The students, who have waited days to go home, will ride by carriage. They will go back to their hometown, being encouraged by their parents to return to the capital of Tristania.

This sentence seems little awkward to me. Shouldn't it be plural form( carriages, hometowns )? It may be just my english, though.

- I don't see anything wrong with carriage, it's the same as saying "The students will ride by train, bus, coach etc..." in modern contexts. As for hometown, i think it's fine either way, as each student only has *one* hometown. - Spastication
