Radio host: We’ve been playing this song since the start of this week, so we’ve gotten some nice feedback in just as we thought we would! Here’s one from Yuuchan-san, from the Department of Science and Engineering:

“It’s the first time I’ve ever heard Todokanai Koi, but I instantly fell in love with the song! The heartrending lyrics, gentle melody, and crystal clear vocals form a wonderful harmony. It’s so lonesome but so warm at the same time, I just can’t put the feeling into words. By the way, would it be possible to get this song on a CD or something? It being exclusive to our school and faculty is nice and all, but it’s such a shame that we can only hear it on this program, during this season. Could you do something about it?”

Hmmm… Well, to tell you the truth, this is far from the first time we’ve gotten this request from you guys. We tried getting in touch with the responsible people once, but we were completely rejected. Here’s what the former Light Music Club’s president had to comment on the issue at the time:

“Todokanai Koi is a very personal and emotional song created by and for the members of the former Light Music Club alone. Thus, we have no plans to modify or publicize the song, nor do we see any merit in doing so. I’m happy that it’s getting such nice feedback, but there’s really no point in playing it anywhere other than Houjou FM. And besides… I’m sure that there’s no way the members we had back then will ever assemble again.”

30			肌に貼りついたＴシャツを強引に脱ぎ捨てると、 洗面所に飛び込み、シャワーの蛇口を一気に捻る。	After forcing off the wet T-shirt that had stuck to my skin, I rush into the bathroom and immediately turn on the shower tap.
31			出始めの冷水も、 設定温度になる直前に噴き出す熱湯も、 余すところなく頭から思いっきりかぶる。	Caring for neither the initial splash of cold water nor the subsequent, brief sensation of hot water before the shower reaches its set temperature, I thoroughly soak myself, starting from my head.
32			その都度、肌から受ける強烈な刺激が、 麻酔のように俺の思考を奪い去り、 けれど体だけ目覚めさせてくれることを望んで。	Each time I receive those intense sensations through my skin, I pray that they wake up my body while numbing the thoughts emerging in my mind right now.

38			一緒に奏でて、一緒に馬鹿やって、一緒に笑って、 そんな、かけがえのない三人の時を過ごした三年前。	We performed on stage together, we did stupid things together and we laughed together. The irreplaceable past that the three of us share, dating back three years ago.
39			ちょっとだけ、紆余曲折はあったけど、 おおむね順調にお互いの気持ちが近づいて、 言葉と気持ちと唇が触れあった三年前。	Although there were a couple of twists and turns, we managed to understand each other in the end, as our words, passions, and lips drew closer to each other -- all of that happened three years ago.

42			三年前の、はにかんだ悪戯っぽい笑顔は、 この三年間で、無理と我慢と諦めを重ねた、 泣きそうな笑顔に塗り潰されていった。	Her bashful and mischievous smile from three years ago has disappeared, and a tearful smile, born from her three years of enduring, giving up and pushing herself to the edge, is painted in its place.

44			嫌味なくらい、ますます綺麗になっていく。	She's becoming more and more beautiful — almost infuriatingly so.
45			付属の頃、綺麗で、可憐で、愛らしかった雪菜は、 今は、凄みを感じるくらい綺麗な女になっていた。	Setsuna, who was already pretty, sweet, and charming during high school, has now become even more of an astounding beauty.
46			三年前よりずっと、 一昨年よりずっと、 去年より、ずっと。	Even more so than three years ago. Even more so than one year ago. And even more so than just earlier this year.
47			あの頃と比べ、あまり表に出なくなったにも関わらず、 あの頃以上に周囲の注目を浴びる存在になっていた。	Since that time, while she's almost never revealed her true self, she still remains as much of a striking existence as ever to those around her.

50			俺のために、俺の目の前でいつでも笑ってた。 本当の心が透けて見えるくらいに、 寂しい笑顔で笑ってた。	She continued to force herself to smile for me. I felt as if she could see straight through my heart with her lonesome smile.
51			それでも、笑うことをやめなかった。 そして、ずっと俺の側にいてくれようとした。	Even so, her smile never faded. She remained by my side the entire time.

60			徐々に、徐々に頭の中を切り替えて、 何も考えずに眠れるようになって一週間。	In the past week, I've steadily tried to exert my brain completely, working myself to exhaustion so that I wouldn't have time to think about it.
61			なのに結局、たった一度、 その切ない笑顔を見てしまっただけで、 全てを水泡に帰すくらい、俺はまだ引きずってる。	And yet in the end, all it took was another glimpse of Setsuna's miserable smile for all of my efforts to go to waste, and I've been pulled back into the past.
62			…なぁ、雪菜。	...Oh, Setsuna...
63			いつになったら憎んでくれるんだよ？	When will you start hating me?

111			俺が顎で指し示した方を見て、 ようやく武也もことの顛末を理解したようだった。	As Takeya turns to the direction of which I've pointed my chin at, he seems to finally understand what I've been impying
112			懐かしの、付属の制服。 その制服に身を包み、人待ち顔の女のコ。	The nostalgic uniform of our high school; and the girl wearing it, who appears to be waiting for someone.
113			いや、人待ち顔だったのはついさっきまで。 武也の顔を見た途端『見つけた』の顔に切り替わったから。	No, waiting for someone would be an accurate description only up until a short moment ago — her expression has since shifted to that of one that says "I've found you" as she noticed Takeya's face.
114	武也	Takeya	「あれは…」	"That's..."
115	春希	Haruki	「あ～あ、なんか怒ってるぞ？ だからそろそろ、せめて三人以下には 絞り込めとあれほど」	"Aah, man. She seems really mad, right? Didn't I tell you to keep it under three women at a time?"
116			その表情に切り替わったなら、後はお馴染みの光景だ。	Given her change of expression, what happens next should be some sort of déjà vu.
117			この後、武也の前で泣くかすがるか怒るか罵るか… そういえば、いきなり頬を張られることもあったっけ。	After this, she'll either be crying and clinging onto Takeya or angrily yelling at him... Come to think of it, there was that one time where he was immediately slapped across the cheek.
118			ま、でも、こういう状況は俺も慣れたもの。 あっさりと聞こえないふりしてそっぽを向き、 聞いてるだけで胸焼けがしそうな痴話喧嘩を聞き流す。	Oh well. I'm used to such scenarios, nevertheless. I should be capable of turning my head and pretend not to hear anything, all the while ignoring any nauseating content of their lover's quarrel that does manage to slip through my ears.
119			そして、いつの間にか泣き顔が笑顔に変わった女の子を 武也が見送った後、おもむろに肩を叩き、 『お前もそろそろ…』の説教タイム。	And when Takeya sees the girl off after changing her crying face to a smile after who knows how long, the time for me lecturing him with something along the lines of "It's about time you..." would ensue after gently patting his shoulder.
120	武也	Takeya	「いや、ちょっと待て。 その言いつけを守ってると突っぱねるつもりはないけど、 あのコの顔に覚えがないってことだけは言わせてくれ」	"No, wait a minute. I don't plan on either confirming or denying your accusations, but let me just say that I have absolutely no idea who that girl is."

123			その顔は完全に怒りに満ちていて、 でも、だからこそ少しだけ安心する。 …泣かれるより、よっぽど楽だから。	Her face is obviously filled with rage, but it's because of that expression that I feel somewhat reassured. ...It's a better response than having to see a girl cry, anyway.
