==Things needing verification:== Whether Wiki Supervisors need to be contacted for Teaser Projects AND/OR if they need to send an email to TLG. The original forum post was unclear about this, because Teaser Projects weren't accounted for in that structure. There's a bunch of changes coming, since the sidebar is going to go poof. Hence, we need this to be updated to whatever our new policy is. :I don't recall any ground rules laid down for teasers. Teasers allow people to post part of any part of the novel and being a teaser, no one expects them to get completed either. :And adding on, I'm pretty sure no one contacts Wiki Supervisors nor email TLG for most of our current running projects. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 18:20, 2 February 2014 (CST) ==Teaser vs Pending Status== KuroiHikari, what do you think about '''[[Baka-Tsuki_talk:About|zzhk's opinion about Teaser/Pending]]'''? I think I like his idea. Basically, any project that is not a Full Project is a Teaser Project. Once a Teaser reaches the requirements to become a Full Project, it gets added to the Pending category (so Oni can review), and if it gets approved, it becomes a full project? [[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 22:19, 4 February 2014 (CST) :I don't really want the term Teaser to mark the start of a project. One is aimed at zero commitment and the other requires a lot. The issue can be simplified by requiring content to be uploaded on the wiki at the same time a project page is created (ATP's time limit would then be pointless), because I don't see much merit in having a project page without any content. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 06:54, 7 February 2014 (CST) ::Well of course. Why would we want an empty project page? I actually thought most people uploaded their teaser nearly at the same time as when they made the project page. [[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 08:34, 7 February 2014 (CST) :::I've argued with someone about Log Horizon's project page before. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 09:35, 7 February 2014 (CST) I just wanted to get your opinion on what's the difference between a "Teaser" and a "Pending" Project. Don't these groups kind of overlap? All Teasers are kind of "Pending Projects", right, simply because they're not full projects. I don't think there's anything in the term "Pending Project" that implies a lot of commitment. Pending just means it's not a Full Project yet. [[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 08:34, 7 February 2014 (CST) :Teasers allow stuff such as a translated page(maybe more than a page) in the middle of a chapter. One can assume that nothing of a teaser will ever be completed. In that sense, teasers are not expected to be full projects. For that reason, I do not want Teaser to be Step 1 of starting a full project. It's meant to be a parallel process.--[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 09:35, 7 February 2014 (CST) :Well, KH seems to have a pretty firm opinion, but I agree with the other side of the argument. The only real difference between the two is the intent of the translator to continue. From the perspective of the reader, both types have only a limited amount to read. People are fickle, so I like setting categories by results rather than intents. And I think many people don't really understand that difference or don't care to use it (current examples of things that should be "pending" based on translator intent but aren't would be Strike the Blood and Black Bullet). So I favor simplifying the system by having only two categories, full projects and everything else. --[[User:Cthaeh|Cthaeh]] ([[User talk:Cthaeh|talk]]) 20:37, 7 February 2014 (CST) ::Isn't this about the guidelines?--[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 22:05, 7 February 2014 (CST) :::I'm assuming you're questioning the relevancy of my comments regarding categories on a page about guidelines? But aren't the guidelines what provide the definition for the three "categories" in question (full, pending, teaser)? That was my perspective anyways. Oh well, back to reading... --[[User:Cthaeh|Cthaeh]] ([[User talk:Cthaeh|talk]]) 22:19, 7 February 2014 (CST) ::::We're laying out the guidelines to creating projects. And, creating a teaser to create a full project sticks out like a sore thumb. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 22:22, 7 February 2014 (CST) So KH, on the topic of creating a new project page, should people tag their new project page with '''Category:Teaser''' or '''Category:Pending''' or both? Also, at what points should people remove these respective tags? --[[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 23:13, 7 February 2014 (CST) :They'll just tag with the ATP template, which has Pending tagged. They shouldn't remove the tag themselves. My opinion is that since it's still at a creation stage whether it gets tagged or not isn't important. It shouldn't take too long before it gets approved and tagged proper-project's tag. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 23:23, 7 February 2014 (CST) ::What is the proper project tag? The Full Project tag? But what about the new translators who never finish the whole chapter and vanish after like 30%? [[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 23:28, 7 February 2014 (CST) :::Light Novel(English) is representing the full project tag, right? It stays untagged or something, anyway, that's an administrative issue. Also, another reason to not tag teaser to create a full project, people would think it's all right to just disappear. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 23:37, 7 February 2014 (CST) :::That's a pretty big issue. We can't leave anything untagged. No one will ever be able to locate it, which means no one will ever be able to pick it up future. Can't we just settle on saying if a full chapter isn't completed after like 2-3 weeks, Wiki Supervisors (or anyone) automatically add the teaser tag to it? Teasers are pretty much any Project with an incomplete (not-full chapter) translation, right? [[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 23:41, 7 February 2014 (CST) I guess we can do that. --[[User:KuroiHikari|KuroiHikari]] ([[User_talk:KuroiHikari|Talk]] | ) 23:58, 7 February 2014 (CST) ==Project Approval to Official Project (in a sidebar-less system== In the past, all projects went past Oni/DarkoNeko's eyes because they needed to be added to the sidebar. Since the sidebar is going away (and is going to be replaced with categories that have the approved projects/pending project tags), how are we going to dictate how a new project is upgraded to a full project? Can contributors just categorize the project to Full Project Status themselves? Or should they be disallowed from doing that in the rules? How will this work? --[[User:Cloudii|Cloudii]] ([[User talk:Cloudii|talk]]) 23:13, 7 February 2014 (CST) == New Guidelines Suggestion - A tl;dr of it == Want to start a new novel translation project? Here's brief summary of how to do it! # Prepare translations! The first step is to show the readers an excerpt of the novel in question, so you should translate a chapter before creating a page for it. # Look at the project pages in the sidebar, and create one for your novel. Here's a template. # Create a thread [https://www.baka-tsuki.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=23 here] to see what others think of your work, in order to get feedback. # If you want to keep working on it to get your project promoted to a main project, complete at least a volume of your seriesǃ When you're done with that volume, add a <nowiki>[[Category:Pending Authorisation]]</nowiki> to your project page and ask [[Help:Administration Contact Page|here]] for someone to approve it. A few notes * Obviously, do not plagiarize or link without other people's consent * Web Novels and Original Light Novels have some specific guidelines, so you may want to check [[Baka-Tsuki:New_Project_Startup_Guidelines|this page]] for more details. * Contact us or post in the forums if you have things you don't understand! You can also take a look [[Baka-Tsuki:New_Project_Startup_Guidelines|here]] to read the complete instructions.
