There was no point in Viocia and Melehe challenging the millions or billions of Dracae to an aerial battle.

But if they destroyed the ten lances stabbed into different parts of Temple School City, they could stop the commands being sent to the Dracae.

However, that wasn’t enough to rest easy.

The Dracae covering the sky hadn’t attacked anyone on the ground yet, but the defeated Benandanti were crashing into the ground in their thick armor. A hit from one of them was still a threat to Viocia and Melehe as they ran along the ground.

“Viocia, watch out above. An elevator’s collapsing!!”

“!?”

Had the Dracae slammed into it as a group to bend the metal pillar?

Viocia somehow managed to escape from below the giant scales elevator as it fell, crushing a nearby house in the process.

She couldn’t afford to be taken out here.

If Viocia and Melehe didn’t find and eliminate the lances controlling all those Dracae, Dorothea would be hurt while acting as a diversion for them. Injured Strena was still lying in that empty house and, while the Dracae were artificial familiars, they would destroy themselves by the millions or billions if this was allowed to continue.

Viocia couldn’t let that happen. She had to stop the tragic domino effect here.

“This way, Viocia! Get down!!”

The rules changed again. The Dracae swarm attacked them while they ran along the ground. And the Dracae suddenly scattered only a few meters over Viocia and Melehe’s heads. The roe-sized purple orbs lost sight of their targets and floated aimlessly around.

“Yikes! Th-they stopped attacking?”

“I drew out a big obstruction magic circle on the ground. That should stop any familiars that fight in automatic mode because they’ll read in the dangerous 2D symbol when they try to scan the terrain!”

Anyway, they couldn’t stop here.

Viocia and Melehe forced themselves to keep running through the panicked Temple School City.

“Where’s that first lance?”

“Found it!! It’s over there!!”

Something was stabbed into the stone pavement.

It was a silver lance measuring more than 2m long.

“ATU 0328a, Jack and the Beanstalk. The boy’s axe mercilessly cuts through the massive beanstalk which is compared to Yggdrasil!!”

Melehe gripped her customized broom and recited an incantation.

Magic power broke the lance at the middle of its shaft.

One down.

But only one.
