About vol 1 chapter 7 of kamimemo
When Alice says that "the pain of a hikkomori is En extension of the Exponentional function she is talking about math. Simply put; the longer along the x value something is, the higher the y value would become. In Alice case x:time, y;pain. 10 -potence and logarithmic scale are other examples of this.
Basically she is saying that it hurts more the longer she is outside.
Here is a very simple example
About Hina's speech is it ”Hina wants…… Mnn~ Erm~ Hanburg steak!” or ”Hina wants…… Mnn~ Erm~ Hamburg steak!”? (Volume 2, Chapter 5) I do realize that Hina can't pronounce words like the rest of the cast in Papakiki, but is it true in this case as well? It's not a typo, actually Hanburg and Hamburg in Japanese are the same.. You're given free rein to complete the later volumes (except for NT Vol 2, since I don't know how many people will be 'crazy' enough to do that), including the incomplete ones. The other translators won't be working on it anyway.

Also, I might recruit you to do some of the earlier volumes (after the later volumes are complete). Nah, just kidding. I'll prefer that you work on the other side stories first, but that's your choice.--Teh Ping 10:14, 22 May 2011 (UCT)

I can't answer you through PM, so I'll just post this here. I've unlocked all the chapters for volume 1, except for prologue and afterword which you did. You can redo the other chapters, including chapter 1 and epilogue which I did. Just remember that people are also complaining about poor translations from 7-13, and I did 7-11. At the worst case scenario, you'll be asked to retranslate 7-13. (And as for the consistent translations thing, there's NT1 and NT4.) Bottom line, just tell me what needs rework, and I'll see if we'll proceed with the Index retranslations.--Teh Ping 23:18, 9 May 2012 (CDT)

For now, I'm really only considering 1 and maybe 12-13 after that. What I'm mainly concerned about are accuracy issues since they can't be corrected in editing, and from what I've seen of your translations, that isn't really an issue. Also, I'm not really too concerned with the consistency issue for NT. I'm only stressing it with 1 because people have brought it up and because I like the idea of having the 1st book a lot of people read in the series read as nice as possible. Js06 23:46, 9 May 2012 (CDT)

Can't argue with that. Good to have a good start. Ah, and tell those guys on 4chan that I'll be redoing 12 and 13, starting from June.--Teh Ping 23:49, 9 May 2012 (CDT)
Square Brackts for [GROUP]?
Hey Js06. I've been editing the previously-translated parts of Volume 15, and I was wondering: Joay left a lot of terms in brackets like [GROUP] and the like. Should I just remove all of those? Also, if you can, please check some sentences that I've commented on to make sure they stay close enough to the original: I was kinda grasping at straws when trying to make them make sense in English. CarVac 21:49, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

The brackets around GROUP were probably meant to emulate the Japanese-style quotation marks 『』 used in the novels, but they aren't really necessary. The Japanese like to put things in quotation marks to distinguish them in the same way capitalizing the word is sometimes used in English (e.g. Esper names like Meltdowner and AIM Stalker are put in quotes in the novels.) I used to puts things in quotes excessively in my translations because I was copying the Japanese usage, but I stopped recently.
I'll look over the changes you mentioned later today. Thanks for your work. --Js06 22:23, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Present Tenses vs. Past Tense?
Looking at your SS2 translations, I realized that you're doing them in past tense as opposed to present tense like you use in the other novels. Is the original material in past tense, or did you decide to start using more past tense? I do understand that the stories seem to have occurred before volume 16; is that why they're in past tense? It sounds more natural this way, but do we need to keep consistency with the other novels? CarVac 16:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Hello Js06! :)

I'm [mailto:dorothy@marheavenj.net Dorothy], nice to meet you!
I'm sorry to bother (and forgive me for my bad English), I'm writing because I have a question about Kakine Teitoku (from Toaru Majutsu no Index vol.15)'s phrase...
I was updating a site I dedicated to him and writing his profile, I found a difficult...
The phrase is ムカついたかよ、チンピラ , so, could "mukatsuita" be intended as "you pissed me off"? I always found it translated as "that hurt", but isn't it more like "You offended me" that "you pissed me off?"? I'm confused about it... and I'm not an expert of Japanese, so I prefered to ask to you! >_< Thank you so much for your job, you really are a manna from heaven!! :) 1:22, 08 June, 2012.

