Revision as of 21:49, 31 August 2012

Hi there and no problem, as you probably have seen in the front page I'm just giving something back to the community. First of all its my first time using this thing(which is why it took so long for me to get back to you) so I have no idea if im suppose to respond here(because i looked in your user talk thing but I don't see a category that fits this kind of reply but I'm just going to post here anyways so you see this lol) but if so I want to be able to do all of Volume 12. However since this is my first time translating and I still consider myself a beginner, it will move at a slower rate than the other translators. If you don't mind that and you like the quality of my work(the prologue) then I will sign up for all of Vol 12. Thatsjustpeachy 13:36, 10 June 2012 (CDT)

Ryuu to Aitsu to Kawaige no Nai Watashi

It's great to hear you're looking forward to it :) But, I won't be putting the text onto the wiki until I finished translating the whole chapter. It might take a while since it's 93 pages long. Stellarroze 17:10, 2 March 2012 (CST)

ummm...that's rather...oh well, 'will get a whole chapter 2 read. Good luck with it :) --Chancs 23:45, 2 March 2012 (CST)

High School DxD

The fallen angels don't have a god, since they are... well fallen from grace. Azazel is widely acknowledged as the top leader among the other fallen angel leaders. It's kinda confusing, but that's how it is. Kokobiel is an ambitious fallen angel leader that overstepped his boundaries. -Hiro Hayase 00:31, 5 March 2012 (CST)

In lieu of the text, 10 grade student and etc. are not used in the translated volumes at all, I'm changing it for consistency. In Japanese they use this naming system to refer to the following grade levels. 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year. It is already a well established fact that it takes place in High School. --Hiro Hayase 15:50, 9 March 2012 (CST)

Then let's compromise. 1st year high school student, and so. Use those to be specific. Btw your looking at this from a non-Japanese perspective. In other LN's you will see this commonly, 3rd year middle school student, 2nd year high school student. They do not use grades at all. Kuou Academy has a high school and university section, that's only a brief introduction to the characters its not going to deviate from the story. --Hiro Hayase 16:06, 9 March 2012 (CST)

They use the 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year, so on for all the levels of education. Different system than the US grade system. It's a cultural thing, but I expect most of the people that read LN's or manga to have some grasp of Japanese culture. We used Kuou Academy over Kuou Gakuen (means school) because Kuou has a University section, so it made more sense to use Academy. -Hiro Hayase 16:23, 9 March 2012 (CST)

I fixed the problem, but many of the chapters are missing chapter headings. You did everything right except that you didn't add the 2nd part after the | thing. --Hiro Hayase 23:34, 13 May 2012 (CDT)

RE:Tenses

For the most part I think they're present tenses since those narrations are supplementing what's going on currently, but there are some past tenses here and there when they talk about what already happened. I say for now just go with whatever makes the story flow and if you have any specific questions, just let me know. Kanannon 03:05, 19 March 2012 (CDT)

If you mean the little "quotes" in () <-these things then they're more or less part of the translation. Some literal, while others loosely.

Kanannon 03:05, 19 March 2012 (CDT)

Practically all Japanese novels are narrated in the present tense except for discussion of past events. But normally, present tense doesn't work well in English for narration. Most of the time, our approach would be: Past tense for narration, present tense for thoughts and monologue, and sometimes present tense for present setting related narration where past tense may not make sense. --larethian 04:23, 19 March 2012 (CDT)

Blade dance chapter 8

クレアの激情にこたえるか It responded to Claire's fury

のように、like, as if

黒い焰はますます燃えさかる。 the black flame blaze even more

The line doesn't say that's why it blazed even more, it only implies so.--KuroiHikari 05:13, 29 March 2012 (CDT)

It's fine as long as the meaning doesn't change.--KuroiHikari 05:36, 29 March 2012 (CDT)

Blade dance project

Well, I pretty much think that there was something wrong with me when I started to translate the novel; I don't have much experience in translation, and neither Japanese nor English is my first language. Anyway, I am a big fan of this series, and it feels good to spread the love. As for the project supervisor, someone more capable should take the job. Thanks for editing this series. I know I mess up the grammar and wording a lot. Sincerely, -- nikuniku.

Tabspace

Difficult question. The use of tabs is not normal on Mediawiki based sites afterall. The first choice is to copy the character I'm about to give in the following quotes:

" " (copy in edit mode please).

