I'm working from the Chinese translations of the light novels. The web novels were published before the light novels, but the light novels contain more content in terms of character development and extra scenes. Simply put, because someone signed up to do Chapter X before I did. Translators work at different speeds, so some chapters may come out ahead of the others. Everyone works at their own pace, so give them some time.

Hey man I know you put in all this work to Translate and now Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei has been licensed. Now we won't be able to keep re-reading the light novels until they release the Volumes over the next like 5 years. Is there any site or anyway that you can send copies of the Volumes to emails so that we as the Fans of your work and of Mahouka Koukou No Rettousei. Is there anyway that we could get the PDF of them and be able to Re-Read the Volumes at anytime we want cause i love your work and this series and for US(Me especially) to have to wait 5 years for YenPress to catch up is just too long without reading it. If you can't i understand but if you could I know not just me but countless others would be grateful for that. Also i think id be a shame for all your hard work to go to waste just sitting on your computer.

Yeah, but other than the last chapter (Presidential election), its really just a bunch of side stories that have little impact on the main story line (and by little I mean virtually none). Has there been any consensus about using Japanese honorifics, or nicknames? For example, Nyanta likes to call Shiroe "Shiroechi," and Soujirou as "Soujicchi" Would the translator mind? Also, I recently noticed that the punctuation for sentences could be different in the Japanese version. Would the translator mind if we tried to be consistent?

::For my point of view, the brackets is unnecessary, since the english reader (some of them and probably majority of them) is not accustomed to <> brackets. The english translation is mainly for english reader so it's pointless to copy japanese style for using 「」 brackets.

I'm not a translator or anything, I'm just trying to fix a few grammar errors when I see them (and make the script flow better... I'm also new here, account and forum-wise), but I've been seeing terms which seems as though they should be fixed being phrased in different ways.
* Is it "Elder Tale" or "Elder Tales"?
* Is it "League of Freedom Cities Eastal" or "Free Cities of Eastal League" (I've found at least three variations. As the name of a country, shouldn't this be somewhat constant?)
* Is "People of the Land" a title/race name, like Human, Elf and Dwarf? It's sometimes typed with first letter capitalization, sometimes without, sometimes used to refer to both plural and singular (for e.g. "she was a people of the land" as opposed to "she was a person of the land").

I hope you don't mind if I standardize the above terms, as well as any similar terms I encounter (I'll be using the first example quoted, because they're the first way the name is brought up).

== Epub version. ==

For what is worth, I bound the first chapter into a epub after some work. It was a bit more involved then I like, but I managed to get it down to a process after some work. I used Sigil to create it. There are a number of steps involved, so it isn't just a straight copy and paste. It includes the title image and illustrations, but the chapter images didn't fit very well. I filled out the metadata, and I even added the translators to it. It only took me about 3 hours to wrap up (most of it was figuring things out). If I do any more (which depends on if this is wanted or not), it should take less time.

I was not sure how to go about hosting it, so I upped them it in two different places.

These look very good in something like Moon+, but only okay on something like Sumantra. But that isn't the epub's fault (Sumanta doesn't format intelligently).

Sigil is just a epub editing tool. Pretty good for what it does. Makes working with epub fairly intuitive.

Anyway, I fixed a few errors in the epubs. I removed "Part X" from the TOC, I can reverse this if no one likes it, but it was the easiest option to resolve some TOC issues. I recombined the double pages. I still didn't add the chapter images, since I couldn't find a way to get pages to work with my ebook reader. Short of giving them their own document, which may the only option for compatibility. I also redid the images in the first chapter so they are similar in quality to the later chapters.

I personally want to keep the volumes below 1 mb each. For a few reasons. First I like small files. I get positive mental feedback for making files smaller. Second, my upload is slow. So overly large files take a long time to upload. Last, and probably most persuasively, older epub readers have fits with large epub files.

I was wondering if we should capitalize class and subclasses like Samurai, Scribe and Maid. I currently am editing them all to lower case because that is how the earlier translations were, but I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions.

One more thing, if referring to a singular People of the Land, should it be changed to Person of the Land? I have been keeping it as "a People of the Land" although that sounds weird.

:I would try to captalise classes but I'm not sure about your 'maid' example tho, depends on usage. That girl who likes Nyanta with the Maid/Housekeeper subclass, yes. Raynesia's maid- No. Like I said depends on usage.

