I think they did a good job mixing it up. (ME1 x SAO v8 c1)
But then they cut out a lot of stuff and that's bad.
They're hurrying through too fast. They should just extend it to 39 eps (or even better, 51 eps. And include everything including GGO and Mother's Rosario with an extension ready for UW).
I really hate story butchers. I don't mind them adding new arcs and fixing small details but removing huge chunks is just wrong. Take Aria. They could have kept everything and done damage control by changing the dialogue's where Asuna tells about falling in love with Kirito. Something like, she began admiring him after the events of Aria and fell in love with him after v8c1. It would have worked better that way.
implying that they have unlimited budget?

Re: SAO Anime Discussion Thread
Well my guess is that with the way they're eating up plot space with these Side Stories, they intend to do "Aincrad"/"SAO" Arc in the first 12-13 episodes. I won't call it butchered since it's following the timeline...but I kind of agree with Zero2001's comment that they could have used the plot volumes for the actual series and used the Side Stories for OVA's. It would have kept the pace and tension up.
Most Animes that are adapted from LN's, use 3-4 episodes per Volume. We all know this and kind of expected it. But thanks to Kawahara-sensei's enormous amount of side stories and filler material that fill in gaps within the main plot timeline, this is what we get. I think the whole of the 25 episodes will contain only "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance" since those are what made up the entirety of the "escape from the killer game" plot. They have to do at least that much, because of Asuna, or it'll be left unended like the "Prism Ark" anime.
So as long as they're aiming for that much, I'll just follow along and enjoy watching events go by in order of the timeline.

Episode 6's preview came out. We've got a shot of Laughing Coffin's emblem:
Also, it seems that Lisa had sung SAO's OP song "Crossing Field" in the opening ceremony of LA's Anime Expo 2012 last June. How the heck did I miss that? o.O

First ever shot of PoH hooray for the wiki, I mean we don't got anything on that guy for the wiki. That aside, in terms of plot, I give them an 8/10 since they still did the plot well enough that people get it.
Also on behalf of the wiki we thank you for the timeline, if we haven't already.

It's a very nice way to end the SS, what Asuna said in the last scene wasn't in LN if I recalled correctly.
And the next episode will be Warmth of the Heart.
@Misogi
Yolko was in plain English in one scene, it was brief though, gonna confirm with the proper raw later.

Ugh, what kind of name is Yolko? It's like a combination of Yolk, and O, like Jell-O, except that it sounds more egg-ish

Hahaha, at least the name of main characters doesn't change much, Yolko won't appear anymore anyway. I'm a bit scared about Suguha ALO name though, hope it's not something like Reefa.
Can't wait 1 more week for my favorite Aincrad SS...

I found that scene pretty funny, having read the book translations in publishing order. But it would be probably-inappropriate foreshadowing in chronological order.Pryun wrote:THey skipped out heathcliff completely. not that he actually served any purpose.... aside from having a meal with them
I guess the Laughing Coffin parting comments that were cut fall under the same category. I laughed when reading it, but it probably shouldn't be shown chronologically. Same for a certain game mechanics conversation that got cut.
