@Aorii
@Idvtho : Not quite as varied or diverse as I would like. But in addition to the usual, I know people with Gender Identity Disorder whose seriously researched the implications of changing gender, and one of my beta-readers is a Ph.D. in psychology/education specializing in youth development. That count? ^^
I was not trying to challenge your authority, Aorii, but you have to bring out the big gun. And now my expectation is high up in heaven. I will look forward to some real life-shattering realization and professional psychological analysis. Keep up the good work.
As you walk down the aisle, someone hands you a survey, beginning with: "Assume your gender is suddenly reversed, what would you..."
Hmmmm.... Sound like the kind of event that will spark an(-other) interesting light novel. Will try that out next time I run out of stuff to read.
<sarcasm>Sinner! You dare trend upon the realm of god!?</sarcasm>
</no sarcasm> I can't believe you did not realize this, but to the world of Hyperion, you are god. Just because something does not exist in reality does not mean it is not real, you know. </no sarcasm>

I was to write an essay on this point, but nothing could ever come close to your idea of "Both-ways functional hermaphrodite". You are certainly deserved to call yourself a genius, not to mention the courage it takes to say such thing out loud. By the way, have you considered putting in a link to some explanation, so that the younger generation can share your vision?

@Himeko
In Japan, the herbivore men have created a contrary effect. When more women than men want to marry, competition among females intensifies while the carnivore men relax.
Interesting phenomenon. Do you have any suggestion on how to replicate the condition to where I am living?. Maybe it has something to do with "Both-ways functional hermaphrodite"?

Anyway, good job on the new chapter, Aorii. Certainly make a good day perfect. Kaede's fight remind me of my most memorable scene in "white house down", where the young girl stop the air strike by waving a flag (I was so proud of her it almost made me decide that my first child must be a girl). The last paragraph is also a nice touch, switching the mood from high-strung fighting to a more relaxing, humorous vibe.

Traditionally the wife also controls finances, even if the husband earns 100% of the income. That was supposed to protect the family from vices like drinking and gambling, and it seemed to work, but in modern Japan it also gives women a lot of the real decision making power. Many salarymen in manga will complain that their lunch allowance (lol yes that's a normal thing) is barely enough, and can be seen eating cup ramen at their desks. He's only a nominal emperor ;-)

Of course, not all families will be traditional.
Anyway. If too much testosterone makes you stupid and too much estrogen makes you bitchy... the middle way is the way to go? Both-ways functional hermaphrodite?
If that's the way of the future, I'm out.

lol

If you don't like your country's ladies, just leave your country and go somewhere with ladies you like more. I'm strongly considering it. By the way, Japanese women really are the most popular in the world, if men on dating sites accurately represent all other men.
I often wonder what the marriage culture in Soviet Union after WWII was like. Since (1) communism believes very strongly in gender equality for its time but (2) the gender ratio was massively skewed (more than any other modern period) due to the heavy losses in men during the war.
I'll make a wild guess: A small pool of people were very competitive, going for the best mates they could, while the others didn't change their behavior from what they learned as children. Because both the men and women had been strictly adhering to the same thought patterns their entire lives, they found partners much the same way their parents did. The leftover women who couldn't adapt to the situation simply didn't marry.

If someone can find more information on the subject, Aorii and I would appreciate it.

I wouldn't call it "my vision", but alright... Spoiler contains mentions of fetish material, so if you're easily offended or too young, don't open it.
Spoiler! :
In Japanese porn comics/hentai, there is one fetish called "Futanari", or "Futa" for short. A Futanari is basically about a woman with an added-on penis. Balls are optional. So are additional penises. Google should help if you want a rough idea, otherwise I suggest a decently stocked hentai provider... I guess? Art styles vary from decent to.... more or less deformed. Depictions can be rather extreme.

Apparently it's spread to (or individually developed in) Western porn comics, too, but I don't know anything about that.
That being said, this is not the place to openly have such discussions. Though discussing possible roots could be interesting... ANYWAY. At least until Aorii decides to introduce such a character or.... IDEA! Aorii, we need to talk!