Now if you want to indent a whole paragraph then that's simple:

simply write a colon(:) at the very start of the paragragh as shown here (see in edit mode). Do you see it. I'm gonna write some non-meaningful text now so that you understand that using this method will indent the whole paragraph and not just one line. So don't take it the wrong way, okay? Do you get it? You get it don't you? Of course you got it! There's no way you couldn't have got it, couldn't you? You did, didn't you? Of course you did. Ahem, that's all.

I'm afraid that's all I can do since tabspace isn't normally used in websites, only on paper. Zero2001 - Talk - 07:24, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

See this for more details. Especially the Indented Paragraphs (Quotes) section. Zero2001 - Talk - 07:30, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

This could be exceptionally useful to you. Zero2001 - Talk - 07:33, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

But personally I'd giveup on tabbing. It doesn't suit the web, only pdf or word files or paper(hardcopy). Zero2001 - Talk - 07:37, 23 April 2012 (CDT)
If it's song lyrics (single line each) then just use the colon(:) method. Zero2001 - Talk - 11:21, 23 April 2012 (CDT)
The more colons(:::*) you put the more the text will indent. Zero2001 - Talk - 11:21, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

Chancs, if you post the raw and the translation (only 3-4 lines?) then I'm sure someone could "fix" it to look like in the raw. Vaelis 12:47, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

You don't have a pic of the raw? Vaelis 14:55, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

For that the best way would be to use tables or the div tags. Zero2001 - Talk - 14:57, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

Zero2001 - Talk - 15:06, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

Forget about the pic, I've downloaded the raw. Vaelis 15:35, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

After looking at the raw, I think it's wrong to add those tabs... The only tabs are for one line "Lears neckt ele ravience Shadir Isa jes qusi xin fears toga peg ilmei shel" and there is no tabs in the raw anywhere else. Vaelis 15:45, 23 April 2012 (CDT)

Ah, I apologize for the commotion about the tabs. On the raw, there were slightly larger spaces between some of the furigana-style words on the side (i'm not really sure what to to call them...) On the chinese version that I am translating from, there are also slightly larger spaces between some words. After googling it, I've actually fixed the spacing by using the '& nbsp;' code. And using lot of them. It looks really messy in the editing view, but it's okay on the actual page view.

I personally think that it looks better with this kind of spacing, but if you feel that it's wrong to add them, then feel free to undo my edit :) --Mystrael

Appreciate the help

Thanks a bunch for helping me out! I got the chapter posting down but I'm still struggling very hard with the images:/ Every time I upload them they just save under my contributions instead of going in the caption box like I'm hoping. I'm quite sure I'm doing it wrong haha, so I was wondering if you might know of a quick fix? Deck of cards 01:33, 18 May 2012 (CDT)

Thanks for correcting my slight mistake on the navbar. Zero2001 - Talk - 08:45, 18 May 2012 (CDT)

Alright I officially have it down! Thanks again for all the help! Deck of cards 11:21, 18 May 2012 (CDT)

Haha I figured I was doing something horribly wrong when I kept having to go back and forth. I was trying to make it so the link at the bottom would go back and forward to the previous and next chapters. I apologize for the mess:/ Deck of cards 13:10, 18 May 2012 (CDT)

You have created such a variety of pages that I will have do delete some. --Chancs 13:13, 18 May 2012 (CDT)

Thanks for all your hard work! I love your work!

Rinkan no Madoushi

Hi!

For the first line, you're right damaged would be a better word than hurt.

For the second line, the sound effect in Japanese was "konkon". Here's the definition for it: http://jisho.org/words?jap=konkon&eng=&dict=edict . What do you think would be best?

For the third line, would "Celo removed his arm's power, as soon as he recognised the figure." be better? I misunderstood the sentence as I thought Celo was about to fight, but in fact it's the opposite. My translation never made sense in the first place. Here's the original Japanese - " その姿を認めるや,セロは腕の力を抜く。"

For the fourth line, they're talking about the same person. "He" is the guy that Marill isn't allowed to talking about and "She" is Marill herself.

Just wanted to let you know that I created a Guidelines page for Rinkan no Madoushi. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Rinkan_no_Madoushi:Guidelines :) Stellarroze - Talk 04:37, 6 June 2012 (CDT)

B-T Forums

Do you know what happened to the forums? I can't access anything there except messages or my profile. Was the the forum temporarily taken down in an effort clear the spam? Sorry I was gone for a month for surgery and wisdom teeth removals. --Hiro Hayase (talk) 14:10, 25 August 2012 (CDT)

Never mind, its all sorted out. --Hiro Hayase (talk) 14:36, 25 August 2012 (CDT)

Annie's Dialect

Updated.

It's not limited to Annie, btw. Other characters use it. It's the katakana version.
