It was early morning in the city of swords and sorcery known as Temple School City.

Witch-in-training and exam student Viocia Modestlucky picked something up on the way to her prep school. The white clump of cloth lying on the ground was a nun.

Viocia wasn’t at all aware, but the nun was Grimoire Library Index.

“I’m hungry.”

“That’s a great skill! There are a lot of girls who can’t eat anything in the morning, but my teacher says it’s better to eat something. That’s common knowledge when it comes to the witch entrance exam!”

“If you claim to be a witch, then surely you can use a cauldron. Before they dumped the contents of the cauldron on the ground as an agricultural ritual, it was an elementary but secret technique used to feed all the participants of the Witches’ Sabbath at once!”

“We just met, so why are you giving me an exam prep lesson!? A-are you actually a headache curse in a habit?”

“This is common knowledge when it comes to magic.”

“Ugh… What’s with this girl? Is she some formidable rival who’s memorized a ton of grimoires or something?”

“Why would we be rivals? But I do have 103,001 grimoires memorized.”

“Do you need to know that much about magic to be a witch!? Th-the path to Maleficium is a lot longer than I thought!”

“I’m still hungry.”

“But why is it I get the feeling even I could outdo you on the exam?”

At any rate, it was feeding time.

Viocia patted her dress with her small palms, dug through her pockets, and flipped over her pointy witch hat to look inside.

“If you’re so hungry, I’ll give you some breakfast. But where did I put my witch recipe?”

“Boo. I can’t bite into that thick parchment.”

“Here we go. Happy Halloween!”

As soon as Viocia waved her broom, colorful smoke poofed out and something appeared in her hand.

“Tah dah! A short stack of pancakes – a breakfast classic!!”

“Wha-!? D-did you just produce manna out of nothing? But that’s a Biblical-level supernatural phenomenon. And all you had to do was wave your wand?”

“Hm? My teacher says people don’t have any magic power in them.”

“You’re confusing Biblical manna with Polynesian mana.”

“???”

Index’s eyes were glued to the thick pancakes. She equipped them to her hands like they were a burger and took a big bite.

“Munch, munch. I was worried when you said you were a witch, but if you can make food appear, are you actually an ancient worshiper of a harvest god? Maybe a priestess to a wheat goddess or fishing goddess?”

“Why does everyone ask me these complicated questions when it isn’t even study time?”

“Whatever the case, I’m glad you aren’t a participant in the blasphemous Black Mass.”

“Oh, I’ve learned all about doing the Black Mass. It’s part of the Aspect of Amorality, one of the Three Aspects.”

“Bffff!!?”

Index chocked on the pancakes in her mouth.

Viocia tilted her head.

“Come to think of it, we have Demon Lords in this world, but I’m not sure we have any goddesses.”
