High School DxD: Names and Terminology Guidelines

This page is a list of unique/semi-unique terms and names for translators and editors to maintain consistency with. Format Standard

Narrative Tenses

Editors can use whatever tense is necessary.

Japanese Honorifics

Since there are no equivalents to Japanese honorifics in the English language, Japanese honorifics will be kept.

Japanese Loanwords

There are some words in the Japanese language that do not translate into the English language, for such instances it is recommended to keep the Japanese loanword. For example, Torii.

Genshirou Saji(匙 元士郎)- Student Council Secretary. Possesses one of Vritra's Sacred Gears. Souna's Pawn.

Tsubaki Shinra(真羅 椿姫)- Student Council Vice President. Souna's Queen.

Humans

Matsuda(松田)- One of Ise's best friends that makeup the perverted trio. Stated to be a lolicon.

Motohama(元浜)- One of Ise's best friends that makeup the perverted trio. Has the ability to calculate a female's BWH sizes just by looking.

Aika Kiriryu(桐生 藍華)- Asia's friend. Has the ability to calculate a male's "manhood" size just by looking.

Devils

Raiser Phenex - Rias' first opponent in a rating game and her ex-fiancé.

Ravel Phenex - Raizer's sister.

Grayfia - Maid of Gremory, Sirzerch's queen and also his wife.

Sairaorg - Rias' cousin and the next heir of the Baal house.

Four Great Maou

Sirzechs Lucifer(サーゼクス・ルシファー)- Originally from the House of Gremory. Rias' older brother.

Serafall Leviathan(セラフォルー・レヴィアタン)- Originally from the House of Sitri. Souna's older sister.

Ajuka Beelzebub(アジュカ・ベルゼブブ)- Originally from the House of Astratoth.

Falbium Asmodeus(ファルビウム・アスモデウス): Originally from the House of Glasya-Labolas.

Fallen-Angels

Azazel (アザゼル, Azazeru)- The Leader of the Fallen-Angels and has 12 Black Wings. The Hell Teacher in Kuou Academy.

Reynalle - Disguises herself as Yuma-chan and later killed Issei at the end of their date.

Kokabiel - One of the leaders of the fallen angels and Grigori, later gets sealed in hell after the incident with the holy sword Excalibur.

Shemhaza - One of the leaders of the fallen angels and Grigori, Azazel's right hand.

Barakiel- One of the leaders of the fallen angels and Gregori. A friend of Azazel's and Akeno's father.

Balba Galilei - Exiled from the Church for conducting human experiments in order to find people compatible with holy swords.

Freed Zelzan - An exiled exorcist that initially sided with the Fallen-Angels and later joins the Chaos Brigade.

Slash Dog - Possesses the Sacred Gear "Canys Lykaon" and works for the fallen angels.

Michael - Leader of the angels.

Dulio - Reincarnated as an angel. A former exorcist and has the position of a "joker". Known to be the strongest exorcist ever and possesses the second strongest Longinus "Zenith Tempest".

Vali Lucifer(ヴァーリ・ルシファー)- Descendant of Lucifer and possessor of the Vanishing Dragon Albion.

Bikou(美猴)- Descendant of Son Goku.

Kuroka(黒歌)- Koneko's older sister. A nekomata who is now an exiled devil.

Arthur Pendragon(アーサー・ペンドラゴン)- Descendant of King Arthur.

Le Fay Pendragon(ルフェイ・ペンドラゴン)- Arthur's sister.

Fenrir(フェンリル)- Loki's pet who is said to have enough power to kill God.

Tanninim - Reincarnated as a devil and is said to have power rivaling that of a Maou's.

Terminology

Rating Games - Games played between devils who have gained a peerage. The game takes the form of a strategic battle between the king and his/her pieces. Only matured devils are allowed to participate in official rating games. Participants are placed into four categories: Power, Technique, Wizard, Support.

Evil Pieces - Based on the game chess, a total of fifteen pieces (1 queen, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 2 rooks and 8 pawns) are given to top-class devils with a peerage. These pieces are used to reincarnate other beings into devils and become servants of the top-class devil. Created by Ajuka Beelzebub to replenish the number of devils after the war. Each piece has a corresponding value. These values are used to determine which piece may be used to reincarnate a someone, their strengths, talents or skills play a role in determining their value. Different evil pieces cannot be used together. Evil pieces can also be exchanged between Top-class devils with peerage.

Queen - Worth 9 Pawns. Traits of Queens have all the characteristics of Rooks, Knights, and Bishops.

Rook - Worth 5 Pawns. Traits of Rooks is immense strength and defense.

Knight - Worth 3 Pawns. Traits of Knights is speed and mobility.

Bishop - Worth 3 Pawns. Traits of Bishops is enhanced magical abilities.

Pawn - Worth 1 Pawn. Traits of Pawns is the ability to promote into a Queen, Rook, Knight, or Bishop in enemy territory.

Mutation pieces - If reviving a person requires 8 Pawns, then using 1 mutation piece would suffice to revive that person instead of using 8 evil Pawn pieces. Mutation pieces can be a Queen, Rook, Knight, or Pawn. They are said to be very rare.

Saint Cards - Used by the Angels to resurrect other beings into angels to increase their numbers. The Saint cards are based off of the evil piece system of the devils, the cards are composed of 12 cards that represent the 12 apostles. Only people with a "pure heart" can become an angel.

Joker Cards - Similar to mutation pieces.

Sacred Gear - Special items created by the original God that certain people are born with. Sacred Gears carry different effects ranging from healing to battle related effects, a Sacred Gear may only have one effect. It is said that many people who are recorded in history were possessors of a Sacred Gear. Only humans or half-humans may be born with a Sacred Gear.

Balance-Breaker - The evolved form of the Sacred Gear. The feelings of the possessor trigger this evolution.

Juggernaut Drive - It is a special ability of Sacred Gears with beings sealed inside them.

Sen-jutsu - It is the power to control the flow of life. By controlling the flow of ki/life force/chakra, a person can strengthen physical bodies or cause vegetation around you to bloom or to wither. Knowing Sen-jutsu allows the reading of ki and auras and to spy on the target's state from afar. Disrupting the opponent's ki or severing it can cause direct damage to living things. There very few ways to defend against Sen-jutsu.

You-jutsu - Similar to using illusions.

Touki - A type of energy a person obtains by training their body to the uttermost limits.

Holy Swords - (Caliburn, Excalibur, Durrandal, Ascalon) A small scratch from a holy sword is enough to cause lethal damage to devils and fallen angel alike. Only a select few have the capability to wield a holy sword.

Longinus - Are the ultimate Sacred Gears and they have more than one ability compared to a normal Sacred Gear which only has one. There are 13 Longinus in total.

True-Longinus - The first and ultimate Longinus, takes the form of a spear. It was the spear used to kill Jesus Christ. A single stab by it can kill and vaporize a Top-class devil instantly.