:I don't see the need for sticking apostrophes for special terms. I removed the ones placed on Adventurers etc to match early wiki entries. Want to remove some of the apostrophes in V5C4 to be honest. 'Flea Market' isn't really needed, and I think they gave up on it later in the chapter as well, it was there I think since translators were discussing whether 'bazaar' would be a closer translation to the original text.

My 2 cents, I don't put much stock in the subtitles used. For instance:
:-They call the Catastrophe the Apocalyspse, which makes less sense (Catastrophe is just a bad thing, Apocalypse is the end of the world. As they believe they can go back, the world did not end) Also, IIRC, they used to call it the "Catastrophe" before they switched, which means the subs are inconsistent. Trying to be consistent with an inconsistent source hurts my brain. Also, the author translates it as "Catastrophe" back in volume 1, so....
:-On the map graphic they keep reusing, they say "Freedom Cities of Eastal." But in the one episode where you see the rings and the flags, it's "Freedom Towns of Eastal." Again, internal inconsistencies. I would and did go with Freedom Towns, because they actually bothered to draw/animate it, as opposed to just copy/paste the same graphic over and over.
:-They call the "Libra Festival" the "Scales Festival" -BLAAAAAH. Libra makes sense, not only because the fair takes place before the winter, but also because WHO THE HECK WOULD CALL IT the "Scales Festival"?
:-Krusty spells his name that way because he LIKES the Simpsons character, so...NO to the anime's "Crusty."
:-Subs call Rundelhous "Rundel Haus." His last name is not Haus, and his first name is not two words.
:-In vol6 - Maryele gives Raynesia a nick-name that sounds COMPLETELY different if you spell it with "Le". Also, Lenessia has a different pronunciation. The Japanese pronounce it as "RAY-nesshia." In English, Lenessia would be something like "luh-nessia"
:-They call "Zantleaf" instead of "Sandleaf". The Japanese can do a Z sound. They don't do it for "sandoriifu"
:-Regarding the names of the guilds that were translated, that's a more murky area. But I already have a dim view of the subtitles, and I think skythewood came up with better-sounding names anyway. "Marine Systems" v. "Oceanic Systems"
:-Etc., etc, rage, rage.
Whenever possible, I would side with the Author's original spelling, ESPECIALLY if he spelled it out in English (Krusty, Tohya, Raynesia, Maryele, Rundelhous). --Rasen

Okay, I said it’s my impression about OreImo as a whole, but first, let me started from the beginning.

I got a friend. An online friend. Let’s call him RZ for now (so that I could make fun of him later). He is the one who showed me OreImo. But let’s talk about him now. He is working in Japan at the moment, in Square Enix if my memory is right. There is a rumor that his parents kicked him to another country (he is not Japanese) because he entered imouto route in real life. I don’t know how much of it is true, but there are few facts here:

1. He said “Since my imouto is so beautiful, I feel absolutely nothing when I saw a beautiful girl on the street.”

2. He also said “As I stood in front of my imouto’s wardrobe, despite knowing that for the last ten years, she had nothing but white pantsu, yet I still opened it while hoping to see a different color, with green stripes, lace, black rims blah blah blah ... but in reality, I saw nothing but white pantsu and I felt like shit.

(Also, there is another rumor that his imouto is coming to Japan to live with him. And her favorite manga is Onii-chan control)

He is a guy like that. And one day, he wrote a troll-like review for OreImo, which he openly compared his life with Kyousuke. Thus I think “hell, this guy’s life is a comedy already, there is an anime with the same setting?” – and I watched OreImo (back then, I didn’t even know that it has a light novel)

The first things I like about OreImo was, of course – Kirino (surprised? Nah I guess not, I had openly admited that I’m a Kirino shipper many times before). The way she talked about eroge, anime, the happy expression she had on her face when she told Kyousuke about them. I envied that. True, my younger brother is an otaku too, I got some otaku friends myself (mostly online, but some offline too), but I had never seen someone looked so damn happy when talking about their hobby like that. I guess I started cheering for Kirino since that moment.

