On the way, a splendid looking torch affixed to one of the ships caught my eye. Unlike the pine wood we always used, it was made from torn bamboo tied together to make a tube, and packed with old rags, straw, magnesium wire and such as fuel. 	Because the torchlight's intensity was too weak to illuminate the area completely, my field of vision was limited to a sphere of a few meters. The road continued into a field the end of which I could not clearly make out.
