While it's true that Japanese people use nine characters (the four symbols on the fire buttons of a PlayStation controller plus upside-down triangle, both solid black and whiteout, except × [batsu], that's just two lines) as wildcards for censoring, the whiteout circle 〇 [maru] is used almost exclusively as a placeholder for letters (romaji, kana, kanji) and the very few instances of it with this intention are most likely to appear in horizontal script (still, the solid black version is preferred). The reason for this is that the symbol 〇 in a sequence of numbers is a help for writing numbers with kanji in the western system (i.e. the same that we take 1 and 4 to write 14, they use 一 and 四 to write 一四 instead of the usual 十四), meaning "0"; thus, 一〇 means 10 (though sometimes with 1 followed by 0es, it can appear erroneously as 十〇, 百〇〇, 千〇〇〇...). dear skullheart:
first of all i wish to thank you for your work so far on the kokoro connect translation project. you are doing a good and important job, and i am thankful for that.
secondly, a request: as a fan of kokoro connect who is no able to read the untranslated novels, i couldn't help but notice that the fifth volume of the series isn't translated yet, while the sixth volume is already half completed, and also some of the side-stories. thus, i wish to ask (beg if you wish) that after you complete your current translation project, you would consider helping to progress with the translation of the fifth volume, an action that would bring joy to the lives of every kokoro connect fan, including yours truly.
another humble (though i do not know if it really as easy to fulfill as i think and hope), is that the incredible crew of translators would take some of their valuable time to create a .MOBI version of the completed volumes, and by thus helping the owners of ebook devices to read the novels at greater ease.
and lastly, i wish to thank you once again for your amazing job, and only pray that the task of translating the series would continue easily and quickly

Reply: I'm sort of tied by the rules of this wiki since there are already two 'author' for volume 5 and one of them completed a chapter and they are using translation from Chinese Sources. For the side stories since they are inactive for so long I will finish them after volume 6 gets finished because they don't add to the plot that much except for pentagon++ which does say how the new members join. First, I want to start by thanking you for your work on Kokoro Connect. After that, I will be quite hesitant on asking, because I am unsure whether my request is possible (for a variety of reasons), but I wish to ask for the untranslated Japanese version of Kokoro Connect Chapter 1, Volume 1. Since you are the main Translator, I imagine you do have it. The reason for that, unfortunately isn't anything close to translation, since my knowledge is too limited... But I am currently learning, and I would like to have some good measure of my skills (which are currently undoubtedly minor), but my learning rate as well. I wish for that to be in a more official format, on the level of actual novel text, in order to know what I might face in the future (translating is a very interesting prospect for me). The reason I am hesitant, is because I am unsure of copyright restrictions on untranslated novel text (isn't really made clear on the forums, nor here), and whether you are allowed to distribute it as such. I would really be pleased if that was possible, since working on likeable content is always more motivating, and having a translation of it will probably work well too. If for some reason my request is unreasonable, I take it back, but would otherwise really be content with any amount of text I could get my hands on. Since I don't really need it for reading, but only as a sample, I don't need more than a chapter (though I wouldn't deny more). Of course any commercial use is out of the question. I look forward to getting a reply, positive or not.

Sorry, but I have it as a book and will not scan it and upload it. There might be one around the internet for raw light novels. There might differences between the translated version here and the actual japanese text because volume 1 was translated from the chinese translation and by someone else. But overall it is a lot better to read from the original. There is a lot of things that cannot be translated into english from japanese.

I see. Thank you very much for the response (and proof that the translation isn't completely abandoned, since you are present and do care about Baka-Tsuki notifications). I would only like to ask which part was translated directly from Japanese, in order to know which is the closest possible to the original, because even if there are some untranslatable parts, I want to be sure they are due to the Japanese form, and not some Chinese in-between. All of my translations are from the japanese and the chinese versions were never used. Some of the other translator used the chinese version and has a differences from the japanese version. Sorry, I don't have any of the pdf files for Kokoro Connect since I don't really read the translated version. I think the PDF may probably be copyright infringement so only way is to copy the text from the bakapage and make it into a pdf on words.

