“The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft Herb Correspondences. I’m pretty sure I saw this at my grandma’s house too, but I left and it would taken too long to head all the way back there.”

“Wha-!? You mean you have two copies of this world-famous rare book!? The book said to be a favorite of the Queen of the Night, Darkness, and Love at the top of the Limit Breakers? At this point, I just know it has to be useful for the entrance exam.”

Yagoro had wondered how a dunce like Viocia knew the title of that rare book, but this explained it.

With the item she wanted in Viocia’s hands, they were taking a break. While Viocia had bought it, she was letting Melehe and Dorothea read it and take notes on parchment. In a fantasy world where book copying was common, the idea of digital shoplifting was not frowned upon.

That aside, it was time for lunch.

The flea market had become a vast labyrinth of shelves and bookcases, but there were occasional empty spaces with no sellers. They decided to lay out a cloth in one of those and eat their food.

“Huhh? You have a packed lunch too, Viocia?”

“Heh heh. Moloch learned to cook!”

Viocia’s basket contained grilled chicken and vegetable sandwiches. The main dish in Dorothea’s lunchbox was a big water bottle full of a vegetable-filled consomme soup she poured into a bowl.

“Dorothea, I’ll trade you a sandwich for something!”

“Eep. Th-then how about a bowl of soup?”

Melehe and Strena went with the standard(?) instant food. They waved their brooms and pulled out tomato pasta and a shrimp pilaf.

Yagoro used one hand to eat a tuna and potato crepe he had bought at a food stand nearby.

“Witches can also be called spellcasters who create something from something,” he said.

“?”

“Whether it’s herbs or animal bones, humans must sacrifice something to create what they need. So it makes a lot of sense for Moloch, a symbol of sacrifice, to be cooking, don’tcha think? It can be easy to forget with ingredients processed into cubes or a paste, but the food you eat and the herbs used to heal your wounds are all made from other plants and animals. The skill of a witch is seen in how much they can increase the conversion rate from 1-to-1. And make sure you thank the things used to create what you consume.”
