Just a bit of a heads up about editing High school DxD. In the guidelines it says "All edited translations are to be in British English." Just wanted to inform you after i saw some of your edits were using American English spelling, eg. defense vs defence --Ff7 freak 02:19, 2 June 2012 (CDT) Sorry about this Dan, but I'm going to have revert your tense changes. Character narration should be present tense, not past. Can I ask you go back and keep the narrative in present from now on? --Hiro Hayase 21:19, 3 June 2012 (CDT) Ok. Sorry about that. I'll look over all the chapters I edited and fix them. Thanks for telling me. --Dan1023 22:56, June 3, 2012 Okay thanks, but unfortunately I had to revert your other changes too when I initiated the rollback action. Your other changes beside the tense changes were correct for the most part, if possible can you make them again? --Hiro Hayase 22:18, 3 June 2012 (CDT) Sure, that's fine. By the way is it okay if every once in a while if one word is in past tense because there have been 2 or 3 situations where the sentences have sounded weird in present tense. Other than that I'll put all the narrative in present tense. --Dan1023 23:52, June 3, 2012 Sure, but it's going to depend on the circumstances. The narrative just need to be in present tense for the most part, it can have some past tenses. --Hiro Hayase 23:47, 3 June 2012 (CDT) Thanks. Is there a way I can make leave a marker or make a note to show if I need someone to double check a part of my editing? Or is there a place I can post a section of an edit to be looked at by other editors before updating the official translation?--Dan1023 01:03, June 4, 2012 Umm... the High School DxD main forum I guess. Just post your edited parts and where its from, then hopefully someone will check it there. You can post parts that your unsure of how to fix or confusing typos there as well. The forum link is on the DxD main page. For the forum it might be better to create an account there.--Hiro Hayase 00:08, 4 June 2012 (CDT) Ok. Thanks. Also when you did the rollback on my edits, was it only on my Volume 12 Life -1 edits or all of my edits? --Dan1023 01:10, June 4, 2012 Just Volume 12 Life.-1 for now.--Hiro Hayase 00:59, 4 June 2012 (CDT) Ok. I'll fix the rest of my edits later today --Dan1023 10:47, June 4, 2012 Why exactly are you changing High School DxD vol 11 Life 1 to present tense? Original uses past tense... --User:Sinsi 23:34 4 June 2012 Ohh, I didn't know that. I was asked to change anything I edited to present tense because on the "High School DxD: Names and Terminology Guidelines" page it says to edit narratives to be in present tense. I had changed a lot of it to past tense yesterday so I was undoing my changes and changing the rest. I'm sorry if i'm wrong. Should I change the tense back? If so i'll doing manually because I made a few other changes other than changing the tense of words. --Dan1023 16:16, June 4, 2012 No, its fine. Code-Zero confirmed the change to present tense for the narrative. You can use past tense, if the narrator is talking about a flashback or an event in the past. --Hiro Hayase 15:45, 4 June 2012 (CDT) Ok. Thanks again. Should I continue changing my edits to present tense when necessary or leave them in past tense? --Dan1023 17:25, June 4, 2012 For now just be on standby for a bit, I still need to finish updating terminology and defining the boundaries between present and past tense after consulting with some more experienced people. --Hiro Hayase 16:47, 4 June 2012 (CDT) Don't really know who changed it, but first edition by Code-Zero used past tense. Imho, at this stage of editing we shouldn't even touch such aspects as future/present/past, leaving it all in the originally translated state and only fixing situations that are grammatically/lexically incorrect or awkward. There are hundreds of places that need much more urgent editing (just volume 4 alone has more than 291 places that desperately need editing) --User:Sinsi 10:16 5 June 2012 > Hi. Just wanted to tell you that in Volume 11 Life 1, the reading remains in past tense even if some of the words are in present tense. It doesn't read correctly unless some words are in present tense. I'm going to change back those words, but I won't change anything else. Also there is still a mix between present and past tense in your edit. Do you want me to change it all to past tense? Look at the first edition by Code-Zero to see the correct one, it is the translator's privilege to decide on those things(that part of the Guidelines is for them, not for the editors!). Editors should only change tenses if they are grammatically/lexically incorrect or awkward. Any mass change at the very least requires extensive original text verification. --User:Sinsi 23:50 8 June 2012 That answers the first question but it doesn't explain the edits. Using Volume 11 Life 1 as an example there is two or three narrative sections in past tense but the fourth will be in present tense. Following that it will change back to past tense for a while and then change to present tense again. Each section, such as their Life number in High School DxD, should use a single tense except for a few possible exceptions, but Volume 11 uses both which makes it read awkwardly. You told me that the actual novel of High School DxD Volume 11 reads in past tense. That is why I was asking if I should change the tense of those that make it read awkward? Dan1023 16:22, June 8, 2012 Updated the tenses on terminology page, and that decision is final. That part of the guideline is for the editors and translators to maintain consistency. Japanese grammar is not the same as English grammar, there is no future tense in Japanese, but we still need to use it every now and then in the translations. Thus, modifications are required either way to make it more readable. You can also just message me through the forums since it's easier to respond that way and its more private. I have the same name there as well.--Hiro Hayase 20:27, 16 June 2012 (CDT)