Is this project being translated to British English or American English? I've seen both in the translation so far. "Practice" is AE, and I've seen that used. But then there are things like "realise" which is clearly BE, as opposed to "realize" for AE. Heck, AE even uses such confusing things as "license" with an "s" at the end, yet BE would use "licence" with a "c" and um... suffice to say, I'm very confused now. The use of "nope" is also very common in your translation. It's fine in some areas, but it is a very informal way to say "no". The latest case of this, from Ch. 4:
The Literature club faced a life-and-death situation... '''nope''', the existence of the club...

I understand the difference (slightly). Nevertheless, the representation [The <X> of <person>] is bad writing style and has the 'same' meaning as possession since this representation is reserved for possessive ancient proper names ending in 'es' or 'is', e.g. the laws of Moses, the temple of Isis. You would need another way to represent this if you do not want to make it possessive. Otherwise, you have no choice but to add 's'. [[User:Pudding321|Pudding321]] 10:13, 15 August 2012 (CDT)

I suppose I should leave a message here for future editor's reference. Normally, I would agree that [<person>'s <X>] is better for possessive presentation. However, 5 out of 10 titles do not work out with that. Chapter 2 for example, compare version A) [Inaba Himeko's Valentine's Day] and version B) [The Valentine's Day for Inaba Himeko]. The two mean completely different things. The first merely puts the focus on somebody's 'Valentine's Day.' The notion of this version is 'What <person> did or encounter on Valentine's Day.' However, the latter puts the title in a whole different notion. It includes more about the <person> into the context. It becomes a lot more personal. This version raises the idea of 'What did Valentine's Day mean to <person>' If we used version A instead, it would completely lose that context. The same concept applies to Chapter 4, 7, 9 and Epilogue titles. Hence, the titles will stick to version B. Needless to say, the remaining 5 titles will conform to the 5 I discussed for consistency.

Hello, currently I don't think I have the say on this... yet. The previous translator who worked on Volume 2 Kizu Random, Pudding, has retired from the project. And the other translator s07195 who was also going to be working on Kizu has been MIA since the beginning of October. I have just announced on the forum thread today that, IF nobody picked up Kizu by the time I complete Pentagon++, I will be asking for permission to take over and complete that volume so the alternate language translators who work from English translations (I know the Spanish ones do, at least) can continue translating, as well as keeping the project's continuity. Pentagon++ will be the only part of Clip Time I plan to work on at the moment. So if you can bear with me for 128 pages, hopefully, I will have permission to continue it by then.

I'm sorry to say I cannot give an estimate date. I have taken up the Chinese translation of Yume Random because of its being repeatedly abandoned by translators and quite frankly I felt the impulsive... "urge" to complete it. It's gonna be at least over a month. Pentagon++ won't be completed until I finish that. Should I ever finish Pentagon++ in the future, I'll be wrapping up Kizu first before moving on to Nise. And that's only the plan. I cannot make any promises as I'm the only one left who's really keeping track of the project on both shores.

Feel free to edit if you like. I'll look over them from time to time so don't be afraid to do so. One thing though, if you want to do huge edits that changes a large, consecutive segment of a page, you might wanna leave the translator, in this case, Pudding and me, a message with your version of the edit first. Pudding is responsible for Vol.1 and whatever's available for Vol.2. While I'm responsible for Vol.3,4 and 4.5.

== General Translation From Japanese ==

Is there some kind of way to translate the words for I depending on the person and the ending particles into english. eg. 俺、あたし、アタシ、オレ、わたし. All the members of the StuCS use a different version of I. I'm starting to find that once it's translated to english it's losing a bit of the emotion I get from reading the japanese due to the lack of those ending particles in english. eg. よ、ぞ、etc.