Some might say that Kirino is like a bitch in anime. I don’t agree. As an elder brother myself, I have been trainned since birth to protect my younger siblings (I turned my younger brother into an otaku, a gamer – Even better than me, so I guess I did a good job). So I was actually more annoy with how Kyousuke ignored Kirino. To me, Kirino’s tsun side is her way of trying to get Kyousuke’s attention. Why didn’t she? She had a lot to boast about: beauty, good grade and so… , yet Kyousuke ignored them? I saw it as a failure as an elder brother, but thankfully he is protective of her enough to balance it. And frankly, compared to other tsundere (Louise(FoZ) use a freaking whip and explosion, while Aria(HnA) used a gun/sword), Kirino treatment toward Kyousuke is quite light.

In later episode of season 1, when Kyousuke finally showed his brother instinct, I was all agree with him. To stand on your sibling’s side no matter what, this is what an elder brother supposed to do. Funny thought, when I saw him screamed ‘I LOVE MY LITTLE SISTER’ to Ayase, I immedialy checked the novel, and the way it stated that even he didn’t know what is he talking about lead me to believe that this is his subconscious speaking. That was the moment I started to ship both of them. The party at the episode 10 was so heart warming, to see both of them getting along fine after so long.

After that, I noticed the OreImo project on Baka-tsuki was almost stopped for god know how long. I tried to gather some member, but they can’t keep up with my speed. I get a chapter done in a week, but I need 2 more weeks to find someone to proofread them, and another 2 weeks to get their result (most of the time, it’s even longer). To tell the truth, I was discouraged back then. But I thought ‘hell, as if I care. I will translate them, no matter what.’. Then I meet GH-Basestone. He got the job done! He was my first real proofchecker. Thank you, GH-Basestone, for everything.

In later volume of light novel, especially volume 7 and forward, what I felt slowly changed. First, volume 7 confirmed my suspicious that Kirino did have romantic feeling toward Kyousuke, and Kyousuke unconsciously love her back. Her fake date is a way for her to enjoy spending time with him (too bad he ruined her mood at the end). And come volume 8. At first, I didn’t think much of Kuroneko. But reading their clumsy, full of mistake first love, first date brought a smile to my face. Her break up shocked me as much as everyone else. With later volume, when more and more girls joined in the fight, she is still my second favorite after Kirino. The scene when they broke up for real in volum 12 is heart breaking. It made me remember a familiar scene from Clannad, Kyou Fujibayashi’s route. They still love each others, but Kyousuke didn’t choose her. She tore up the Destiny Record, while Kyousuke forced himself to hold back his tear. This…this…damn…my eyes tears up a bit when I read it.

Volume 12 Impression

Originally, I intented to separate this part, but in the end, I guess I can’t give my impression of the whole series without giving my impression about the last volume. Well, for one thing, the Super-Kyousuke is good to read. It’s a bit frightening how far Kyousuke would go once he decided to do something. First, like with Kuroneko, he could translate Kirino’s words now. Secondly, the way he admited his feeling and break up with Kuroneko/Ayase, while painfully to read, is worthy of a man. And third, when Manami pressed him, he finally showed that he would go to whatever length nessassry to protect Kirino. Even Manami was taken back by this. He is, at long last, showed me how he earned Kirino’s respect, how many girls fall for him.

And Kirino’s reaction was heart warming. From the recording, we found out that Manami’s word three years ago had hit right on the mark. Kirino loves Kyousuke, maybe back then was only as a sibling. But since she was forced to hide it, she turned into a brocon, a big tsundere. Everytime that feeling resurfaced, everytime Kyousuke get affectionated with her, she both wanted and afraid of it at the same time. And thank for Kyousuke’s confession, for Ayase and Kuroneko’s pressing, she was able to let it out, to answer ‘Yes’ to a proposal. I like that scene. I really do.

Next is the wedding. Right, the wedding. The most important question that we all asked ourselves : What would they do next? Well, I think there is only one possible answer : they continued their relationship, maybe in a lesser degee, maybe in secret, who knows? Now, you asked why? There were several reason I believe they would continue loving each others.

First, they said they returned to normal sibling. What is their defination of ‘normal sibling’? Heck, maybe they might had different definations. Normal sibling, true, might not kissing each other. But getting jealous when the other had a boy/girlfriend? Yeah, that still counted as normal for them. So in eroge term, they had 99% full affection point.