You are correct. ムカついた is the past tense of the verb ムカつく which (in common usage) means "to be irritated" or "to be pissed off". - Js06 19:34, 7 June 2012 (CDT)
Hi Js06, thanks for your translation of Heavy Object. Thank you. :D Zakashi 04:44, 22 July 2012 (CDT)
Hello. I guess it's about time, the progress has has reached that far, so... Would you like me to create a Heavy Object Nav template like I have for many other projects? I've implemented the new nav template and optimized your text for the web (thus reducing total size of the pages). Now with the new template the navigation has levelled up (it'll be much smoother now) and with the removal of all that waste space the pages will load much faster. Hey Js06. I have a request. Can I change the formatting of the "(whisper/mutter)" to <span style="color:DimGray">"whisper/mutter"</span> or <span style="color:DarkSlateGray">"whisper/mutter"</span>. The format is better that way since the DimGray or DarkSlateGray color gives the feeling that the person is speaking in a low voice as compared to the normal black color. Plus, brackets inside speech marks is somehow wierd. So, can I? Zero2001 - Talk - 09:57, 19 September 2012 (CDT)

Yeah but english never puts brackets in speech marks. Normally they <small>smallify</small> the text but the readers don't like it when I try that, so I thought this would be the next best thing. Don't you agree? Zero2001 - Talk - 20:52, 19 September 2012 (CDT)

Another option would be to use a different font but there is no guarantee that everyone will have that font, unless it's a default font installed with the OS. Dulling the color is the best option. Zero2001 - Talk - 22:15, 19 September 2012 (CDT)

The best option is respecting the choices made by Js06 himself, which he chose to follow author's format. And thank you very much Js06, for your great contributions towards B-T. -- BeginnerXP (Talk) 01:51, 20 September 2012 (CDT)
First let him decide, please. If he wants it to stay as is then that's fine. I will respect his wishes. Zero2001 - Talk - 02:52, 20 September 2012 (CDT)

Besides I thought the following of the author's format was only for em-dashes(—). I don't think we need to completely go overboard for everything. Please don't do that. Zero2001 - Talk - 02:59, 20 September 2012 (CDT)

The Japanese don't often put brackets in speech marks either, and I've yet to read books which smallify text(unless you can give me an example?). Actually, I'll probably write to the publisher scolding them for spoiling my eyes if they did, and not ever buy books published by them ever<!--this redundancy is on purpose--> again. Though I'm interested in reading it, I don't even have time to do so at the moment, so asking for translations is......<!--This incomplete sentence is on purpose--> --Pryun - Talk 05:05, 20 September 2012 (CDT)

Just my personal opinion here as a reader, I think the current format the translator uses is good enough, I think that most readers can easily get the context of the speech being thought, whispers etc. from inferring or the context has already been mentioned in the text. Zakashi (talk) 05:16, 20 September 2012 (CDT)

No actually, I've read it and there are parts where there is no mention that it is going to be a whisper/mutter except for the brackets. But Js06 is the one to decide, since he's the one translating it. If he has no problem with it then it's fine. Hey...why don't we put the chapter 'Revenge Knight' after the chapter 'Vol 03 Life 2' instead of before it. Then it will match the scenario better. --Chancs 15:05, 15 January 2012 (CST)

I don't know. That is why 'am asking him about this. But at present, the chapter no where matches after the 'Life 1' chapter. If read the part 8 of chapter 'Life 2' and the 'Revenge knight', it becomes clear. I can only speculate that there might be some publicatn mistakes etc. Well, it will depend on the supervisor. --Chancs 22:54, 15 January 2012 (CST)
Japanese Terminology?
Somehow,I hope you'll allow for some terminology to be in to english. It's kinda difficult to read if one wasn't versed in
Japanese. Especially stuff like 'oppai' and 'bishoujo', which do not have any connotations and sounds wierd in the sentences(e.g 'grope oppai' just sounds disjointed). I'd understand for Maou, Senpai, Kouhai, lolicon and endings though.

