanese. I also have the use of iSpell, a spell checker, browser enabled. Aside from typos, that I don't catch, my English is excellent, and differs from the tripe below. Meaning, nuance, proper tense, knowing the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're' is not caught by many. For proper continuity of topic with in a sentence or combining into a better paragraph. As you have it now, each line is a paragraph. So if you would issue some better guidelines as to the structure i.e. novel-style, screen-type, play-type, or ..., post it My talk, I'll be happy to do my best to edit to that criteria. Somehow,I hope you'll allow for some terminology to be in to english. It's kinda difficult to read if one wasn't versed in
Japanese. Especially stuff like 'oppai' and 'bishoujo', which do not have any connotations and sounds wierd in the sentences(e.g 'grope oppai' just sounds disjointed). I'd understand for Maou, Senpai, Kouhai, lolicon and endings though.

Edited the topic title to ask how should we go about the names of the characters. Now that we have more translators on the move, naming issues are bound to come around. I found a couple of them and wanted to know if we should just leave them as the translator for the respective volume suggests or if we should stick with the naming given by you, the project administrator. Hyoudu Issei is the official name that we are using on Baka-Tsuki, correct? And every one of Issei's friends and family (such as Bucho) call him by his nickname Ise, correct? Yeah, that's right. We keep the original Japanese name for the characters. So we also use -san, -chan, and -sama suffix is well. So just like you said it's Hyodou Issei but his nickname is Ise and everyone in the club calls him that.

I really think we should create a Project-Specific Guidelines: Format, Names, and Terminology (similar to the one Toaru no majustsu has)for this project soon. More characters are being introduced as it is being translated so we should have a consensus on the names of the other characters besides the main cast. Oh yes. The anime ED spelled her name as "Grayfia". Also Reyville was wrong is well so it's "Ravel", again from anime ED.

No. Senpai is the correct one and Sempai is wrong. Some non-Japanese people hear it as sempai so they mistook it and started to think that is the actual term. Even still, majority of non-Japanese people uses "Senpai'. 'Senpai' is the actual and proper term, not Sempai.

Wondering since you translated most of Highschool DxD. What exactly is Kiba's Scared Gear? The sword handle or does it reside in him?

Well his Sacred Gear abilities allows him to create swords. Saying that he can recreate sword from the sword handle he is holding to and also even create a whole new sword. He can even create the sword on his foot.

Translation is more subjective than objective, as words have more than one meaning, even in Japanese. I also have the use of iSpell, a spell checker, browser enabled. Aside from typos, that I don't catch, my English is excellent, and differs from the tripe below. Meaning, nuance, proper tense, knowing the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're' is not caught by many. Somehow,I hope you'll allow for some terminology to be in to english. It's kinda difficult to read if one wasn't versed in
Japanese. Especially stuff like 'oppai' and 'bishoujo', which do not have any connotations and sounds wierd in the sentences(e.g 'grope oppai' just sounds disjointed). I'd understand for Maou, Senpai, Kouhai, lolicon and endings though.

Yeah, that's right. We keep the original Japanese name for the characters. So we also use -san, -chan, and -sama suffix is well. So just like you said it's Hyodou Issei but his nickname is Ise and everyone in the club calls him that.

No. Senpai is the correct one and Sempai is wrong. Some non-Japanese people hear it as sempai so they mistook it and started to think that is the actual term. Even still, majority of non-Japanese people uses "Senpai'. 'Senpai' is the actual and proper term, not Sempai.

Hello. I would like to start translating Highschool DxD on Serbian. Some of mine friends really got interested in anime and they want to read about it. Wondering since you translated most of Highschool DxD. What exactly is Kiba's Scared Gear? The sword handle or does it reside in him?

Well his Sacred Gear abilities allows him to create swords. Saying that he can recreate sword from the sword handle he is holding to and also even create a whole new sword. He can even create the sword on his foot.

