#6: Classmate, Disciplinary Committee, Mayhem

The third term of school was short, so there was only an end term test and no mid term test.

In other words, there was only one chance to aim for the rank one spot.

First and foremost, I’ll go observe my enemies movements.

“This was a huge help, thanks.”

Before first period began, I gave Mogami, who was staring off into space, her book back.

“Oh, you already finished all of it?”

Her braids swung as she turned her head to look at me. They don’t stand out too much, but in reality her hair is actually pretty long. If she untied it, she may give off a different impression altogether.

“I’m not gonna untie it. My hair is a pain to deal with.”

“Don’t just read my thoughts as if they were so obvious. It's scary.”

“Because you were just staring at my braids. I can more or less figure out what you’re thinking.”

Mogami made a ‘Fuwaa’ noise as she let out a big yawn.

She didn’t have to go that far, but it was thanks to her that I was able to regain my number one spot since she taught me. For now I won’t argue back.

“You mentioned before that you don’t actually want to become a doctor, right?”

“Yeah, not at all.”

She had said she comes from a family of a long line of doctors. As a result, her mom wants her to follow in their footsteps, but Mogami seems to have a different idea.

“Why not? The pay is high and it's a highly respected profession, so a lot of people want to become one. It would make sense if you grades were bad or it wasn’t possible, but you’re not like that.”

Not to mention that her family has money, so there should be no problem. Even if she doesn’t get the recommendation, it still seems like she’ll end up going to med school.

Mogami glanced at me.

“Being a doctor isn’t as great as you think.”

Mogami was as nonchalant as always, but but her words seemed strangely serious.

“It’s a big responsibility for sure. But that makes it all the more worth doing.”

“That’s not what I’m talking about.”

Mogami nodded.

“How about you try talking to my dad.”

“Heh?”

I let out my voice in surprise to such an unexpected proposal.

“If you really want to become a doctor, maybe he’ll give you some advice.”

Mogami’s dad is said to be the best plastic surgeon in the city.

He’s also Chiwa’s family doctor.

“However. You’re not allowed to get mad at him and ask why he couldn’t return Chiwa back to how she was before.”

“I-I won’t.”

To be honest, I still have some ill feelings towards him, but I wouldn’t do something like that. Above all, it would make Chiwa sad.

Either way, this is more than I could ever ask for.

“Yes please. I’m ok with meeting whenever is convenient for him.”

“Gotcha. I’ll ask him about it.”

Mogami glanced away for a second.

I followed where she was looking and...Masuzu-san was gazing at us with a scary look.

“By the way, you broke up with her, right”

“You know a lot, huh.”

“I heard from Chiwa.”

For now, it seems that only a small group of people know.

I investigated the super popular Takana-kun from the soccer club, but he didn’t seem to know yet. He then went on to get mad and said ‘My names Yamamoto’.[1] Sorry, I honestly forgot.

“I’d want to say that from Chiwa’s position, this is a one in a lifetime opportunity, but it seems that some trouble is still to come.”

Afterschool. Just as Mogami had predicted, trouble came quickly and unsurprisingly.

Akano Mei, the central girl of the class, went up to Masuzu’s desk with three of her friends.

This is bad!

I was just about to call out to her, but Akano beat me by a hair.

“Nee Nee, Natsukawa-san. Are you free for a bit?”

Masuzu had a very surprised expression as someone she hardly knew began talking to her.

However she suddenly hid her surprise and returned back to her cool-headed self.

Masuzu wasn’t stupid enough to just reply with ‘What do you want?’.

“Sure, I don’t mind.”

“Really? Well, then we can go to McDonalds and…”

“Here is fine.”

Masuzu interrupted and this time Akano was the one with the surprised look.

“We’ll be finished talking in no time at all, so there’s no need to go somewhere else.”

“Uhh..umm..ah”

Masuzu looked away from the bewildered Akano and exchanged looks with me.

‘’’There’s no problem, everything is alright.’’’

Like that, she gently kept me away.

After that, she took a small breath.

She announced to the whole class that was pretending to return home but was really eavesdropping:

“It’s as you’ve guessed. Eita-kun and I have broken up.”