Second, even if they returned to normal, many things will not simply disappear. The uniform that Kirino took from Kyousuke remained. The recording they heard together remained. And now they were even more aware of each other’s feeling. In my opinions, Kirino’s tsun side is her way of dealing with her feeling toward Kyousuke. In volume 9, she admited that this is abnormal. She knew that she shouldn’t feel this way, so she ended up deny everything, fearing the worst. But with Kyousuke returned her feeling, she has nothing to be afraid of anymore.

Third, Kyousuke cut off all of his escape routes. Kirino knew it. She knew that he did it for her, for her only. So dumping him completely now would be horrible, would hurted him beyond imagination. I doubted she would do that for someone she love.

Fourth, the limited time lover was their way to express their supressed feeling. However, their feeling also grew during that time. So I think that wouldn’t work. Instead, it brought them even closer.

Fifth, the epilogue. Kirino, acting all dere dere and asked for a ring. Seriously, a ring? With her money, she could buy everything herself, yet she asked for a ring? Especially a ring that can be used in public without risk? Added in the ‘life counseling’ keywork, the way she looked back and asked him to follow her, I bet they still love each other. Who knows? Siblings aren’t allowed to marry, but they had married. Maybe the law don’t accept it, but they did. Why do they even care?

All in all, OreImo is a great novel, a good anime. I like how everyone was shown with complex characteristic, with hidden depth and feeling. Even Kyousuke, as dense as he was, is a puzzle for himself. I realy enjoy reading it, enjoy watching it, enjoy translating it. To all of my reader, thank you for stay with me for so long. One, i wasn't the one that typesetted the text for haganai, i take it was Omb according to what i see by uploads, so i'm not sure what fonts did he use. Second, it depends on the picture, question is too vague, is the picture blurry? Or maybe it's lots of noise? If its blurry, you can't sharpen it. You have to redraw it via pen/brush and hours of work. If it's just noisy, probably blurring out, denoise tools, softbrushes and manual redrawing by hand. Three for the method i use to replace text, when i have actually time to do such a thing, i redraw everything by hand, just by using brush tool, either pentablet or mouse works here, though i recommend using a pentablet myself. --[[User:Krytyk|Krytyk]] ([[User talk:Krytyk#top|talk]]) 12:49, 27 November 2013 (CST)

Well that's whole another matter, smudge tool is unusable, blur tool is usable, but you need to know when, and in what situation - you can't ever "accidentally" use blur on lines, means you have to use small brush blur, also it takes time, blur filter, gausian blur filter and topaz - a photoshop addon work as well, but like with everything, you need to know how to use it. Random of tools like blur, or filters will damage the art instead.

Is there any possible alternative instead of small fry platoon? Maybe ...second rate platoon or worthless platoon or paltry platoon? Japanese first names are often commonly written in katakana for men, and hiragana for women, depending on complexity of kanji originally used in their names . But on formal documents they're always written with proper kanji. That's the principle behind it. Takeru there is very formal, stating the name of his style, his rank, and full name. There's nothing special about his name as it is written in kanji. The only thing I can do while maintaining accurate translations is to emphasize the formal tone. Somehow,I hope you'll allow for some terminology to be in to english. It's kinda difficult to read if one wasn't versed in
Japanese. Especially stuff like 'oppai' and 'bishoujo', which do not have any connotations and sounds wierd in the sentences(e.g 'grope oppai' just sounds disjointed). I'd understand for Maou, Senpai, Kouhai, lolicon and endings though.

Yeah, that's right. We keep the original Japanese name for the characters. So we also use -san, -chan, and -sama suffix is well. So just like you said it's Hyodou Issei but his nickname is Ise and everyone in the club calls him that.

I also highly recommend the anime ;-)

An other really, really good story is Date A Live. The project already exists at BT but there isn't much progress... The LN also becomes animated this year. Maybe you could give it a try and read the first chapter - it's really funny :-)

Oda Nobuna no Yabou...please consider translating this novel. It's the best reverse gender sengoku jidai to date as far as I know.

Wondering since you translated most of Highschool DxD. What exactly is Kiba's Scared Gear? The sword handle or does it reside in him?

Well his Sacred Gear abilities allows him to create swords. Saying that he can recreate sword from the sword handle he is holding to and also even create a whole new sword. He can even create the sword on his foot.

Since the other editors said OK to my request to help, I would still like to. I'm not looking to edit with intent to adapt to english like I know someone will eventually but I'd like to help proofread and fix some of the grammer in the unadapted sections.
