Good Job

I just wanted to say good luck, we're all counting on you. Seriously though, I just signed up so that I could let you know how much I appreciate the work you've put into the Clannad translation project. Having used SEEN files from both before and after you came along, I can say that the readability and general quality is now much better across the board, and when the image-based text is all done it'll be pretty much spot on. Clannad has just about edged it as my favourite VN that I've read so far, and I'm really thankful that people like you put in the work so that I can enjoy it in my native language. I think/hope that I speak for many when I say this.

Ganbatte, and all that.

Thank you for your encouraging feedback! I'm glad that you find the endeavour worthwhile. To be honest, when I first started I was a bit worried that most people might have "finished Clannad" and not be interested in the cleanups... but it's quite clear now that old fans and newcomers alike are still keen to see the game in its polished glory. I think it deserves to be presented well, as Clannad is one of the best-written stories I've come across. So, I'll do my best, Nagisa-style! ;)

Well, I thought I'd drop by too and say that this work is really appreciated. I've been waiting for complete patch to come out for 2,5 years now, so no pressure ;). And I know that many people reluctant to learn Japanese are effectively learning English from these VN's so your audience are not only native English speakers. Thus given that every 1000th lives a comment you can imagine that there are quite a bunch of people out there like me, anxiously waiting. So Go team Nagisa (or _insert preferred girl's name here_)!

Thinking about going through a full editing pass for certain routes

I was just replaying Clannad from scratch, and noticed there's still a lot of poor English throughout the game (or at least the one part I replayed so far [Kyou's]). At first, I tried to ignore it, but I couldn't stand it anymore toward the end.

Now I'm thinking of editing each scene as I go through the replay (I don't speak/read Japanese, so it'd be purely in an editor capacity). I'm not sure how long I could keep it up, but I thought I'd let you know I'll probably be doing a lot of edits across multiple scenes, in case you had any objections, or you have any areas you'd rather have me avoid until you get re-translations or TL checkers in.

I'll probably run through Kyou's/Ryou/Kappei's route once more, from the very top, followed by Kotomi's. If I still have any steam left in my after that, I'll see about tackling other routes. There's a huge amount of editing that needs to be done to make the text flow smoothly and make sense. If you want to take a quick peak at the type of changes I'll be making, I revamped a large part of SEEN3513 last night. Feedback on the changes is appreciated.

And keep up the good work! Hopefully this project will be done in the near future.

Hi Delwack, thank you for your hard work! I've had a quick look through your edits; you have a good grasp on the natural flow of English. Thank you also for your detailed comments (e.g. SEEN0414) -- they do highlight things we've missed before. I apologize that I can't afford the time to join you in editing and discussions just yet, but I'll address your comments one by one when I'm free, from 21 June onward.
As for route selection, I'm happy with your approach (it's basically what I did myself when I started). Manpower is down, so please continue with what you're able to do (or, you can wait until I'm back, if that will help you to avoid burning out). Just one request: If you change the contents of a line significantly (e.g. line <0287> in SEEN3513), please leave the old line in a comment -- it helps to highlight the lines that need TL checking. Don't worry about what you've already changed though, as we do have a full log of changes.
I'm hoping for a speedy completion of the project too. There's a possibility of collaborating with Doki Fansubs to accelerate things, but it hasn't been finalised yet.
Thanks again!

Spanish translation?

Hello Polarem. From what what I understand you are now the main guy for this project. I have asked previously (although unanswered) if you guys were willing to do a spanish translation. I'm know spanish considering my background, but the best I can do is translate from english to spanish and not japanese to spanish. Considering that english and spanish are not so different, would it make a huge difference if I can use the english script? What are your thoughts on this? Xangel 13:03, 29 May 2012 (CDT)