The classroom became noisy from so many people talking. It was the same as when Masuzu confessed to me six months ago. And just as it was back then, it felt as if all eyes were on me. It seems like this is just our fate.

“Is this for real, Eita!”

“Why? How come? Who broke up with who?”

“You let the biggest opportunity of your life go to waste?!”

People had begun to crowd around me as well. Seriously, why do they care about other people’s business when it comes to love.

“I got dumped.”

“AHH AS EXPECTED!”

Everyone spoke in unison as they nodded. I get it, but you’ll still hurt my feelings, you bastards.

“Why did you break up with Kidou-kun?”

“I realized that there was someone who is a much better match for him than I am.”

“Who? Who is?”

Masuzu replied calmly to Akano as she questioned her.

“It’s who everyone expects it is. Harusaki Chiwa-san, his childhood friend.”

High pitched cheers filled the classroom.

Everyone in our class knew about the love triangle between me, Masuzu, and Chiwa. In addition, it was also this class that spread news of the ‘Dora Live Incident’ when ‘Jien-otsu’ was just us three.

“Well Kidou and Harusaki-san do seem like a good match for each other.”

“Even so, this is unforgivable.”

“Don’t you think they go better together than him and Masuzu?”

“Even so, this is unforgivable.”

There were some voices of hatred mixed in, but for the most part the responses seemed to be favorable.

...Was that your goal, Masuzu.

Trying to clear the path to your goal by announcing this to the whole class.

“I’m not going out with Chiwa or anything!”

I objected with a yell, but everyone was too busy gossiping to hear.

This was quite the carefully thought out plan. There’s no doubt she liked Joseph from part two.[2]

But are you OK with this, Masuzu?

If people know you’re single again, won’t you return to the ‘confession hell’ that you were in during the first term? It was only a matter of time before people found out, but was there any need to expose it yourself?

At a time like this I would rely on Kaoru, but he wasn’t here because he had something to do at the student council.

“In that case, Masuzu-san how about going out with me?”

The person who was already bringing that up was the popular Sakagami. He jokingly skipped over to Masuzu’s desk and kneeled while stretching his right arm out.

Masuzu smiled brightly.

“I politely decline♪”

“Uwa, I was rejected in two seconds~. It's a new record~.”

The class burst out in laughter at Sakagami who was laying on his back in the shape of a 大 character while pretending to be knocked out.

Yamanaka-kun from the soccer club was glaring with a look that I had never seen before.

Well, this is sorta how it goes.

There were only a handful of people who truly had a crush on Masuzu.

For a majority, it was fun game of asking out the ‘number one school beauty’ and nothing more.

But I wonder if Masuzu could go on being the subject of that game.

This has already gotten out of hand.

“What are you all being so loud for!”

The classroom fell silent in an instant.

The angry voice came from someone standing in the doorway while glaring at the class.

Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Fuyuumi Ai.

Behind her stood two other Disciplinary Committee members that came along.

The other two were our second year senpais, but they were following A-chan very naturally.

Fuyuumi walked up to the podium while the class was silent after being intimidated by her appearance.

“It’s prohibited for students with no business to attend to to stay after school. Those with after school activities or committee work, get going, and those without either of those are to return home at once.”

There were many students who didn’t seem happy with this, but nearly everyone reluctantly went back to preparing to head home.

The people who had crowded around myself and Masuzu had dispersed as well.

“And one more thing. I think these jokes involving Masuzu has gone too far. From now on, the Disciplinary Committee will deal with those offences strictly, so please keep that in mind.”

“Wait I wasn’t really”

“Yeah. This wasn’t us making fun of her or anything.”

Fuyuumi responded bluntly to Akano and Sakagami who had begun to make an objection.

“Love is no joke.”

Even if those around her can’t tell, A-chan is more serious than anyone when it comes to love.

Those words ‘Love is no joke’ also resonated with me.

Even though my classmates didn’t know the details, the seriousness of that statement seems like I was conveyed since no one argued back.

Except one person.

“...What are you scheming...?”

Masuzu muttered as she stared at A-chan with doubtful eyes.

Ah, Masuzu.

Why can’t you just be obedient?

A-chan is trying to help you out.

  1. Masuzu made this same mistake earlier in the series
  2. Second JoJo of the series was smart and had these really smart plans.
