Talk:Baka to Tesuto to Syokanju:Volume1 The First Question

I'm not an official editor, but I'm looking to do more of it, and I did some minor typo fixes and changes to make it "flow" better. I have some questions/comments though:

GENERAL PROJECT SUGGESTED CHANGES

The use of Japanese titles is not consistent. In one point, Nishimura-sensei is referred to as "Nishimura-sensei", but later on as "Sir." According to the tl note, "Nishimura-sensei was used because "Nishimura-teacher" sounds strange. If we wanted to make it more accessible, we could call him "Mr. Nishimura" (In English we add "Mr. Ms. or Mrs. before a teacher's family name) If you want to keep it as sensei, then we should also change his title later on from "Sir." to "Sensei"

"Class Division" sounds strange. I think "Placement Test" would work much better, but since it's used so many times, I wanted to suggest it here.

I believe "Gakuen" translates to "School" or "Academy". I believe replacing this with School or Academy would make the story more accessible, without needing any localization. Again, this is used frequently, so I wanted to suggest it here.

This one isn't as important, but are we using British or American English?

“What! Is my skin colour more important than you being late for school?”

British English is "colour", American English is "color".

It might help to pick either British or American for consistency, since a good amount of words are spelled differently. Again, this is a more major change, so I wanted to check with the main editor here first.

CHAPTER SPECIFIC SUGGESTIONS

"A sport type guy with light dark skin and short hair was standing there."

What is 'light dark skin'? Did you mean 'medium tone,' 'lightly tanned' or something like that?

I was thinking tanned because of this line later on:

“Ah, I am sorry. Err...Your skin is very dark today as well.”

“Yoshii, you should be glad right? My opinion is really correct.”

This sentence confuses me. At the point the teacher says this, does he already know the result of the test? Otherwise, how would he know he was correct? And why would Yoshii be glad that he was put in class F?

I know it's a big list, but I wasn't sure if I could make such big changes as just a random contributor. I made a good amount of smaller ones, but wanted to double check the bigger ones. I would like to see the translator or editor's opinion on this.

According to the General Format/Style Guideline, American English IS to be used.

By the way, although you have not posted anything at the forum, it would be better if you do so, since people are very unlikely to visit/hold their discussion here (despite the irony that this IS a discussion page.) =)

Aluminum is not an alloy. Are you sure it's not confused with "metalloid?"
