Hi, just a quick question to do with consistency sake. In volume 1 and 2, I noticed that knee socks nude was used, however in volume 3 naked knee-socks was used instead. I personally prefer the latter, but I would like to know which one would be the more generally preferred one before I make any changes. Well I don't want to complain since this translation is quite good, but in my opinion changing spirit to elemental is a mistake. Primo: no matter how you look at it seirei is definitely translated as (holy) spirit/ghost, if author would mean elemental he would use yousono or gensono (of course im no expert but thats what my dictionary says;) ). And another matter is that in most rpg systems elemental magic consist only of fire, water, air and earth, but here we have holy/light and darkness too and they're considered different system from 4 elements (or 5 if you prefer Chinese ones).

Your dictionary is using the wrong form of "elemental". 精霊 can easily mean "elemental", as in the fantasy creature. All an elemental is is a spirit of something in the first place, usually nature related but that depends on how the fantasy work in question defines it. So having light, darkness, and swords be part of the scheme, while unusual, is up to the author. Well, I'm only certain about the waffe part. I don't know how Elementare is pronounced but the author also uses Elemental Lord, which is English. It is July 25 due to the author getting sick so the released date became a month later. So we just got to wait for translations that will come soon.

Est did say that her curse would one day end Kamito; the same way it ended her original contractor, thus the reason why she was scared of herself. Kamito still accepted the fact though. The curse is mostly demon spirits, possibly armaments. I believe Est said something about absorbing the taint anyway, thus afflicting the contractor. Well, it may not be a leak but instead a preview. Some companies will release a chunk of a book in advance as a preview. Western books do something similar: sometimes at the end of one book in the series you get a chapter from the next book in advance. It is most likely due to translator facing RL problems since their other project has not been updated for some time as well. Or that complete raws have not come out( If they are translating from CN version which is first translated from JP to CN then translator translates CN to English ). It hardly matters whatever the case, you may think of it as the novel is yet to come out and come back later when it is updated?

Thus, we decided to include this note: This is a name that has been made from the pronunciation of her name. Pronunciation of it in jap is Pest. But since the author is playing with pronunciation and did not write Pest explicitly, the translator is also feinting ignorance and calling her Percher. Hmm... but according to the Japanese Wikipedia, <Yes! Everyday life in Little Garden> is considered as a "Short Story" of the series. Another thing is that the volume has nothing in relevance to the main plot of the series. It doesn't flow with the ending of Volume 8, so I think it should be put in another section instead. :From what I've seen, volume 8 ends with short stories, fact that ties directly with volume 9. Also, "Yes! Everyday life in Little Garden" is marked as the 9th volume in the book spine. The only other reason apart from it being a short story compilation (mentioned before the reason of why this doesn't mean a thing) to be marked as SS at wikipedia (and remember that wikipedia is made by the readers, not the author or the publisher) is that the cover has a pink frame instead of the usual white. Just to make note, Sneaker Bunko doesn't give this series's volumes numbers on its web, but "Yes! Leaving aside all the references to the "sixteenth day moon" throughout the series, Izayoi's true identity (and his Gift) are treated as a key point. At volume 5, the Saurian Demon King mentioned that he has the same body type as Sun Wukong and seemed to have guessed his true identity. Also, I've just noticed that Izayoi's motto of "The heavens did not create man above myself" is very similar to a quote credited to Sun Wukong. thx for the fast reply :)the ones in volume 1 seems good (the epub is not out yet so i've read it with the app). i've rechecked the illustrations for all the volumes and it seems that besides the volumes 2-5 the others are all HQ though in some volumes there isn't the "next volume preview" image (the ones with the chibi characters).

I think that it should have remained as Volume 9. The author published tem in that order and so I believe it should be read in that order. Like the stuff about Coppelia. The author has introduced these stories in this order and if you move them to below the rest of the novels it makes it feel like it isn't cannon and that they can be read after you finish all the other volumes.

If anything, I think this short story volume should be read before volume 8, it kinda ruins the mood the end of volume 8 had going for it and it all takes place before the events of volume 8 (at least from what I've seen of the first 3 chapters)

Yeah, but all the sellers over in Japan has the Short Story Volume separate from the other volumes. Since we want to follow the same order as them, we had to make the separate section for it. If it really bothers you that much, I can edit the navbar to display the volume between 8 and 9. Also, going from short story to main story back to short story would be a horrible order. On Infinite Stratos. Young Japanese women or school girls usually say "Ehhh~" just to sound cute or in a cutesy manner in Japanese society, especially in conversations between fellow woman/girls. So its better to keep them in most cases in IS. It's staying true to the author's original intent since "Whaaat" isn't very cute sounding for the most part, although it does fit in the sentence. Therefore, I suggest that we keep Ehhh~ the way it is unless there's a better alternative than "Whaaat" and "Huuuh" to replace "Ehhh~" in IS. Wouldn't keeping the Eh's be fine too, instead of replacing them with Huh or What? It doesn't really detract from the meaning as whole in the Light Novel, some english translation projects like Toaru no Majutsu just keep the "Eh" the way it is, and I know its not commonly used in many English novels, but the Eh's are not that big of an issue. “Ehh!? Ok i have been confused with the various pieces of info that keep coming out about IS, so i was wondering if someone can provide me some clarification, ok so the author had a disagreement with the publishing company and due to this a long hiatus, now the novels are being reprinted and will be released starting with the first two novels in April of 2013. The reprints will have new designs from the new illustrator, is that right so far? If i'm way off then please do point this out as right now i'm just trying to piece it all together, ok well lastly comes the big question that i'm wondering about, the current 7 volumes released of IS, is this reprint and change of company have anything to do with the content of the first 7 volumes? In other words when the supposed volume 8 comes out it will continue with the same story where it left off but just with different illustrations? Is the reprint changing the content itself or just the illustrations?