Hi Guys, 
I really appreciate the work you have been doing, keep it up. However, I have noticed on several occasions where the past, present and future tenses have been mixed up. For example, Nagase will be talking in present tense and then part of the sentence will be written in past. It is still understandable, but I had to sit there for a while to work out exactly what it meant. 
Also, once again, if you are looking for an editor, I am all for it.

Regarding the spell error/wicked blade in V1C3, i believe spell error works better. However, it is up to you as to how it is properly translated. - Bzk

Spell Error is the reading, you can in fact call it the actual name, Wicked Blade is the writing. One should always read it as Spell Error. I only include the writing if it provides interesting and somewhat vital information that would be lost if only the reading is included. This is a style used by Kagami. I just haven't added a translation note yet. Well I forgot and will do it later. Even for Epee Rapier, he used Thrusting Blade and Slender Blade as the writing, but I didn't include those, because they are not interesting information to the plot; he did that for Epee Rapier so that Japanese people reading it can have an idea how it looks like, since they might be foreign to fencing swords. In other cases otherwise, there's a reason behind the multiple meanings, just like Vampire (Most Ancient Sorcerer). Not extremely important, but nevertheless interesting. To answer your question, no one? Well, it was pretty long ago, so please excuse me if I can't recall my exact thought processes at the time. I don't believe I knew that I was supposed to ask for permission with regards to the story synopsis at that point in time because I was still pretty new to BT then, and by the time I became "in the know" about project supervisors as well as the rules and regulations regarding the issues, it had completely slipped my mind.
What I wanted to do at that point in time was to improve the synopsis to how I felt it would be better, but it did not occur to me to actually ask for permission to do so then, so my sincere apologies for that. In addition, I did not know that it was actually that important a synopsis, I thought it was something akin to an introduction, if you will, to the story, just like those you see on normal wiki pages or on manga reading websites for example, so my thoughts were to make the flow better.

I now understand that it was a wholly mistaken assumption of mine that changing it like that would be better, as you mentioned that it is best to keep it as close to source material as possible.

Regarding the spell error/wicked blade in V1C3, i believe spell error works better. However, it is up to you as to how it is properly translated. - Bzk

Spell Error is the reading, you can in fact call it the actual name, Wicked Blade is the writing. One should always read it as Spell Error. I only include the writing if it provides interesting and somewhat vital information that would be lost if only the reading is included. This is a style used by Kagami. I just haven't added a translation note yet. Well I forgot and will do it later. Even for Epee Rapier, he used Thrusting Blade and Slender Blade as the writing, but I didn't include those, because they are not interesting information to the plot; he did that for Epee Rapier so that Japanese people reading it can have an idea how it looks like, since they might be foreign to fencing swords. In other cases otherwise, there's a reason behind the multiple meanings, just like Vampire (Most Ancient Sorcerer). Not extremely important, but nevertheless interesting. And that's where the manga translation failed; everyone who has read that including reviewers thought that this is just another vampire story. While in truth, there's more to that. Kagami is a very prolific fantasy writer (well, he writes fast) and he has a love for epic-ness, and I can see Itsuten going well over 10 volumes; I won't be surprised if it goes over 20. ^_^ --[[User:Larethian|Larethian]] 15:40, 10 April 2011 (UCT)

To answer your question, no one? Well, it was pretty long ago, so please excuse me if I can't recall my exact thought processes at the time. I don't believe I knew that I was supposed to ask for permission with regards to the story synopsis at that point in time because I was still pretty new to BT then, and by the time I became "in the know" about project supervisors as well as the rules and regulations regarding the issues, it had completely slipped my mind.
What I wanted to do at that point in time was to improve the synopsis to how I felt it would be better, but it did not occur to me to actually ask for permission to do so then, so my sincere apologies for that. In addition, I did not know that it was actually that important a synopsis, I thought it was something akin to an introduction, if you will, to the story, just like those you see on normal wiki pages or on manga reading websites for example, so my thoughts were to make the flow better.

I now understand that it was a wholly mistaken assumption of mine that changing it like that would be better, as you mentioned that it is best to keep it as close to source material as possible.
