Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (空ろの箱と零のマリア, The Empty Box and The Zeroth Maria) is a light novel series written by [[:Category:Mikage Eiji|Eiji Mikage]] and illustrated by Tetsuo (formerly known as 415), the series is complete with 7 volumes. While Utsuro no Hako, often abbreviated as ''Hakomari,'' is Eiji's fourth publication, it is the first to feature illustrations. ''Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria,'' or ''The Empty Box and The Zeroth Maria,'' tells the story of Kazuki Hoshino, who is almost madly attached to his everyday life, and his antagonist Aya Otonashi, who suddenly transfers into his class at the end of the school year—for no less than the 13,118<sup>th</sup> time. Without hesitation, she announces her intent to “break” him. Kazuki's struggle to defend his everyday life begins, and the many secrets it is built on start to come to light.

Utsuro no Hako is one of my favorite stories, ever.

After reading the translations of first four books here literally four separate times, I decided to clean up some grammatical and spelling mistakes during my fifth readthrough. My aim is to fix as many of these as I can find, without changing the meaning or inflection of the action or dialogue. I don't care whether I'm credited or not...I just want more people to be able to appreciate Mikage-san's fine work.

I've gone through the first two books already and started the third, but did so anonymously; now that I've realized that I already created an account here, I figured I might as well use it!

Can't wait for volume 5.

When I read volume 3, I noticed that the Author's Notes was the one from volume 2 (however, if I, instead of clicking on Volume 3, click on Author's Notes, under volume 3, I get the right one. Hopefully you'll understand what the hell I said ^^;;)

Minor translation issue: "fellow" in American English generally has a very masculine connotation. I'm not sure what to suggest instead (maybe just "that girl" or similar as I assume that this is replacing "aitsu" and similar terms), but it's very confusing to see Taiga referred to consistently in the narration as a "fellow". Perhaps refer to some anime translations of some of the same scenes for reference on how some of these lines have been handled by others (not that fansubs are perfect, of course). If you need someone to fix it, I probably could sign on later for that and other edits. :D