Just curious about the status on Infinite Stratos. Since volume 8 is planned to come out on April 25, I have no doubt our translators will be scrabling for a copy of the raws(a copy for reading, a copy for sharing and a copy for safe keeping), however will volumes 1-7 be reworked? I can't say I'm not interested in seeing the new artwork by CHOCO, but I' also aware of the extra time and effort it will take to go over the previous volumes and update the PDFs(not really, I've reread Mahouka 4 time before I knew it), and the time constraint of living life. Since the previous volumes will be releases on the 25th in the following months, I should be able secure my copies as well. ^_^

It's not our place to rush the translators, however I think at the least people should keep us in the loop and let us know if they are translating, if they plan to, if possible when they plan to, and if anything comes up that prevents them from translating that they let us know. Translating is hard and the people who translate are doing it for free so we can't be ungrateful and try to pressure them but I think translators could keep us up to date so we don't go insane checking the site every hour. I mean a quick sentence saying that their busy with life and will try and get back to it in whatever amount of time should not be too hard to do. Er, Omega. Though I certainly agree with you on some points, it should be noted that no translators have been marked as Active in this translation project since 9 came out, nor have any registered. That should be answer enough as to whether or not they're translating it or not. If a translator is interested in the project (which I admit to being hopeful for also), then naturally they will do so. So until somebody states they're gonna pick it up, you can only be patient about it. It's a popular enough series, I'm sure someone will get to it eventually. Also, helpful hint: hopefully you're not refreshing the IS page all the time. If you are, it may be more useful to you to keep the Recent changes page open and scan it for any IS updates. Sorry. It will lead to an Infinite Wait. Unfortunately for all of us who enjoy harem rom-coms, the author has inadvertently made Ichika into a measurable character meme. If you don't understand what I mean, just google for Ichika Dense Meter. I was laughing so hard when I found a scale used to compare other stories main male protagonists on a scale using Ichika as the worst. And sadly it's quite valid considering Ichika would rather them not get so close. As it stands with current "progress", I'd have to say that Chifuyu would be the first person he'd go for. LOL and that would likely be followed by Maya tied with Tatenashi. The rest are so frikkin' competitive that they constantly get in each other's way leaving the above mentioned three pretty much free passes to be close to him. But since we're talking about Ichika, it'll never happen until someone makes a serious, clear and repetitive confession to him. There's a very good explanation for why but that might take too much space, where as if you would chose to read them and see the parts regarding his childhood life, you'd see it pretty clearly why he's a rather dense, if not slightly effeminate, kind of guy.

For those of you who have read the LN, is it significantly better than it's anime counterpart? It's not like I hated the anime but how desperate the girls seemed to be to get after Ichika's d**k was a little annoying. Is it toned down a little in the novel? I understand that it's a harem series and so, to some degree, it's to be expected but I thought it was a bit much in the second season.

It's a harem series so it will always be like that. If nothing serious is going on and they go back to daily like the girls will be after Ichika. I mean think about it, if you were IN LOVE with someone wouldn't you spend the time trying to form a relationship with them and get them to fall for you rather than wasting time and doing nothing? Especially when someone else is after them? But as for your question, having watched the anime and almost caught up to it's point in the light novel, it will be more in the light novel. There will usually always be more of that in the light novel than in the anime. A scene in the anime could be twice or three times as long in the LN. But at the same time it's not overwhelming. And it applies to other parts like the action. Also the scenes might flow better and be clearer to you in the LN than in the Anime. I think you should really give it a try and read it. Hey Jonathanasdf. Feel free to just edit as recklessly as you please, I have all the pages on my watchlist, so I immediately check any changes anyone makes. Most of the time I don't change anything back unless I feel really strongly about it, as I do make a fair amount of errors. I looked over the prologue discussion page (sweet Jesus that is a lot of hooplah over just one prologue) and I just wanted say some stuff about a few of your concerns. The Celtic Magic minors thing was a grievous mistranslation on my part. What confused me was the fact that minor was in katakana. Thanks for the correction. Also, about Honami's Kansai dialect thing, what I try to do to show that is make her more relaxed in her speaking style, like lots of contractions, shortcuts when speaking, etc. I don't think it's necessary to add a footnote alerting the reader to Honami's speech as I doubt anyone who doesn't know Japanese cares. Home Ec seems to be a good translation, either that or cooking class. I'm not too sure about the Japanese school system, eg whether the class is cooking all year long or if it's more like home ec in america.
