Kawa-Commentary[edit]

Final Chapter: Illust Novel

  • General

Here we are at the last chapter.

When I initially thought up this story, I never could have imagined what would happen in New York…

  • Page 1

The broken thing at the bottom is Halifax. I think this is located at the City Hall.

  • Page 2

The destruction of the city is partially due to the earthquake, but also due to some large things running wild. The buildings with pieces torn out of them were probably damaged when something fell on them.

And the sky is mostly white with some trails of smoke.

  • Page 3

In the background we see a convenience store named Convenience Store… It was built as part of a package instead as an independent building, so it was relatively easy to crush like this. The neighboring building is similar, so it split apart from the weaker connections.

  • Page 4

The ruins of the city. The area of torn up ground toward the front is where Thunderbird collapsed onto his side and you can see where his beak fell on the buildings a bit further back. Some of the cherry tree’s branches have fallen off, but since they fell on the hilly region instead of the urban region, someone must have guided them down there.

  • Page 5

This is our first look at the cherry tree from this angle. The nature park hall at the base acts as an entrance for the viewing platform.

  • Page 6

Inside the tree. The panel on the right is the lobby we saw in Ch. 4. The left one is the hangar. The hangar’s double barrier door is still open because it was left open in preparation for the earthquake.

  • Page 7

Diving from the hangar terrace. The nature park is down below. The space on the upper right is a parking lot. What looks like a dead end at the bottom is a tunnel passing below the roots. On the bottom left, you can see two lakes and the path Sarah took on page 5.

On the upper left is the river that supplies the tree with water and prevents flooding. Wave breaking blocks covering the bank are to slow the current enough to avoid rapids at the bottom of the hills. At the far left, a tree root lifting itself from the ground can be seen crossing over the river.

  • Page 8

This hill overlooking the city is a short distance from the tree.

The position of the sun says Sarah is looking south, so she would be looking to the Pacific.

The V-shaped hole in the building roof near where the tip of Sarah’s wing falls is Thunderbird’s footprint. (The center line is hidden by the smoke.) You can just barely make out more footprints that show just how fierce a battle it was…or maybe not.

  • Pages 9-14

It would be best to stay quiet here.

Anyway, that ends the story. Thank you very much.
