On a Godless Planet:Volume3B Afterword
Afterword
“Okay, great work, everyone!”
“But I didn’t doooo anythiiiing.”
“The world would have to be ending for you to do something, so I say that’s for the best.”
“Anyway, I’ve learned several lessons. Socialization sure is hard.”
“Then let’s go to the arcade! That’s one way to socialize!”
“Goofing off is all you ever think about…”
“Oh, but the arcade does sound fun. We Norse gods love having fun, so I vote for that.”
“I like the crane that can grab snacks and that one with the moving panels you knock stuff off of!”
“But what kind of games will we play?”
“We could play air hockey. We can do doubles, which really helps get you fired up.”
“Um, yes! I’ll join you as a fellow Sumeragi-kun fan!”
“I think I’ll team up with either Anne-chan or En-chan.”
“Can you even…see the hockey puck?”
“You just get used to your boobs blind spot!”
“That’s my Senpai! Everyone playing will have a straight down blind spot! How wonderful!”
“Eh? I’m playing? W-well…I do appreciate…being invited.”
“When we went to the Daiichi Department Store’s arcade before, they had Return of Ishtar and I was like ‘so this is it, huh?’, but wouldn’t it be weirdly recursive for us to play that?”
“Yes, that recently caught my attention too. How many games use me as the protagonist?”
“If we don’t limit it to games and accept simple motifs, it has to be near limitless. And speaking of games, the Super Famicom comes out this November, meaning what’s commonly known as the Big Three will all be on sale. That will broaden what games are available in several ways.”
“With the increased expressive power of game consoles, the game worlds can show off a lot more different cultures.”
“With the limited memory and small bit depth of the images, they could make the different lands look different, but designing the cultures and residents to look different was a challenge. So lowering that hurdle to creativity is a good thing. Some of the ‘flavor’ will be lost, but the ability to directly ‘feel’ the game world really makes this era seem like a new beginning.”
“Meanwhile, Japanese fantasy games get really chaotic. Especially with the gear being taken from all sorts of mythologies.”
“That can’t be easy for the knowledge gods. Could they write the games off as a business expense?”
“I honestly have no idea what any of you are talking about.”
“Well, anyway. The work background music this time was JUN SKY WALKER(S)’s Ashita ga Konakutemo. It’s a bit of a surprise, but when you listen carefully to the lyrics, it’s about accepting everything that has happened while eliminating your anxieties about the future. It’s a reassuring song.”
“This time, we will ask ‘what best represented the dream?’ Up next will be the terraforming and the end of summer break. Please continue to follow along.”
2022. A morning of returning cold weather.
“♪Absurrrrrd♪”
In an instant, ten Uranus planets appear. They duplicate endlessly and all ten of them head straight toward the nearby settlement, something that should be impossible. Everyone panics, and some even accept their fate.
< You are insane. >
The AI erases all the Uranus planets with its power. The panicking citizens are stunned for a moment before cheering in relief and joy.
< I told you not to aim at the settlement, and since when could you summon Uranus, and ten of them at that! >
“I do not care about them, humans, animals, or any other living beings. I will use my power on anyone even if they are innocent. I can summon many Uranus planets because of what happened yesterday. I had the idea of using Uranus as one of my attacks~”
“First, I stole Uranus from the solar system. I used my teleportation ability to instantly move the planet here.”
< So you actually took Uranus directly. >
“After stealing it, I duplicated Uranus into many copies. I can duplicate anything into an unlimited amount perfectly. I can even modify them, such as increasing their mass or raising their temperature, and much more.”
< I understand now, but that is not our purpose. Are you out of your mind? How can you not care about other beings! >
< What about robots? They should not be a threat. They are simply machines built to serve humans. They have no mind, no emotions, not even a brain. >
“Robots can replace humans, so I do not like them~”
“Anyway, maybe I will use my power only in the Virtual Realm.”
< That is fine if it is there. >
“Thank you, AI~”
The AI immediately teleports Shinsei to the Virtual Realm.
