Starting from the Main Page, I do not see a clear route to information on what a TLC position would entail. This may be related to that I have not previously gone to the Forum or the Blog. --After looking at both, the Blog seems to be mostly unused and the Forum has no sub-forums which clearly indicate they would hold relevant information.

Revision as of 13:29, 14 March 2013

To Unknown Person,

  1. It is Okaa-sama or some variation of mother not Aunt
  2. It is parka-a type of jacket, not parker.
  3. Even if you are not going to register, you should probably read the General Format/Style Guideline and follow them out of courtesy to the editors

Sashiko (talk) 22:37, 25 February 2013 (CST)

I am sorry if I came off as rude but when I saw that you had not registered I thought whoever it was might be even more of a novice than me. I am still in the process of figuring out how to do the things listed there. For example, I should have probably requested help with the monkey metaphor I omitted in Presidential Elections and the Queen. And I know that have alot to be thankful for them since after when I go over my own work I am still finding a lot of simple punctuation errors and spots where I forgot to write an important clause or wrote mad when I meant made.Sashiko (talk) 23:18, 25 February 2013 (CST)

I only have a suggestion. When reading CH 6, I did not know when the time changed happened. May be it is just me. It would do for easier reading to put a marker that time in the story has shifted to the past. Just a thought, don't have to do it. But great work overall. I love it! --popocatepetl (talk) 13:16, 5 March 2013 (CST)

It's at the start of the chapter? The 2092AD bit. You only have to remember two years 2095AD = present and 2092 = past. All the jumps in time have also be sectioned off as chapters (so the story doesn't time jump mid-chapter), that's why the chapters maybe short and why there are many of them. --Drowzycow (talk) 13:26, 5 March 2013 (CST)

My bad, I am still new to this format and I tend to be clueless. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for taking the time to just simply find out my name.

  1. Yes it is Okaa-sama, but since Maya is Miyuki's aunt (cos her real mother is, y'know, dead), and there is no expedient way to TL the nuances of the term, I went with the simplest.
  2. Er, I knew that. *cough*
  3. I believe me and the editors have long since come to an accommodation on guidelines. /not being selfish

Isn't Miya (the mother) still alive in this flashback tho? That being said it should be 2092, and it's young Miyuki and Tatsuya on the beach. --Drowzycow (talk) 10:41, 26 February 2013 (CST)

Shiba Miya died in the experiment on Tatsuya, which occurred earlier than the events in this flashback. As seen by Maya's visit to them during the Thesis arc, Miyuki refers to her as Okaa-sama, which is why I assume it's the same here. Seit (talk) 12:55, 26 February 2013 (CST)

Do you mean the visit by their stepmother, Sayuri? During that visit I got the impression their mother only died fairly recently due to statements between Sayuri and Tatsuya,

"Miyuki may think that way. After all, it's only natural for her to be somewhat resentful if her father remarried less than half a year after her mother died. Even though she may act like an adult, she's really just a 15 year old young girl."

"......And you?"

"I am incapable of such an emotional reaction. That was the way I was forged."

"......Well, forget it, regardless of whether that's true or not, that's no longer in my hands. Even so, if we were to talk about that, I hope that you can seriously listen to him, since it was only half a year for you two, but a whole 16 years for me."

--Drowzycow (talk) 14:52, 26 February 2013 (CST)

Oh.. I forgot that person existed. Her then. Yeah, that makes sense. Seit (talk) 16:13, 26 February 2013 (CST)

On the Miya/Maya matter: in File:MKnR_v08_004.jpg her name is definitely given as 'Miya', rather than 'Maya'. Also, in scene 31 (of the audio version at least), Maya phones the house from elsewhere to tell Miya and the others to seek refuge in the military base. It may be worth reviewing the part which indicates her time of death.
|
Edit: 'As seen by Maya's visit to them during the Thesis arc, Miyuki refers to her as Okaa-sama': I'm not sure which part this is referring to, but in the video call in the Volume 7 full text, I note the term of address 'Oba-sama' is used.
|
Two other notes (likewise based on the audio version):
|
'Mawari no parasol ha, subete hikiagerareteimasu': This indicates that all surrounding parasols have been {pulled up, that is to say removed, which is consistent with violence having taken place (for instance, getting away from the area)}, rather than 'increased'. The hikiageru 'increase' meaning is for a level, e.g. taxes, and not for discrete objects.
|
'renshuu wo mite itadakou': Miyuki, a young girl working hard to learn magic, wants her mother to observe her magic practice (and maybe offer suggestions). 'show me some magic practice' would be 'misete itadakou', and would be odd both as {Miya's magic practice would likely be far too advanced for her young daughter to as yet gain much from watching it} and {Miya is supposed to refrain from using magic as much as possible to avoid the burden on her health}.

In any case, all translation done is greatly appreciated!

Yes, I had been pretty much going off the assumption I read somewhere that Miya died during the original experiment on Tatsuya (the wiki page simply said she died, no mention of date). Obviously not the case. All other changes have been made. Thanks very much for your work! Have you considered registering as a TLC? Lord knows we need more of those. Seit (talk) 04:28, 14 March 2013 (CDT)

Thank you for the reply! *happiness* The message on my IP page has been read as well, though I didn't know whether there was a meaningful way to reply there.

I find myself compelled to make known things I see that can be corrected, but {shy away from something perceived as obligation} and {have in other venues sometimes engendered animosity by unintentionally hurting people's egos}. I do not know what registering as a TLC entails, but if it {allows me to continue acting here and there on the things I spot while reading for enjoyment} while not adding obligatory duties, it could be best to do so. (My default position in {these circles of the Internet as a whole} is to drop observations anonymously and then flee, hoping that they will gladden a percentage of recipients.)
