Editing Talk:Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei:Volume 1 Chapter 1

If you are quoting mutliple lines of dialogue being said by the same person, the standard accepted method is to start each line with a quotation mark but to leave off the closing quote on the previous line.  For example:

"Here I am talking about something.

"Then I continue talking about somethng else."

That's just how things are supposed to be done in English.  You'll find the same in any style guide.  But this chapter is completely filled with violations of this rule.  I find that it makes it difficult to read.

I think the translator is trying to keep the dialogue in the same line format as the Japanese original.  Your grammar note is correct.  But rather than punctuating them as multi-paragraph quotes, it'd probably be better to combine the lines into proper English paragraphs where appropriate.

If you find it problematic to read this text, and if you can read the originals or Chinese translated text, please read them instead. They might be a lot less painful to read. If you seriously want to improve the style, you should make a suggestion post in the forum, gather feedback. If many readers and staff are receptive to your suggestion, find a dedicated editor/proofer for this series (or become one yourself) and start to do the grunt work of making it better.