I know about it, do not like. Anyway, ldvtho, you will not be able to replicate a sexual market with more available females by turning some people into futas...WTF is going on in your head? :shock:

That quite the extreme (and belated?) reaction... I don't think that was his idea. It seems he just didn't know the concept, that's all.

Can we get back to Daybreak now?

Disgusted by futanari porn, but not angry or offended. We are all anime nerds after all.

Better to start an off-topic thread.

What I know of that particular Japanese fetish bothers me quite a bit so please drop all discussion over it ^^"

@Idvtho:
I've actually read a fanfiction written with professional psychoanalysis (hpmor.com -- author specialize in cognitive thinking, actually). The hard academic parts tends to be extremely dry to the average reader so I can't say I'm a fan. Basic/soft analysis is highest I'm willing to go xP

@Murtadha:
Thank you for your encouragement and I hope you continue to enjoy it <(^^< )

@Himeko:
Yeah the woman-controls-budgeting isn't rare for most of East Asia but it seems particular predominant in Japan. It makes sense since the wife is expected to handle most of the daily lifestyle upkeep (shopping, bills, etc) anyways. But supposedly, for major decisions (i.e. relocation) the guy still retains more say, which leads to a somewhat odd dynamic...
Maybe they have an executive vs legislature relationship XD

Wow, guys. The first half of my previous post was meant to be a collection of short jokes. Please don't take it seriously. I am sorry those jokes were inappropriate. I will be more careful next time.

Next chapter(s) seems to be getting delayed by German final exams XD
(They haven't been sufficiently hammered by editing/betafeedback yet to be satisfactory...)

@ldvtho : it's a little hard to recognize if it's a joke or not in your writing style XD but no worries

Really? No one find it funny?? Not even a little bit??!! No one??!!!! FINE, I will go back to my corner and cry. (well, in case you are wondering, I am kidding. "Real man" do not cry. They kick asses. Even if sometimes it is their own ass they are kicking.)

Speaking of "real man", do you think it would be a good idea for us reader to know more about the guy Kaede was before all this happen to "him" ?. Your new chapter make it clear who "she" is, and I think it might be interesting to see how this whole thing has change "him" into "her".

Btw, correct me if I am wrong, but I think your novel pass the "Bechdel test". :D .

@ldvtho
It was amusing, I admit =P

I plan to have Kaede about it a bit soon enough. There's just a little too many things on the agenda of "needing to talk about". ^^"
Gender issues, life issues, relationship issues, war issues, blarg. Ghosty/Ahmsab both pointed out that the war is coming on really fast. Unfortunately, once Pascal's father went at the conclusion to vol1... to quote (iirc) Gandalf: "Things are now in motion; they cannot be undone." I needed to get past the first battle before there's a legitimate chance to talk things out -- because troops are now exhausted enough to need R&R. ^_^

(I will not sidequest before saving the world... [mission: build a hot springs]... darnit Japan)

I actually had to look Bechdel up. Shameful I know! But of course Daybreak would pass it XD I did design female characters with their own life ambitions and not just as waifus! Their preferences are something more than just to look cute to the male readers! =P

(By the way, I can honestly say that Daybreak won't fail the Vito Russo Test either [saw it at bottom of wiki page]. And no, has nothing to do with Kaede herself.)

I honestly hope Kaede ends up with a girl as her romantic partner. But this is just my personal hopes for her, mainly because I think it would be pretty interesting.

Also, I am really loving the story, it's super interesting and had me hooked after that first chapter in volume one~! Keep up the wonderful work. :3

Began to read the 1st volume at 6pm ... had to read it 'till the end before going to sleep... ( I just finished :evil: )

So it's GOOOOOD !! So good that it could make me cry over some translation which can be read on BT (I'm not native english speaker but reading a novel in "clean english" is rather refreshing :o )

On the "critic" part, i found rather amusing your focus on semi-precious stones for eye colors :mrgreen:
That's all for that volume, I'll read the next chapters 'till sunday ;-)
