Afterword

“So anyway, it’s afterword time.”

“What are we supposed to say here exactly?”

“We generally have a character discussion since that was popular in this kind of novel in the 80s and 90s. That aside, it was thanks to both parts of Crafting needing an additional printing that we could go ahead with this one. Thanks so much.”

“Who’s talking through her there?”

“This was meant to be a nostalgic sort of afterword, but based on the responses it got, it feels like this kind of afterward wasn’t actually all that common back then. It’s not a perfect survey, but it seems like it was only popular with with a few major titles from certain labels and most afterwords were more serious.”

“From what I have seen, female authors wrote essay-style afterwards and male authors wrote “big brother”-style afterwords at the time. But that’s just the impression I got.”

“What was Dengeki Bunko like?”

<Dengeki Bunko began in 1993, so that comes a little later, idiot.>

“I just realized I came off looking pretty bad in this book!”

“Oh? Are we back to doing the character discussion?”

“You’re named Athena and you got a red micro-bikini illustration. I say you got treated pretty well. Some characters were mentioned wearing swimsuits but never got an illustration of it.”

“That’s only because I had already appeared in a towel.”

“Shut up.”

“Anyway, I know there’s an Athena in Saint Seiya, but did she appear in the 90s?”

“”Right now, the Hades arc is approaching its climax. Gemini Kanon’s bro-ness is so cool.”

“Isn’t that the manga where Cancer and Pisces have no rights at school? I’m a Gemini, so it works out fine for me at least.”

“Wait, but I’m a Cancer! And crabs are delicious!”

“Senpai-san, I don’t think that’s what you want to be known for.”

“Man, I’m glad I’m an Aquarius. Anyway, someone find a way to defend Senpai!”

<Speaking of 90s Shounen Jump, that’s when Hana no Keiji, Slam Dunk, and Yu Yu Hakusho started, so it was going strong. I also remember Chinyuki being this year.>

“Hm, I think there’s a bunch of magazines piled up in the clubroom.”

“I read them while waiting for my turn with the games and I still can’t believe paper books are mass-produced in this age.”

“The work background music this time was Hirasawa Susumu’s Frozen Beach. The song has a real surging feel to it, but the lyrics are full of rhymes and really great word choices.”

“The question ‘who was the best mom?’ should link most directly to this story. Next time, we might be finally conquering the lava sea. Wait just a bit for that.”

2020. A pollen-filled morning.

Planet Assignment 1

< I sent the god to take care of a planet, a messed-up planet with lots of killing and war going on. >

“Did that god manage to take care of it?”

< I don’t know, I just sent him like 30 seconds ago, he should be arriving on the a planet soon. The god I sent isn’t normal, just his presence gives off this aura that makes humans terrified, like they can’t even move. They just freeze in place from the overwhelming fear. >

I opened a virtual camera window showing the god arriving on the planet, then I zoomed it in to get a better look at him.

Suddenly, an aura burst out from that god’s body and spread in all directions. Just 0.1 seconds later, it covered the entire planet. The planet instantly went dark because of it. Every living thing there dropped and started screaming hysterically, completely unable to move. They all collapsed and were scattered everywhere.

Humans and animals lay there lifeless, everything on that planet died just from feeling the pressure of that god’s presence. Even rocks, buildings, robots that shouldn’t feel fear, basically anything that was never alive in the first place, somehow felt an overwhelming fear too. It doesn’t make any sense, it should be impossible, but that god really has a different kind of existence, not like other gods.

"How is it even possible that the effect of that god’s presence can make things that were never alive in the first place feel fear?"

< I mean, it’s possible, clearly. He can make even rocks, buildings, robots, basically anything that’s never been alive, feel fear. >

< Since the mission to save the planet is already finished, I’ll allow Shinsei to return to the virtual realm. That planet is already dead, both on the outside and the inside. I hope all life within that planet is gone, nothing survives. Even things that never had life from the beginning felt fear. They were all screaming in terror, as if being tortured. >

< Thanks, Shinsei. >

"Hey, are you messing with me? I didn’t even do anything, and since when did I successfully take care of this planet? I haven’t even used my power yet."

< You don’t even need to use your power, that planet can’t even withstand the pressure of your aura. >

Virtual Realm Part 1

"Hey AI, what is Divine Rank?"

< You dumb ape, I’ve explained this over and over already. >

"I forgot, hehehe."

< Divine Rank is a level that shows how well someone can control ether. The levels go from World, Space, Heaven, Planet, Realm, Region, Country, Metropolis, City, Town, Village, House, Room, Hidden, and Empty. If someone dies, they’ll end up at the Empty level (0). >

"What’s the difference between them?"

< At the Empty level, someone becomes a unique being like a spirit, and they can still manipulate ether even at that level. >

"Can someone’s Divine Rank affect other people?"

< Of course. For example, if you meet senpai, your physical strength, ether power, and authority will all get passively reduced. Your power will keep dropping until it becomes completely ineffective. >

"I’m gonna try it out on senpai!"

Boku runs toward senpai while shouting.

"Senpai! The AI said my power will get passively reduced if I’m near you!"

"That’s been the case for a long time. Didn’t you try attacking me before and fail?"

"Yeah, but I wanna make sure one more time."

"Go ahead."

Boku punches senpai with his bare hands, follows it up with an ether attack, and finishes with an authority attack that can instantly kill someone.

"See? I’m totally fine, right?"

"The AI was right!"

"Our Divine Ranks are different. You’re at the Hidden level, while I’m above Hidden. So attacks from lower levels won’t affect me."

Planet Assignment 2

< I received a vision of the future. >

"Is it bad news or good news?"

< Planet Uranus will crash into another planet in 5 minutes. >

"That’s very dangerous, quick, save the planet!"

< I don’t need to intervene for something like this. There are many gods who can handle it. >

"You’re so lazy, AI!"

< I’m not lazy. This isn’t a big problem for me. >

"Then hurry and order a god to handle it! Just send senpai, shinsei, or any god from any mythology!"

< I will send Shinsei to handle this. >

AI summons Shinsei.

"What is it?"

< Rather than you being bored because you can’t find a worthy opponent, I’ll send you to save another planet. >

"Can the planet withstand my presence?"

< You won’t go to the planet. You just need to stop Uranus from crashing into another planet, and then return Uranus to its solar system. >

"Interesting~"

AI sends Shinsei to the location. After that, AI opens a virtual window showing Shinsei.

"Shinsei has very great power, right?"

< He has a very high Divine Rank, so I think he’s suitable for this rescue mission. >

As Uranus gets closer, Shinsei raises both of his hands to stop it from colliding with the other planet. The moment Uranus touches his hands, it's creates an enormous vibration and a thunderous sound. Shinsei continues holding Uranus with both hands, his face showing no sign of difficulty at all.

"Truly amazing."

Shinsei successfully stops Uranus and prevents the destruction of the other planet.

< Now return Uranus to the solar system. >

"This is my favorite part."

"♪Absurrrrrd♪"

In an instant, the planet Uranus returned to its original position in the solar system.

< Mission complete >

"Shinsei always says that word. Is it some kind of requirement to activate his power?"

< Correct. Shinsei only needs 0.1 seconds to say that word. He can even say it in his mind if he doesn’t want to reveal his strategy during battle >

"Hey, why are you talking about me?"

"When did you get here, Shinsei?!"

"I just arrived. Now I want to relax. That rescue earlier was quite satisfying~"