P.S. editing is painful-thank god there are other editors around --Pryun 02:30, 20 January 2012 (CST)

The word "Oppai" is one of the theme of this series so I want to leave it as it is since there will be lots of terminology relating to it appearing afterwords.

All right... but maybe you could ref oppai for those who don't know the meaning? Just in case. -- Pryun 18:58, 14 February 2012 (CST)

Was this written in hiragana? Judging from the description of the beast I'm pretty sure it would be better to spell it as Cerberus, but still wanted to ask if we are allowed to change it or if the author meant it that way. Ajmc93 23:12, 30 January 2012 (CST)

Yeah, you can change it to "Cerberus". I received some comments from others saying "Cerberus" is better.

Would Invisibility be better than Transparency? Also, did the author really use transparency pheromone? Pryun 08:12, 4 February 2012 (CST)

Well the name for one of the Excalibur is "Excalibur Transparency". I didnt translate it since the author named it like that.

K then, will keep it as is. Pryun 22:09, 10 February 2012 (CST)

Edited the topic title to ask how should we go about the names of the characters. Now that we have more translators on the move, naming issues are bound to come around. I found a couple of them and wanted to know if we should just leave them as the translator for the respective volume suggests or if we should stick with the naming given by you, the project administrator. For example: "Sazechs Lucifer" and "Grefilia" on Vol 4 life 1 or "Sirzechs Lucifer" and "Grafia" as previously introduced. - Ajmc93 17:13, 12 February 2012 (CST)

That's why I propose that we create a Project-Specific Guidelines: Format, Names, and Terminology for High school DxD (similar to the one Toaru no Majustsu has)for this project soon. I would say go with "Sirzechs" and "Grafia" since those are the standardized names. -Hiro Hayase 18:29, 12 February 2012 (CST)
Hyoudu Issei is the official name that we are using on Baka-Tsuki, correct? And every one of Issei's friends and family (such as Bucho) call him by his nickname Ise, correct? I would like to make fix this as soon as possible when I can confirm this with you, since the translation is a bit inconsistent with the names for Issei. -Hiro Hayase 19:47, 10 February 2012 (CST)

Yeah, that's right. We keep the original Japanese name for the characters. So we also use -san, -chan, and -sama suffix is well. So just like you said it's Hyodou Issei but his nickname is Ise and everyone in the club calls him that.

I really think we should create a Project-Specific Guidelines: Format, Names, and Terminology (similar to the one Toaru no majustsu has)for this project soon. More characters are being introduced as it is being translated so we should have a consensus on the names of the other characters besides the main cast. I would like your permission to create one if possible. You can modify it later too. -Hiro Hayase 14:54, 12 February 2012 (CST)

Looking back at the idea, it might be a better idea to create the character/terminology guidelines on a separate page other than the bottom of the character introduction. For now its alright since only 3 volumes are translated, but we may have to do it later. I'll do it for you now so we save the trouble. What do you think? Also, is it alright if I change "Isei Hyodo" to "Issei Hyodou" on the character introduction page, since most of the translations use that? Same with "Koneko Tojo" into "Koneko Toujou"? -Hiro Hayase 21:33, 13 February 2012 (CST)
That includes Koneko and Shidou. Also, I'm going to delete all the information from Azazel (アザゼル, Azazeru) to the bottom since we already have all that information in the other page. -Hiro Hayase 22:35, 13 February 2012 (CST)
In the aforementioned chapter, there is a sentence that is a bit weird. Let me quote it out:

[And I promise you all! I will show you the future which shines in True-Red light!]