Since the other editors said OK to my request to help, I would still like to. I'm not looking to edit with intent to adapt to english like I know someone will eventually but I'd like to help proofread and fix some of the grammer in the unadapted sections. Budilica s glasom tsundere(ne znam sta je, nije Engleska riječ) čija je zadaća da probudi osobu, ali nažalost nije mogla probuditi svog vlasnika. Taj „vlasnik“ mrmlja na podu jer je ispao iz kreveta. To bi bio ja. To je bio užasan san…. Opet sam sanjao taj užasan san. U posljednje vrijeme stalno sanjam jedno te isti san. San u kojem me Yuuma-chan ubije. No, budući da sam još živ, to je sigurno bio san.

„Ise! Probudi se!“

Mamin glas se čuo od dolje, kao i svako jutro.

„Znam,znam! Budan sam!“

Nakon što sam joj odgovorio, usto sam se s poda.

Haa…

Izgleda da mi je dan loše započeo. Ne osjećam se dobro....

Napravio sam veliki uzdah dok sam oblačio svoju uniformu.

Izašao sam iz kuće zijevajući. Tijekom hoda u školu, ne mogu si pomoć da ne zažmirim zbog sunca.

O bože, tako je naporno. U zadnje vrijeme mi sunce zadaje loš osjećaj. Sunčana svijetlost kao da mi probada kožu, nepodnošljivo je. U svakom slučaju mi jutarnja svjetlost smeta i ne mogu se probuditi ujutro.

Otkako se ne budim, majka me u zadnje vrijeme dođe probuditi. Umjesto toga, noću, postajem „jači“. Nešto u meni se noću probudi i čini me napetim. U potpunosti sam postao „noćna“ osoba. Čudno, nešto ne štima. Često ostajem budan do kasno u noći, ali bilo bi „čudo“ da mogu ostat budan do 1 sat ujutro. Ali u zadnje vrijeme s lakoćom mogu ostat budan, čak i do 4 sata ujutro. U zadnje vrijeme idem spavat nakon što izađe sunce, i to mi je bila dnevna rutina. Nisam ovisan o online igrama niti sam ovisan o noćnim programima. Što se dešava mom tijelu? Zar moj mozak pokušava ne spavat da ne bi morao sanjati kako me moja cura ubije? Pa to je samo moj osobni osjećaj, pa to ne može biti to. Prirodno je za tijelo da osjeća potrebu za spavanjem.

Osjećaj noću je u potpunosti drukčiji od prije. Da bi isprobao, otišao sam van noću i brzina hodanja mi je bila brža i srce mi se trese radošću kada zađem u tamne prostore noću. Potrčao sam noću, a na moje iznenađenje dalo mi je nevjerojatnu brzinu. Ako bih se pridružio trkaćima, s lakoćom bi postao najbolji.

Mogu čak i odraditi čitav maraton kao da brzo hodam i uopće ne gubim snagu. Postao sam samouvjeren i kada sam otišao trčati ujutro, lagano sam izgubio snagu. Bila bi prosječna brzina za gimnazijalca, ali postoji velika razlika između „noć-ja“ i „dan-ja“. Postanem čudan noću. Zvuči kao izraz od čudaka, ali navečer se promijenim u drugu osobu.

Ahgg… Sunce je još uvijek jako. Za razliku od noću, postanem totalno „slab“ tijekom dana. Bez obzira koliko na to mislio, nešto sigurno ne štima s mojim tijelom. Nakon spoja s Yuuma-chan, ne mogu si pomoći da ne razmišljam o tome kako mi se tijelo promijenilo.

===Treći dio===

Školu koju pohađam je privatna škola, Kuou Akademija. Prije je škola bila samo za djevojke, ali sada prima oba spola. Tako da je omjer djevojaka veći od dječaka, ali kako godine prolaze tako se i povećava broj dječaka. No, u cjelini, ima više djevojaka u odnosu na dječaka. Pohađam 2. godinu, a u mom razredu omjer djevojaka naprema dječacima je 7:3. Za studente 3. godine omjer je 8:2. Čak i sada cure imaju veći autoritet i većina članova Studentskog Vijeća su djevojke, čak i predsjednik škole je žensko. To je škola u kojoj dječaci ne mogu raditi što god htjeli, ali ja sam se pridružio u ovu školu. Jednostavno je. Ovo mjesto ima više djevojaka, i to je predivna stvar. Govorilo se da je teško upasti u ovu školu, ali ja sam upao zahvaljujući mojim lošim namjerama, što je da učim dok sam okružen djevojkama. Samo zbog tog razloga, trenutno pohađam ovu školu.

