Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria (空ろの箱と零のマリア) is a light novel series written by Eiji Mikage and illustrated by Tetsuo (formerly known as 415).
==Story Synopsis==

Kazuki Hoshino values his everyday life above all else. He spends the days carefree with his friends at school, until the uneventful bliss suddenly comes to a halt with the transfer of the aloof beauty Aya Otonashi into his class and her cold, dramatic statement to him immediately upon arrival:

==Story Synopsis==
"I'm here to break you. This is my 13,118th school transfer, and even I can't help but reach the end of my tether after so many iterations. So for a change of pace, I'll declare war this time."
''Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria,'' or ''The Empty Boxes and The Zeroth Maria,'' tells the sinister story of Kazuki Hoshino, who is almost madly attached to his everyday life, and his antagonist Aya Otonashi, who suddenly transfers into his class—for the 13,118th time. She majestically announces to “break” him, without paying heed to anyone else around them.

This is but the start of a dark roller coaster ride that turns the two  against themselves, the people around them and the one who may be god. Read on as their relationship slowly changes and they go against their most basic values in their struggle against the world itself.
And with those puzzling words, the ordinary days that Kazuki loved so dearly become a cycle of turmoil and fear—Aya's sudden appearance signals the unraveling of unseen mysteries surrounding Kazuki's seemingly normal friends, including the discovery of mysterious devices known as "boxes."

An antisocial beauty <!--EEE: "unsociable" isn't ideal - "antisocial" is one option (pros: commonly used, captures most of the intended meaning, flows well; cons: Maria's behavior isn't precisely antisocial, several _connotations_ of "antisocial" are completely inappropriate). "poorly socialized" excludes some of the wrong connotations for "antisocial", but also has some cons (less common usage, flows worse; new problems w/certain connotations of the word). "asocial" probably is most accurate, though prob not best wrt flow either (of the items under consideration, anyway). It's a real word http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asociality but it's definitely less commonly used and more technical in nature. Also, feel free to choose some of the more liberal possibilities: "standoffish, reserved, remote"...-grrarr--><!--EEE: tl;dr: rephrase to something like "a remote/antisocial/poorly socialized beauty with a resolute personality" ..? -grrarr--> with a resolute personality.
