That's the bookmark feature, currently there is no way to disable it.
Any chance you could add a way to disable/toggle it in the settings? I seem to accidentally activate the bookmark feature a lot while scrolling down, and its quite distracting.

I was going overseas and i had no network access. I was reading a novel that i downloaded beforehand but when i locked my Samsung Galaxy S2 and unlocked it again, the screen went white. I could still see the next, previous, current chapter and the zoom in and out buttons. I could not view the page if i don't refresh it. This occurred while i had network and was solved by re-downloading the novel. But since i was on flight mode and had no network, i couldn't re-download the chapter.

This repeatedly happened to different chapters that i tried to view. I only fixed this problem once when i bookmarked the page then went to view the chapter from bookmarks, otherwise the page remained white and this fixed only worked ONCE. I was wondering if this problem occurred for other people as well.

Weird, usually if the page going blank, it is because the WebView failed to render the page (dunno what is the cause). Try to restart the phone?

I tried shutting down the application from task manager, clearing the task with clear memory, restarting phone, shutting down then starting the phone. None of these work if the page goes white.

Occasionally it can get fixed by just clicking on a different chapter when restarting the application.

How hard would it be to implement custom text and background colors for the chapters?

I found a fix that works better then restarting the phone or application. If you go to the menu and click Jump to and select the chapter that's white, then theres a good chance that the page will get refreshed despite not having internet. I am overseas and i don't have a sim card with my Samsung Galaxy S2 and i only have wifi at home or in train stations.

Change Log for v20121215:
  • Add fullscreen option for reading.
  • Add option to disable bookmark.
  • Add check if zoom > 0%, this might be the cause of white screen...

Change Log for v20121219:
  • Change application name and icon.
APK: http://www.mediafire.com/?ay3p20zl2n1y3vy

Not really an update, just changing the application name to BakaReader EX based on the poll result, the icon still a temporary tough...
Now go and bother erakk to compile and upload the apk to Google Play, as he is the one who have access to it :D

On the app, if you use the Last Read function, switch to a different chapter using next or previous and put the phone to sleep, it'll only load the chapter you first went to for Last Read, not the chapter you were on.
Just a small glitch.
Perhaps you could include an 'awake' mode that prevents the phone from going to sleep? It should be possible to toggle it on and off in settings as well.
Just a small suggestion as there haven't been many of late.

I'll do that. Getting ready to upload some other google play stuuff for the app.
Also i game myself a Galaxy S3 as a self-xmas present... Yahoo.
The icon is a difficult matter. But i found a way to deal with it: my RL friend.

Happy Holidays!!

EDIT: @Bloodscythe - i guess the fix is to set the window flag to stay awake.

Also i intend to (as in, i'll try to) change some Interface designs without troubling Nandaka's coding so it gets more stylish. I just deployed my first android app on google play (my job) and we have a designer so it was easy to just say "dude make me a button like this and this" and 3 minutes later there it was. But that's for the end of january. And i hopefully deploy the app with a new icon, since thats what i was looking forward the most without success =(.
In theory, practice and theory are the same.
but, practically, they arent.

Changing the UI without changing the back end code should be easy. Most of the loading is done by asynctask which will call getResult() method on parent activity which implement the interface.

Btw I'm on vacation until January, if there us any bugs / feature request please put it on GitHub for easy tracking :)

Just wanted to say thanks for your work on this app and the open nature of the development. I didn't notice any license information on the GitHub repo (a lot of projects leave this off)... so just checking how open your code is :?: . I'd like to create a Baka Reader app for WP8 and use this codebase for inspiration.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas :D

I've been getting a weird glitch? where it says the last time a novel was updated was in 1970..
I'm pretty sure that this is a glitch and that the last a time a novel was updated was NOT in 1970. It seems to apply to most teasers and to only some novels. I'm not sure if this applies to everyone as our differences in time zones might be the cause. I'm not really sure.

Either the novel is never updated or the updater failed to parse the datetime from baka-tsuki. Try to manually download the novel (long press on novel name in the teaser page), Can you give the novel name?

No license defined yet. For me, you can use the project in GitHub as reference as long you give credit to us :D

It appears that downloading the novel details does indeed work for the update(1970) glitch. However, it works on the teasers ONLY. These three novels will always have a last updated time of 1970 regardless of whether you have downloaded the novel details or not: Bakemonogatari, Kampfer and Dai Densetsu no Yusha no Densetsu.