Što je krivo s tim!? Zašto bi bilo loše biti napaljeni momak!? To je moj život! Nitko nema pravo mi proturječiti! Napraviti ću harem u ovoj školi! I to mi je bio zadatak kada sam upao u ovu školu. Ali sada se osjećam potišteno. Pošto tu ima puno djevojaka, mislio sam da ću s lakoćom imat 2 ili 3 cure.

Bio sam u krivu. Samo je jedna grupa zgodnih dječaka popularna, a djevojke mene neće ni pogledati. Da budem precizniji, ignoriraju me kao da sam smeće koje leži na podu. Sranje! Ovo mi nije bilo u planu! To ne može biti! U mom planu, trebao sam dobiti curu čim sam ušao u školu! Nakon toga prekinuo bih s njom i počeo bi izlaziti s novom djevojkom, i tako dalje. I do trenutka kada diplomiram, hrpe djevojaka bi se trebale boriti preko mene u Battle Royale-u. U ovom slučaju, moj cilj će biti samo san. Čekaj, je li već postao san!? Što je krivo!? Doba u kojem sam rođen? Ili nešto ne štima sa mnom….?Ne….! Ne želim razmišljati o tom! O ovom razmišljam svaki dan.

Stigao sam u svoj razred dok sam pravio veliki uzdah, te sam sjeo na svoju stolicu.

„Hej, prijatelju. Kako ti se svidio pornić koji sam ti posudio? Bio je poprilično dobar, zar ne?“

Momak koji je došao pričati sa mnom ima ćelavu glavu i najbolji mi je prijatelj: Matsuda. Na prvi pogled izgleda kao sportaš, ali je zapravo perverzan tip koji svaki dan kaže spolno uznemirujuće komentare. Tijekom osnovne škole bio je izvanredan sportaš i postavio je nekoliko rekorda ali sada je u klubu za slikanje. Želi slikati cure iz svakog kuta, zato ima nadimak „Perverzni Ćelavac“ i „Seksualno Uznemiravajući Paparazzi“.

„Hmm, vjetar je bio poprilično jak ujutro, zar ne? Zahvaljujući tome uspio sam pogledati par ženskih gaćica.“

Momak s naočalama, koji glumi da je cool je moj drugi najbolji prijatelj: Motohama. Njegove naočale imaju sposobnost koja mu omogućuje da dobije brojčanu vrijednost mjerenja djevojaka. Njegov nadimak je „Perverzne naočale“, i „BWH kalkulator“. Ova dvojica su moji prijatelji. Zaista, svaki put kada ih pogledam osjećam se kao „gubitnik“.

„Dobio sam neke lijepe stvari.“

Matsuda je izvadio hrpu neprikladnih magazina i DVD-ova iz torbe, i stavio ih na moj stol bez oklijevanja.

„Heee!“

Čuo se mali vrisak djevojke s drugog kraja učionice. Pa, to bi bila normalna reakcija, pošto nešto poput „ovog“ se događa ujutro.

„Bolesna derišta.“

„Umrite prljave zvijeri!“

Prateći vrisak, dolazilo je mnoštvo negativnih komentara od strane djevojaka.

„Tišina! Ovo je naša zabava! Djevojke i djeca ne bi trebala gledati i držati se daleko! Inače ću vas sve silovati u svojoj mašti!“

Kao i uvijek, lijep seksualno uznemiravajući govor, Matsuda-kun. Nedavno, rekao bi: „Wow, odakle ti ova blaga!“ s blistavim očima. Ali pošto sam u zadnje vrijeme u užasnom stanju ujutro, nemam volje za deranjem o tome. Matsuda je napravio uzdah dok je gledao u moje lice.

„Što je s tobom? Toliko puno blaga je ispred tebe a tvoj izraz lica je „dosadan“.“

„Što nije uredu s tobom? U zadnje vrijeme nisi svoj. Definitivno je čudno.“

Motohama je također komentirao dok je dirao svoje naočale.

„I ja se želim uzbuditi sa svim tim, ali u zadnje vrijeme nemam energije da se uzbudim.“
