Afterword[edit]

Thank you for picking up BlazBlue: Phase Shift 4. I am the author, Komao Mako.

This work is a novelization of Arc System Works Co., Ltd.'s 2D fighting game series, BlazBlue. This novelization lifts the curtain on the events that happened 100 years before the story of the games. The games have dense, rich, charming stories of their own that are well worth the read, so please go play them as well if you haven't already! Seriously, please do!

Now then... I will proceed with my afterword.

It's over... The Dark War is finally over... This book marks the end of this series chronicling the Dark War period of the BlazBlue franchise.

Man... that was so moving. The Six Heroes were quite the beloved group already, but I'm so glad that so many people grew attached to the characters debuting in these novels. Celica, in particular. Thank you all so much for your loving words about her.

She is... a mysterious sort of character for me. I often got this vibe like she's ready to dash forward like a tube of fabric unfurling and leave me standing there dumbstruck. Her concept is someone who is always looking straight ahead and moving at full speed. Part of me admires her for being that way and wants to be like that too, so when I wrote her, she inevitably ended up being a real good, friendly girl. I'm kind of bummed that I probably won't get to write her in a novel anymore... but it looks like fate still has a little more in store for her.

Finally, some words of thanks. To my editor, I'm so sorry for constantly asking you to adjust the schedule and giving you so many headaches from start to finish. Thank you very much.

From the bottom of my heart, I give my thanks to Katou-san, who did all the illustrations. The joy I felt at seeing how fast you made the model sheets for the new characters for me is still engraved into my heart.

To Mori the Producer, I thank you once again for your reassuring support. The absolute best outcome for me would be if this novel series is something that you can enjoy, too, Mori-san.

To you readers, both of this book and of the whole series: thank you so very much. We were only able to come this far because of your support.

Has this become one more ingredient that further deepens your enjoyment of your BlazBlue franchise? I hope so.

And with that, I hope we meet again in BlazBlue in some other way. Until then, I hope you have a fun life of gaming!

Komao Mako

“Congratulations on finishing the 5th BlazBlue volume! Congratulations on finishing the whole series!! I’m Katou, the one in charge of the illustrations. We’ve finally completed the Dark War chronicle! If you want to remember what happens right after this, please go back and play Calamity Trigger again. We’re right in the middle of our last stretch for the new work, Chronophantasma, so everything feels like it's exploding around me, though. Thank you for all your hard work, Komao-sama, our editor, and MoriP. My thanks to all of you readers who have read all the way to the end. That’s a wrap for Phase Shift.”

“Good day, everyone, I’m Mori from Arc System Works. My thanks to all of our readers: the Dark War has come to a close. Many thanks to Komao-sensei, Katou-san, and everyone else who was involved in the process as well. I still kinda get the feeling that I was the one who was the most hyped about the Phase Shift series though? Changing the subject, though, what does fate have in store for Celica? I hope everyone is looking forward to finding out.