The part with the 'True-Red' is probably inaccurate. The original text should be something like [真赤], which simply means crimson/red, and not 'True-Red'.
Volume 5?
Even though volumes 8,9,10,11,12.. are almost translated there are volumes 5,6,7 that are not translated and that kills or restricts to move on to the latest volumes. The effort of searching for other translated version was utterly destroyed due to the cheap or insufficient translator used to translate. This is my sincere request to show favorism towards the completion of volumes 5,6,7 PLEASE.
Firstly, I want to tell you that your translating speed is awesome. I greatly appreciates your work on High School DxD. As it is one of my favorite series.
There isn't many story lines which interests me weather it is a manga or LN. But High School DxD is definitely a series which i like whole heartily and thats why i want to thank you from the bottom my heart for translating it. Thank you very much. But there is one more series which attracted me before reading High School DxD and that is 'Kaze no stigma'. This was the first LN i read because it's story plot was entirely different. although this LN will never be completed because of the death of it's author but i still want to see it translated. The male protagonists of this series is my favorite character ever. I know its really mean to ask you about this but please consider my request of translating it whenever you have time. I also highly recommend the anime ;-)

An other really, really good story is Date A Live. The project already exists at BT but there isn't much progress... The LN also becomes animated this year. Maybe you could give it a try and read the first chapter - it's really funny :-)

Well Volume 5 is translated by Eternal Dreamer, and he is translating in a good pace. Volume 6 and 7, I probably can have them is next priority after volume 12. So I might do them in June then.
First of all: You Sir, are truly a legend! Thanks for your awesome work at DxD!

I would like to see you translating Accel World (project already exists) because it's also an very good LN like DxD with a very good plot and nice chars.

Anyway, thanks a lot :-)

Could you please translate 異空間 for me? - YoakeNoHikari 02:24, 25 December 2011 (CST)

It's a proper noun. It refers to a specific space, I think. - YoakeNoHikari 00:59, 26 December 2011 (CST)

I hadn't really looked at it before, but you did a really awesome job on the preface of Horizon. I hope it didn't take you too long to do it, after all, you've your own project to do too : ) - YoakeNoHikari 05:18, 2 January 2012 (CST)

Oh...That's a shame, I thought you made some really good corrections : ( - YoakeNoHikari 03:43, 3 January 2012 (CST)

The reason it's different dimensions there, is because you changed it from Differing Space. Different dimensions seems to imply that the Harmonic States is in another dimension of existence, which it isn't, it's just floating up there in the heavens, named ikuukan. - YoakeNoHikari 02:04, 10 January 2012 (CST)
Hello ^^

Hey, could you take a look at the Shana Volume 1 summary?

SkyFlames07 02:03, 24 May 2011 (UCT)

I will eventually get to it some day in the future. How long in the future that will be I cannot say. Maybe by then someone else would have taken a look at it already.

Don't worry, your summaries are quite understandable. There may be typos or slightly inaccurate uses of words here and there, but they do not affect the meaning that you are trying to convey. Regarding the structure of the summaries, I personally am horrible at summarizing things, that I found out in school, so it'd be best if you don't rely on me for that part ^^ jonathanasdf 02:33, 24 May 2011 (UCT)

Hey Jonathanasdf. Feel free to just edit as recklessly as you please, I have all the pages on my watchlist, so I immediately check any changes anyone makes. Most of the time I don't change anything back unless I feel really strongly about it, as I do make a fair amount of errors. I looked over the prologue discussion page (sweet Jesus that is a lot of hooplah over just one prologue) and I just wanted say some stuff about a few of your concerns. The Celtic Magic minors thing was a grievous mistranslation on my part. What confused me was the fact that minor was in katakana. Thanks for the correction. Also, about Honami's Kansai dialect thing, what I try to do to show that is make her more relaxed in her speaking style, like lots of contractions, shortcuts when speaking, etc. I don't think it's necessary to add a footnote alerting the reader to Honami's speech as I doubt anyone who doesn't know Japanese cares. Sorry about the "eh" thing. I had no idea it was specifically Canadian, I guess I just hear it more often since I live in Detroit? Also, your interpretation of the "If I didn't ask, I would still be a etc etc" line is better than mine, I think. Mine is a little confusing to read. Finally, I think Honami confirming her own equipment makes more sense too after reading your argument. Anyways thanks a bunch for helping to edit, it's always more fun when more people participate.--Amazing Buffalo 20:46, 4 June 2011 (UCT)
Hey, thank you very, very much for translating Date A Live. It's a very great story! But I saw that the latest update is from 26-Mar-2012 - do you still actively translate the novel? --MK13 12:19, 3 May 2012 (CDT)
