==Character Introduction== Could someone translate the character introduction first because it's quite hard to keep up with the sheer number of characters in the novel --Decemdies 15:41, 18 November 2011 (CST) Since the translators are busy irl (including myself), you can use the character infodump for the time being. (Credits to Zeroblade).--Suiri Megami Alice 05:13, 18 November 2011 (CST) Oh yeah, now that's a lot of help. Thanks(Zeroblade too).--Decemdies 13:58, 25 November 2011 (CST) ==Editing required?== Just wondering whether you need an editor to look over the translated sections and improve on the sentences and everything like that. If you do, i'll try to look through what's been translated so far, though i really can't keep to a regular schedule, so if you do accept my help, at best it'd be quite infrequent, especially during school. But yeah, it all depends on whether you'd like my help or not. Skarlath 07:06, 2 December 2011 (CST) Please yes. I'm begging you on my knees. Fix my Japanglish. -YoakeNoHikari 17:58, 2 December 2011 (CST) Ahahah well ok then, i'll start immediately after exams finish, which is in a couple of days time. So sometime next weekend i'll try to see what i can do. But i'm going to remind you again, i'm not the best at sticking to a schedule... Skarlath 21:43, 2 December 2011 (CST) Yeah, like I'm awesome at sticking to a schedule, (what schedule?) At any rte, I have exams too, so I'm not really going to be t/ling; take your time : ) -YoakeNoHikari 01:39, 3 December 2011 (CST) Well anyways, please take a look at the discussion page for the prologue...and i'd like all translators for this series to look at it and tell me what you think. Skarlath 08:08, 3 December 2011 (CST) == Need Another Editor? == Hey there I'd like to help with this project, I just graduated from High-School, Iwork a couple times a week and I've got enough free time to Edit the Bible long text that is this prject so if you need any any extra help I'm available.-Nightmare637 == Resuming? == I hope that with the coming of the second anime season this project gets resumed... == still in progress? == Is the translation still in active progress? ^ Imwaski (talk) 01:17, 4 September 2013 (CDT) == Light novel? == Are you sure they fall into this category? Length-wise, they are technically doorstoppers... --Kemm (talk) 06:23, 16 September 2013 (CDT) Oh no, they're light in the sense that reading them will make you enlightened. A Buddha of skintight suits~ --Nackbjorn (talk) 10:31, 1 January 2014 (CST) Technically the "light" part of the term Light Novel refers to the relative complexity of the kanji, not length , something Middle-schoolers and High-schoolers should be able to read. That said, I hear this series is called "The Dictionary".SonodaYuki (talk) 19:27, 2 January 2014 (CST) == Is it too late to edit chapters that have already been collected into epub form? == I just started trying my hand at editing, and I've seen a few typos in the first and second volumes but I don't want to mess them up if they're supposed to be "frozen" now. --Txtracer (talk) 01:52, 16 November 2014 (CST) Don't worry, you can edit all you want, we can make a new version of the ePUB after that. I was thinking to do a new editing, so you will have my gratitude if you fix the bad grammar and typos there. Strike Forcer (talk) 07:02, 19 November 2014 (CST) :I'll jump on those as soon as I get through with 3-A, unless you'd like me to tackle them sooner. Just let me know. --Txtracer (talk) 20:59, 21 November 2014 (CST) == English [UK] vs. English [US] == Is there a preference for one method of spelling over the other? Whichever one is chosen, it should probably be consistently followed...being American I'm not an expert on UK spellings but I'll do my best if that's the preference. --Txtracer (talk) 03:38, 6 December 2014 (CST) :I think that js06 uses US spellings. Strike Forcer (talk) 10:15, 7 December 2014 (CST) == Sommelier vs. Connoisseur == I've noticed that the translators have been using "sommelier" a lot to describe Toori's boob fixation. A Sommelier is someone who is able to analyze and classify wines by sense of smell. I think the term Connoisseur is more likely to be what was intended; a connoisseur is someone who is an expert and enthusiast on some subject, and Toori is certainly that when it comes to mammary glands. :You can blame Kawakami for that one. He uses the word sommelier himself. -Js06 (talk) 12:10, 1 January 2015 (CST) ::After some further research it turns out "sommelier" is probably OK to use as a description of Toori's interests, although IMHO it is a less familiar term than "connoisseur" which I think works better anyway (a sommelier is a trained professional while a connoisseur is an amateur enthusiast). But if that's the actual word he's using then I suppose we should use it too. --Txtracer (talk) 00:45, 2 January 2015 (CST) :::...and then I see he actually used "connoisseur" in Volume 3(A) Chapter 17. Wah! Consistency is the hobgoblin of lesser minds and editors... --Txtracer (talk) 01:02, 2 January 2015 (CST) == Mito-tsan == Another thing I've noticed is the use of -tsan instead of -san with Mitotsudaira in the short version of her name. I've been taking the t off because I'm not familiar with that usage, but is -tsan actually correct? If so, I'll put it back. :-tsan is one of the cutesy non-standard honorifics Naito tends to use. -Js06 (talk) 12:10, 1 January 2015 (CST) ::ok, I should leave it alone then. I'll revert those. --Txtracer (talk) 00:38, 2 January 2015 (CST) == Song of Passage == I found it weird that for the rest of his series the author uses existing songs as a background theme (like Silent Night or the US hymn), but for this one instead wrote a new one... or so it seemed. By chance, I found that the Song of Passage is a variation the nursery rhyme of a children game very similar to London Bridge is falling down (that is, two children hold each other's hands up and the rest of players pass through the arch while the song is sung, at the end of which the arch is lowered;kids that get trapped by the arms, lose), and its tune is used for the japanese "blind-alerting" traffic lights (that is, traffic lights with a speaker that emit sounds when it becomes green for people). The full lyrics of the original song, plus translation: {| class="wikitable" |- ! Toryanse !! Tooshidouka (Song of Passage) |- | Toryanse, toryanse.
Koko wa doko no hosomichi ja?
Tenjin-sama no hosomichi ja.
Chitto toshite kudashanse.
Goyo no nai mono toshasenu.
Kono ko no nanatsu no oiwai ni
Ofuda wo osame ni mairimasu.
Iki wa yoi yoi, kaeri wa kowai.
Kowai nagara mo
Toryanse, toryanse. || Toorimase toorimase
Ikaba izuko ga hosomichi nareba
Tenjin moto he to itaru hosomichi
Goiken gomuyou toorenu totemo

Kono ko no too no oiwai ni
Ryou no ofuda wo osame ni sanzu
Iki wa yoi nagi kaeri wa kowaki
Wa ga naka kowaki no tooshi kana

|- | Let me pass, let me pass.
What is this narrow pathway here?
This is the narrow pathway of Tenjin Shrine.
Please allow me to go through.
Those without good reason shall not pass.
To celebrate this child's seventh birthday
I've come to make the offering of this talisman.
Going in is fine, fine, but returning will be scary.
It's scary, but
Let me pass, let me pass. || Let us pass, let us pass
Where does this narrow path lead?
This is the narrow pathway to the gods in heaven
Your thoughts do not matter; you cannot pass

To celebrate this childโs tenth birthday
I must make an offering with these talismans
Going in may be pleasant, but returning is scary
Can I pass despite my fears?

|} The author clearly made the changes to depict the distortions that happen when reenacting history, but it's interesting to know from where things come.--Kemm (talk) == Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon XXI == Does anyone know what the issue is with the XXI OVA? They plain skipped from the end of the second season to about the current point in the novels (i.e. farther than we have read, ergo spoilers) and somehow the premise reminds me of some game-like plot (?). I ask here because trying to find about it on my own rendered nothing but quite the big spoiler from 10-C. --Kemm (talk) == The Timeline's looking pretty good ( to those still following ) == https://files.catbox.moe/due1ry.PNG I believe someone's working on clean looking epubs for the latest translated volumes, and for everything else too...it won't be too long till everything is translated (It might not be index speed, but it's something) On another note, is there a reason for the absence of NEXT BOX HDD ( the behind-the-scenes after volumes ) and Girls talk 4? are they not part of the grand plan? :No idea. As a side note, someone did integrate Js06's translation of CITY's SF into the illustrations (I have yet to check the quality, though). I do wonder where exactly did they find the raws, though, as my numerous searches with different engines only resulted in dodgy offers to sell the original paper book, as well as the (closed since forever) original site to buy it (Satoyasu's personal website), and in my experience I tend to find things other people give up as a lost cause...--Kemm (talk) Didn't Satoyasu simply move from http://www.tenkystore.com/ to https://www.tenky.co.jp/? Clicking some stuff takes me to dengekibunko.jp, where I assume I'll find the exclusively digital CITY-SF volume. Though Of course, what with Kadokawa and hackers, the site yet persists in its remaining down* (see: *The site you are trying to access is currently undergoing emergency maintenance.) Fortunate for everything else, you can get them instantly on bookwalker... Ah, also, I just remembered something...When Kawakami had a somewhat large following, in that particular channel of that particular image board, a user by the name 'Crytos Pop Heart Von Poppy Popsly Et a Lionsdown' ( I use his name on an online battle simulator I frequent, hence why I remember it ) regularly uploaded all manner of Kawakami novels, short and long alike. I think its all been archived 'there', so feel free to check it out. Alternatively, the Kadokawa website shut down will likely last little more than a few more months, then CITY SFs availability will come. :As far as I know, SF wasn't a digital exclusive, but a digital-order-exclusive physical doujinshi. The only links to Dengeki Bunko come from the showcased books (On a Godless Planet and Horizon NEXT BOX). Neither SF nor Tokyo were released via Kadokawa, but as doujinshi (I believe at least Tokyo was sold during a Comiket or something, while SF, as far as I'm aware but I may be wrong, could only be purchased from Tenky Store, but both had a limited print run). Proof of their status as doujinshi is the fact that the covers show a distinctive lack of Dengeki Bunko's seal. You won't find them at any official publisher's page nor any regular bookstore. Heck, I even followed VIRTUALCITY-Ex.'s (the name for Tenky at Pixiv) rabbithole until Melonbook's list of Kawakami's works (and Meloonbook sells even pretty old doujinshi), but nothing. As I said, the only sources are found are dodgy resellings that are quite overpriced. --Kemm (talk) == The ultimate end == >The bonus novel for the "Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere" anime Blu-ray is now available in a fun and lively "icon talk format"! Kimitoasamade has now been (re)unleashed, in all its glory, and with a much more polished presentation, all extra content inclusive. With this, I believe all Horizon related content has truly been exhausted...onwards to dungeons and elves now ( godless hasn't been updated in 2 years ;_; ( but at least this way js06 can catch up. There's just that 1 volume after all) ) Feel free to check on the old group. Bookwalker allows for a nice preview. https://bookwalker.jp/series/236335/list/ (I'm hoping someone adds all this (Everything now in Next box HDDD) into the main page ) (Also good to know the translations are in the final stretch now ( (for the main series ) 10 & 11 ) On a totally unrelated note, I also hope someone tosses in a page for his romcom short stories, when all is said and done. --Passi
